There is a category for streaming? But this is not a revenue maker, right? People are streaming it and will buy it if they like it enough? Or do people with computer “skills” download it for free? Sorry if my questions sound dumb :(

  • leome

When is Carrie’s single going on Itunes? That song is flying on radio!

There is a category for streaming? But this is not a revenue maker, right?

I’m not sure. Youtube pays a small royalty for songs played, but it doesn’t report streaming. I seem to recall streaming results are for AOL and somebody else. One of the radio networks? Clearnet?

People are streaming it and will buy it if they like it enough? Or do people with computer ‘skills’ download it for free?

It’s not monitoring the illegal downloads. It’s the on demand stuff where you listen to it (but don’t download it) at official sites. There are actually metrics for illegal downloads though (I think they tag the files or something).

Anyway, the deal with streaming is that it is used as one of the factors in calculating the Hot 100 (5% for streaming, 55% for airplay and 40% for sales). The idea is that the Hot 100 is supposed to track the most popular songs in the country. If people are streaming it, it’s a sign they want to hear it and that the song is popular.

Clearly, the fan groups have figured this one out because you often see Idols on the streaming chart WAY out of proportion to how their song is doing on downloads or airplay….hmmm…(not commenting on Jordin and Daughtry here), but it’s not confined to Idols.

Amazon has the song listed as available on Sept 22nd, so that’s probably when iTunes will have it as well.

Country songs don’t do too well on iTunes (in proportion to their airplay), but they move a lot of albums.

The first page of AOL songs is full of Idol music. LOL

    Thanks.
Maybe she won’t be able to get a #1 if country songs don’t sell as much, but looks like this song will go high on Hot 100.
Could it even debut on Hot 100 before going on sale?

    Thanks Kirsten :)

Awesome numbers for the Glee songs! When I saw the preview for last week’s episode, I thought it will be Gold Digger that will sell the most but when I finally watched the episode Take A Bow performance turned out to be really, really awesome. So, I ended up buying both TAB and GD!

It looks like it affected (positively) the original versions too. It will be cool to see if they ever do an Idol-related song someday.

Streaming is reportedly AOL and Yahoo now, according to the Hot 100 watchers at Pulse. But yeah – it only gives you a few points towards the chart.

  • amiroamor

I think Cowboy Casanova will be a monster. It’s not even released on itunes yet, it’s already #17 on Country charts. Some Idols can’t even get to top 20

No numbers for Jason Castro’s new single?

  • CFIdolsfan

I was wondering, too, if there are any for Phil Stacey.
