That’s the number I’ve been waiting for! So with 41K left to go, LO is slowly (slowwwly) closing in on Platinum. I seem to remember that idea seemed far fetched at a certain point… Go (almost) Platinum Boat Anchor!

The folks from Nielsen SoundScan have been kind enough to provide totals sales for some of the albums and tracks you’ve been requesting. Since some of you have been asking for those updates for a while now, I figured I’d give them their own post today.

It seems pretty clear that the total for Elliott’s sophomore album is wrong—if he was selling that much, he’d be on the BB 200, pretty high up in the rankings. But Brian is checking into that and will likely fix it. Otherwise the numbers make sense to me.

Kelly’s numbers are a disappointment again. It’s just weird that she only sold 1000 more than DC with all of her CHR airplay.

I still vote August for next single (as if anyone’s asking me) but if DCTR can stay stable on the back of CBTM’s radioplay, all the better to prolong this era and make the most of it.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty pleasantly surprised DC went up in total sales. I was bracing myself cuz he went down quite a bit on iTunes. I guess iTunes is not a good indicator of album sales when ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s further down the iTunes rankings (anything past 50, really).

He did take a hit in his digital sales, but he’s always been strongest at the big box stores. He is stablizing, and will probably start inching back up as CBTM’s airplay rises.Go Cookie!

I thought Permanent would be a strong single, but I guess not the way it was released (and maybe it just doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t fit a radio format).

Permanent wasn’t released to radio, and was never meant to be a single. It was just a one-off performance for charity.

I think either Save You and Already Gone would be good choices for Kelly at this point. Her voice sounds great on both, and it’s time to remind people that Kelly can sing things Katy Perry never could. I liked MLWSWY, but IDNHU is blech. Already Gone seems like the more natural choice (sounds more like what’s on the radio), but I’ve seen with female pop acts that the third single is often a good time to whip out the ballad…

I’m not too terribly concerned about DCTR sales. In a week when DC was on vacation, doing absolutely zero promo, and all he had was radio play of CBTM and his two older songs, DCTR was still #63 with over 7K in sales. In this market, that’s pretty solid. Now, my guess is that, if RCA was concerned that DCTR was being hurt, they might adjust their strategy, but with CBTM still growing on his primary platform, sales of CBTM going up with airplay, sales of DCTR so far looking pretty stable, GMA coming up, and some good sized festivals as part of a good-selling tour, I’m still thinking that they’ll wait until fall.

As is often the case with DC, I’d be fine with being wrong here—if they decided that putting out another single and giving us another video sooner would be a good idea, well, I would be down with that.
