WOW! #6? And how long have Digital Albums been for sale?

From the RIAA:

New Thresholds for Digital Single Certifications – As the digital music marketplace continues to mature, we recognized a need to raise the existing sales criteria for the Digital Gold and Platinum program to meet the physical sales levels that we have recognized since the program was created in 1958. As such, effective immediately, new certification levels for the RIAA Digital Single Gold & Platinum Program will be:

Gold = 500,000
Platinum = 1,000,000
Multi-Platinum = 2,000,000 (in increments of 1,000,000)

The new certification levels for the RIAA Digital Gold & Platinum program are effective immediately. All pending requests for digital single certification will be completed under the original certification levels and then adjusted to the proper category under the new system. In the next week, all digital singles currently certified at Gold, Platinum, 2x Platinum, 3x Platinum, and 4x Platinum will be converted to Gold status. All 5x – 9x Platinum digital singles will be converted to Platinum status.

Bucky is # 85 on the Hot 100. [] However, I donÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see Jordin or Blake.

Jordin is at 72 and Blake at 59.

The following Idols are in the Hot 100 this week: Daughtry (2), Carrie (2), Kelly, Elliott, Fantasia, Blake, Jordin, Bucky and Kellie. That’s 9 Idols and 11 songs. 11% of the Hot 100 are Idols.

Tony, Elliott’s video is in rotation on VH1. I’ve seen it eight times on VH1, starting last Friday. They started playing it last Thursday. They only show videos early morning so between 3:00 AM and 10:00AM would be the times to catch it. It looks great on TV to me. He was one of three “contenders” for the VH1 Top 20 Countdown last week. The VJ said that they only needed a few more votes to make the Top 20 Countdown.

Elliott is doing great for an indie artist, but I’m certain that had he received major promo (a la Daughtry or Kelly Clarkson), he could do an easy platinum. One performance on Idol got him the largest sales increase of a returning contestant.

The only time I saw his video on TV was when it debuted on TRL. I have MTV Hits, and I hear that it’s been seen there a few times, but I only watch it occasionally. I still can’t shake that very cheap feel of the video. It looks so early 90s and really doesn’t work well with such a catchy, modern song such as “Wait For You”, IMO.

I DO, however, hear him on the radio a lot.

Thanks for posting the actual declaration. The RIAA is frustrating in it’s lack of completeness in detailing when the rules changed…or maybe I can’t figure out where to find the good stuff on their site (and gabam is correct in that the internet contains so much conflicting information on this. Linked wiki pages even disagree).

I briefly looked for a press release/news article/something to post about the change, but came up with a million pages of other stuff.
