That was a really pretty song, and I don’t think I’d ever heard it before last week. It’s nice that Kris’s performance helped get it noticed. That’s quite the increase it had LOL.

Don’t think we are going to see any downloads reflected next week from the disco song originals!

When I look at the numbers for J Hudson after her performance on Idol, it kind of puts in perspective David’s after his appearance. He sold twice the number of single downloads, and about 3 times the amount of albums. Both did amazing though, and got big boosts from idol. They are very talented and I hope both keep going strong!

I wonder about the strategy in releasing Archie’s EP now before his idol appearance. People may buy the cheaper EP rather than the full album.

never underestimate the power of those teens and tweens on itunes….. and love them or not, but disney has a lotta muscle and they sure know how to use it to promote their artists… their artists aren’t my cuppa, but i ain’t mad at ‘em :smile1_tb:

just speculating here, so be gentle, but could be the ep is akin to a stalking horse… a lure, a buzz builder to help lead people and draw their attention to the full album, and perhaps it serves to generate additional buzz for david as he begins the uk mcfly tour, and the lovato tour this summer…. we’ll see how it goes…. and plays out in the days and weeks ahead….

I think the bottom line for Jive is money in the pocket, not bragging rights over a certain billboard position or sales number for his album. David’s fans, in general, are the type to buy singles rather than albums (some of this has to do with age, and what they’ve grown up with in terms of the distribution of music). I’ve met so many that have said “yeah, I usually only buy singles–I made an exception for David.” One would think that extends to the general type of audience David tends to reach, except many didn’t make an exception for David. They stuck to their usual pattern. I, myself, am a singles downloader rather than an album buyer (I made an exception for David, and have made exceptions for others I really love).

So Jive could be thinking, ok, let’s get this money however way we can since we know what kind of buyers he usually reaches–either through people downloading just TMH (studio), or downloading the EP, or downloading the TMH (AOL Sessions version), or if we’re lucky, downloading the album. He’ll be live on Idol tonight so it’s an opportunity for people to buy HQ audio of David singing live. IMO, the AOL Sessions version of TMH is better than the studio. Regardless, though, it provides another option for people. And hey, some people might wind up buying both the album and the EP.

I also agree with ggdoorsfan–making live audio available when an artist is going on tour is a really good thing. And it might lead people to eventually splurge on the whole studio album if they liked the EP enough.

I don’t think it matters. Money is money, and they’ll probably move more of the EP because it’s cheaper. It’s not like it cost them anything to put it together, the session was already taped anyway.

There will be a rush on all things Archie on ITunes for the next few days at least, that’s for sure.

Actually… I have no idea. lol. Maybe? I haven’t seen live tracks on Billboard before (unless they’re covers, like John Mayer’s live version of “Free Fallin’”) so maybe they do combine.

Can anyone tell me where the sales numbers come from?
