Example: In all tribute, people will always said how many million albums an artist sold with how many top ten hits and not how many million singles you sold.

Single sales also do not translate into how many album sales. Most current example: Florida. He sold over 2 million single download with his latest single. But his new album only sold over 50 K in the first week.

Maybe people only wanted to hear that one song and don’t bother to buy the whole album.

The same can be said to Jordin album. She had very good singles sales but the album sales was barely passed one million after a long time.

Carrie second album singles did not sold millions in each singles that released but people still buying her albums and maybe Carnival Ride will reach 3 million.

That was a good result considering her solo album sold near 7 million.

So David Cook doing alright. But lets face it, for the past three season winners, the result of their album sales perhaps not as good as the company recording wanted.

But over one million sales still count a good result in over five months.

This topic is one of those fanwar-baiting topics and I wish we could move onto something else.

One persons opinion, is another person’s fanwar bait.

I wish two things:

1. That folks could be less sarcastic and condescending towards their fellow posters
2. That fans could handle negative criticism of their Idol with out a freak-out and a pile on.

I feel like I’ve been breaking up a lot of fights lately, and I see fault on BOTH sides.

He probably needs those album sales. It is apparent that RCA has spent a bundle promoting Cook and RCA wants its recoupment

I think as the winner he earned all of that promotion.

Collectively the songs from David Cook have sold over 2 million tracks and ringtones combined.

Of course we’ll never know what RCA needs to recoup or if they have already but IMO he’s doing fine.

I don’t get the comparisons with Brooke at all either though.

Tony, do you mind me asking you why you think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s important to have a larger amount of single sales verses a combined total of album and single sales for a song?

Financially album sales are more important for an artistà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s long term success, and I would whole heartily love to see your opinion on this.

I don’t. I just found combining the two a little disingenuous in this case. I mean, we don’t say Cook’s “Time of My Life” sold 2 million copies just because the single version and the album sold 1 million each.

As I said before, the comparison makes no sense because they are in totally different situations.

Cook’s is a third single off an album that has been out for 4 months and already sold a million copies and Brooke’s is a debut single in its debut week with no album out (which in reality should have done much much better than CBTM). Comparing the two is as farfetched as comparing CBTM’s or ALTNOY’s debut sales to those of LO and Crush respectively and concluding that the latter are better singles because they sold more on their first week. I’d say more, actually. I’m a big Brooke fan, and I think she’s still very much in AI fans’ conscious– if she had been able to get out her album in time for her AI appearance, I think for sure she could’ve sold more than that for her first week. That said, I still don’t think it makes much sense to compare that to DC. Because could you really say, oh, since Brooke sold 25K or 50K of her album after her AI performance, she’s more popular than DC? That’s silly because DC sold 280K his first week. But that comparison is ridiculous too because DC is on a major label, and got the crazy publicity of an AI winner. We could compare and qualify each statement until our hair falls out, and there’d be no clear “winner”. Haha. But it’s fun.

The only reason I brought up my point was because Brooke comparisons were being brought up at the beginning of this thread that didn’t seem valid to me. Whatever. I love Brooke and I bought her song. Love Cook also.

Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re adding album sales with single sales. That makes absolutely no sense. Do you do that with EVERYONE that performs on Idol?
