Idol Sales News – Week Ending 03/29/15

Kenrick Lamar holds the top of the chart for a second week. Other than Taylor, that hasn’t happened a lot this year. Empire Cast is parked firmly in second (though their second week drop is at the high end of the range, so reality is setting in for them). Taylor moves up to 3rd on the combined chart followed by the “Fifty Shades of Grey” soundtrack (that has spun some very successful singles) and the Brit twins (Ed and Sam). Action Branson (rapper-chef, now more rapper than chef after breaking his leg in the kitchen) cooks up the top debut of the week with 3rd on the sales falling to 7th on the combined. Drake moves up for the final chart, but was out of the top 10 in sales. Same for Maroon 5. The top 10 is rounded out by another debut from Kidz Bop with a relatively disappointing outing (they almost broke their top 10 streak and sales are half what they were in January – maybe they will do better this week in the Easter Baskets?).

One Direction’s album name turned out to be predictive this last week. “FOUR” was 36th on sales and 31st on the combined for this popular foursome. They are also on Now 53 at 16th and 25th. Kelly Clarkson is the top solo act from reality competition shows at 29th and 32nd. Fifth Harmony makes the combined chart at 37th. Chase Rice was 43rd on the Sales chart. The Nashville cast released another album and they are at 24th on sales and 26th on combined.
