Danny debuts on the Billboard 200 at number 4. He sells an impressive 65K which is higher than was predicted by HDD.

Daughtry sees an impressive 42% increase moving it within 23K of hitting platinum. Also, in platinum news, we should see Kris’s LLWD go platinum today since it had sold a total of 999K last week.

Awesome for Kris! Jive continues their tradition of being high single sellers over albums, but that’s because they get their artists radio play which reaches way beyond the crazy Idol stalker fans. Now if only they could get Allison some of the same kind of love, I’d be happy.

holy crap!!! wwfm was #3 on canadas hot 100 and fye was #3 on japans hot 100….international superstar here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Kris on going platinum with LLWD!!! Also to Danny on a great debut album. Adam’s doing very well also. Now Allison needs some luv!!!! Seriously!! It’s a pretty decent cd, but it’s true that a more delayed release might have helped her sales a lot.

Huge congrats to Kris on Platinum for LLWD! Keep pushing on. I have good feelings going for his album as well with some dynamite tour dates coming up. The more people hear him, the more fans he picks up from outside the bubble.

they mention Adam’s sales being bigger than Danny for his #3 place. They could have mentioned the same for Kris who sold 15,000 more for a #11 place…pfff Really don’t like the innuendo that Danny sold more than Kris.
Seems the author is definitly not a Kris’s fan

It always annoys me when information is incomplete and therefore leads to incorrect conclusions, so I feel your pain.

I am so happy for Danny. Congratulations for having the highest debut by a male Country artist since 1992 – Billy Ray Cyrus. Congratulations also for having the largest amount of digital albums sold by a debut country artist ever.

And Danny debuted #4 on Billboard, #3 Billboard Country. And he ended up charting at #3 for Itunes in his debut week.

Looking at the increase Daughtry had in digital sales makes me think that Amazon sale did help him out! :) But having said that, the ITUNES downloads are included that, so I think we are still looking at around 3,000 plus in Amazon sales. I think someone estimated when Adam’s digital album was on sale on Amazon, it equaled to about 3,000 downloads. Of course 3,000 out of 198,000 sold during debut week is a pretty small percentage of sales compared to 3000 out of 15,000 units sold.

This leads me to believe there are about 3,000 to 4,000 hardcore Amazon MP3 shoppers out there. :)

The money to be made overseas is not from record sales. The object of the promo is to get your name, out there. Air play is the way to reach thousand of fans. The money is in touring and corporate gigs. That is why Beyonce, Madonna and Michael Jackson made a fortune. Madonna had the highest grossing tour of any artist. RCA is doing a great job with Adam and he knows exactly how to handle his interviews, he is always in charge and controls the conversation/s with a smile. RCA is striking while the iron red hot.

Congrats to Danny, Kris and esp Adam.

From what I understand, that’s pretty much true domestically also, with some exceptions obviously where music sales hit big heights. One reason as a Danny fan, I’m very happy to see that he’s lined up with a substantial touring arrangement with Sugarland this spring and into the summer.

Congrats to Kris for going platinum with his single!

I wonder how much this has to do with impulse buying with Danny singing on AI & the album dropping?

I’m sure the high digital sales (19,000)were helped along by AI appearance; but Danny was already charting on the front page of iTunes (he peaked at #3) before the AI appearance-it just bumped him up to #1 for quite a while. I think shortages of the album (no one thought it would sell as well as it did) probably helped it sell well on ITunes also.

Gotta say I agree with Kris fans; although the RS article was comparing debut chart #’s (which was relevant because March sells much less than November), I’d be a little irritated too by the way RS framed that.

I agree totally undercooked. Its very annoying when the writer has an ulterior motive [ in this case to make Kris look bad!!]
The week Kris’s album was released [ same for when Adams was released] there were so many popular artists also releasing albums whereas when Danny released his hardly any . Therefore the only true measure was sales not ranking!!
Nothing against Danny but the way some media has scorned Kris in the US is pitiful!!
I want all the idols to do well over time – so to me first weeks sales are irrelevant.[ Kris has proved that with LLWD!]

I don’t think it’s true that an Amazon mp3 album sells around 3,000/week no matter what–it really varies, depending on the pricing, how well the sale is known among fans, how long the deal lasts, if the sale happens on an opening/holiday week, etc. Some weekly Billboard reports seem to indicate a larger boost (though we can’t know for sure until an Amazon mp3 exclusive charts on the Billboard 200 one week):

    http://tinyurl.com/yjj8kr5

The only album to bow inside the top 50 of The Billboard 200 is “The 99 Most Essential Beethoven Masterpieces” (X5 Music Group) at No. 29 with 21,000 copies. The collection sold for just $1.99 at Amazon.com’s MP3 store.

    http://tinyurl.com/yj3w5hm

and “The 99 Most Essential Mozart Masterpieces,” released at a discounted price on Amazon (X5, No. 34, 15,000).

    http://tinyurl.com/yzv3omw

Snow Patrol notches its highest charting album as “A Hundred Million Suns” (Fiction/Polydor) debuts at No. 9 with 48,000. The Scottish/Irish rock band’s previous best came with 2006′s “Eyes Open,” which peaked at No. 27 and went on to sell 1.16 million copies. Digital downloads accounted for 52% of the new set’s first week sum, no doubt aided by a $3.99 sale price via Amazon’s download store.

It’s interesting to see how the digital album sales vary for the Idols. And, of course, Carrie and Daughtry’s newest albums are selling so many more digital copies compared to the first time out.

I sure agree, RCA is doing a fabulous job in promoting Adam overseas. It’s hard to keep up with all his interviews, appearances and performances. Have you seen the UK promotion clip they are putting out, its amazing. Can’t wait to see him return on Idol, his album will get a great bounce and I’m sure the show will also in the number of viewers

thanks again for all of you who provided sources and info on Adam’s overseas numbers, it’s really interesting.

Don’t know if anyone is still posting in this thread, thought this might be interesting…

I didn’t know the European market (CD sales) is bigger on whole than the US market. The Asian market and the US market is of the same size. Seems it has also been dropping less in Europe and Asia than in the US the last years… The big countries in Europe for music is England, Germany and France.

Also found this for the Australian sales, I think they report around sunday/monday.

I don’t disagree at all that the way it was presented, didn’t paint a full picture as Kris did have more overall sales. But I think it’s not unfair to compare based on chart ranking, since different times in the market have different dynamics. To me, they should really present both figures.
Certainly true that there were more albums releasing last fall but the overall market for CDs selling was also bigger. I’m not sure you can necessarily draw conclusions as to what that means for relative sales among the top 4. (ould Danny have sold even more if his CD came out in the fall? Would Allison have done better with less competition this year, or was it better for her to ride on the media attention for Adam and Kris’s album?
No way to know really. Seems to me the top 3 guys have all done well in their different ways, considering Kris’s single sales as well as his album. Allison hasn’t yet had the same market impact. I’d like to think there, she just needs time to mature into the type of music that suits her best and that people liked most from her on the show.

Yes, agree RS article should have quoted gross sales numbers for all of them if they were going to quote some.

But disagree about the “true Measure”. Chart position is very important, there were certainly many good albums released this March also (Lady A will be the GaGa of album sales or even S. Boyle) like the very popular movie soundtrack Alice, Lifehouse, as well as hot country competition like Easton Corbin and extremely popular Blake Shelton, etc.
That is why Billboard commented on the “impressive sales”. Heck, even Perez Hilton has weighed in on the sales- I’m not going to post a link because he likes to ferment fan wars.
