It’s actually from last week, but I completely missed it so I’ve updated last week’s post. Thanks so much for finding it and posting it here! That song has some serious legs. I would not be the least surprised if that became the first Idol song to hit triple platinum.

I wonder if Chris Brown’s download numbers have suffered since the incident… he’s definitely losing radio play, fans and support.

So Annie Lennox entered the Billboard 200 at #34 with 16,000 in sales. If HDD got DC’s #33 placement correct, I guess he sold about that much. We’ll see what time Brian comes through today .

Yay Jordin for finally selling Platinum!!

I still miss Ken Barnes. I don’t much care for Brian’s commentary. Since when do young teen pop fans buy more albums than older rock fans–digital or otherwise (not counting the heavily cross-marketed TV stars, JoBros and Miley)? I’m just tired of the unnecessary and uninsightful comparisons between DA and DC’s album sales. Get over the battle of the Davids, already. If he’s aching to compare DA to any other Idol contestant, at least pick somebody far closer to his genre and fan base–Jordin.

Not to mention, as a runner up, David A doesn’t have the weekly national pimping Idol has been giving Cook for months, which means he’s getting some stellar cross marketing himself. Meanwhile, Idol is pretending the other David doesn’t exist except for two second mentions on one show.

To add on to that, the younger David’s demographic is actually more likely to pirate his music online than buy it legally. So yeah, the comparison is ridiculous and petty.

Nonetheless, DA is doing very well and actually deserves props for that and not pointless comparisons.

LOL re complaining about Brian comparing, but then lapsing into it ourselves… “pimping ‘for months’” and “pirating” by the demographic of thieves… Archie’s doing fine, last I heard he’s done iCarly, Hannah Montana, and is touring internationally! ;-P

All artists have their music illegally downloaded. It’s pointless to cite that as a factor when trying to account for sales numbers because there’s no way to know whether one artist is pirated more than another. There’s too many sources from which to obtain music illegally to ever track it. Taylor Swift has probably had a massive number of records stolen from her, but she’s stii doing all right.
