wereallinocent- It is always hard to tell where people are coming from when you read their writing on the internet(hating David or whatever). I feel I must try to defend David, even though it probably isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t necessary, so all is good. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be honest. When the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“worriesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ come from Cook fans, it seems more like they are trying to tear David down.

I just read this. First of all, I have defended Archie 15 ways til Thursday from the get go. Second, I have advocated for ALTNOY many times. So no, I'm not trying to slam Archie, even though I'm a "Cook fan". As much time I have spent arguing against that fanwar crap on here I'm a little peeved that anyone could even think I'm trying to do that kind of thing. That was seriously annoying.

wereallinnocent- I am not saying you are doing it, but if often feels that way when I have heard some people tear him down in many posts and then they suddenly act they like they care about what he is doing. It is just the way it feels to me. Not all Cook fans are like that. There are many people who follow both and many people, who, even if they don't follow both, wish them both well and see that it IS ok if they are both successful. I am in the latter camp.

I don't think this is fair at all. I am a Cook fan, but I'm not now and never have been anti-Archie, not even close. At least speaking for myself, I really want (and expect) to see him succeed. Commenting on or, for that matter, even questioning his label/management's marketing approach seems to be a legitimate topic of discussion to me, and reflects interest and concern for Archie rather than attacks.

But, ya know, I hear ya. AI can create odd sensitivities and cause us to read alot more into messages than was actually intended. Maybe we should not read the names of the posters, pretend they're all anonymous and therefore dispassionate and disinterested. LOL j/k

ETA: ealbino, good numbers! Can you please point me to a place to find Cook's? I saw his rounded, and I'd love to know his actuals too. TIA, if you see this. :-)

jpfan- I was definitely disappointed that AI didn't even mention Crush or what Kara has done with David when they introduced her. I think they are missing a major opportunity because when someone on AI is majorly successful, I think it helps the legitimacy of AI.

I am pretty sure David will be on the show at some point. I doubt if they would waste his success and talent on such an early show. I can't remember the exact dates his US tour ends or when the European tour is, but he does have some timing issues. It will be interesting.

I don't think ALTNOY is flopping. It is just moving slowly. Also, having his first single going on double platinum, and his album heading toward platinum, which I am SURE it is easily going to achieve is actually better than Jordin at this point and honestly not too far behind cook in album sales. He will get there, I am sure. (As you can see above, he is already close to 700,000)

Even though he is just getting started, he is very successful in today's market and is in so much demand and has so many events coming down the pipeline. His fans were concerned after his album came out that he might not have enough going on. But, I can't hardly keep up with all he is doing and I don't know how he does it. It is amazing for anyone, but especially an 18 year old young man.

I'm not going to add to the Archie marketing stuff. Too confusing for me.
However, I'm a little surprised AI isn't giving him more pimpage. Even though he's not selling like Cook, he ain't doing that badly. That Carly show gave him a nice boost and he's not sliding down the charts like most of the second place finishers. At this point, he's pretty guaranteed to sell at least 700K which ain't too shabby these days.

ALTNOY looks like it's flopping but I still think the album has some legs. I don't really understand why the producers gave Carly/Michael time to perform and yet haven't even shown a minute of the Crush/ALTNOY video. It's really in their financial interest to pimp him a little more.

Puzzling.

^^^My comments weren't intended to be critical, so no need to defend *against* them imo. I only added a couple of additional examples of the "wide variety of people," as you say, that he appears to be marketing to (with a shotgun spray, not a rifle shot. :-) ) *shrug*

Im 28 and ill admit to watching icarly even before I knew he was going to be on ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ heck my husband sometimes watches it too hahaha. I think now is the best time to experiment and try things, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still young so its not all that surprising, ya know. Instead of later when your going Stevie and JoBro...

Well said Frogcooke. Funny thing is I and two of my kids, 18 and 21, had never heard of icarly before David was on there. It is silly and random but pretty funny and entertaining, and we have been watching it off and on since. It is a pretty good window into what (good) kids are like today with technology.

As far as the "high school football games", he went to one game in the Columbus, Ohio area as part of his radio promotions there. Only one.

And Tinawina, I remember a lot of hand wringing going on for a long time over LO, but they were patient and it eventually started doing better. I expect the same thing to happen to ALTNOY. It would be unwise to pull the plug now, IMO. I never expected ALTNOY to act in any way like Crush, because Crush was the first single from an album that had not been released. Many of David's fans already had ALTNOY from his album when it was released, so it has to gain new fans over time. It IS moving up and bigger stations will add it as it slowly moves up the chart. For many of us, it is moving too slowly, but those close to David have expressed that they are fine with where it is and have confidence it will continue to grow.

Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t forget the teddy bear and corresponding single. :-)

As far as the teddy bear thing, it is for charity. I don't remember the exact details but I read that the CEO of build a bear met David while he was at the Today show or somewhere like that and thought he would be the perfect person to kick off this campaign, which is going to be repeated by many artists. David loves doing charity, so it would be hard for him to say no.

In fact, many things David has done (probably the Miley Cyrus thing), he is doing because people have asked him to do it. His label then decides it is not a bad idea, rather than them seeking out these things. David is marketing to a younger crowd and is marketing to an older crowd. I wouldn't call that a shotgun approach. He appeals to a wide variety of people. Good for him.

His label then decides it is not a bad idea, rather than them seeking out these things. David is marketing to a younger crowd and is marketing to an older crowd. I wouldn’t call that a shotgun approach. He appeals to a wide variety of people. Good for him.

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he have posters up in middle schools and do concerts at high school football fields? He has an online video game. His face stays in the teen magazines.

Don't forget the teddy bear and corresponding single. :-)

But, then again, there's the Mardi Gras parade. So, yeah, it's a bit of a shotgun approach if you ask me (or even if you don't. LOL)

Rihanna, along with Leona Lewis, was among the top ten world-wide album sellers of 2008. Add to that her massive single sales and thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just no way Rihanna can be said to be underperformingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I didn't just make up my point about Rihanna. There were a spate of articles last year about how one reason that she was almost broke was because her label forced her to pay for her own videos using her endorsement money because they were dissatisfied with her album sales to that point.

You know, I always perceived Jive as treating teens/tweens as Archie's core market. Didn't he have posters up in middle schools and do concerts at high school football fields? He has an online video game. His face stays in the teen magazines. Hannah Montana and ICarly are the 2 biggest TV shows for that audience. So it all makes sense.

The McFly tour is short, isn't it? I think it is at the same time as the UK album (single?) release. One of the Archies will know. Either way, I don't think a 3/4 week detour is a big deal.

The only thing I worry about with Archie is ALTNOY's performance. It's going really slow and it doesn't seem to be picking up any big adds. It makes no sense to me because the song is good IMO. I hope Jive puts out another song if this one doesn't get moving in a couple of weeks. My little honorary stepson deserves another single. LOL.

Noctem: I also wonder if Jive was underwhelmed by Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s freshman performance as a function of how much effort they put into her, and if they are unwilling to go through that again with Archie. They had to absolutley muscle her album just to get it to the point where it can be considered a middling success.

I think youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re vastly underestimating Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s success and her value to her label. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not just about album sales any longer. She had three top ten Top40 hits off a debut album and massive airplay... yielding royalties to both the songwriters and copyright owners. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Airà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was a solid hit in Europe and the UK without, as far as I know, a great deal of promotion. Factor in the charting ringtones, single downloads, video sales, etc.

For all the talk about how we are in a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“singles eraà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ now, singles still yield miniscule profits to everyone involved.

Sell enough of them though and they DO become profitable. Jordin sold around 7 million single downloads -- roughly the financial equivalent of 700,000 album à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“unitsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on itunes. And ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not impossible to sell both singles and albums sucessfully (see Daughtry with 8 million single downloads.)

And there are artists out there who are absolute single-selling monsters like Rihanna, but still find themselves out of favor with their labels because they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t move sufficient numbers of albums.
