HOLY CRAP. Those are amazing numbers for Kelly!

  • Kirsten

With sales numbers and airplay like Kelly’s, I’m pretty sure that she is a lock for number 1 on the Hot 100. This will be the first time that an Idol has achieved this for something other than a coronation song. She eclipses the previous record of 2 on the Hot 100 (previously set by David Archuleta who will still hold the record for highest Hot 100 song off of a debut record). No Idol has topped the Hot 100 since Taylor Hicks did it with “Do I Make You Proud” back in 2006.

Kelly sold more than 100K more than the second best seller this week. Beyonce has the highest airplay this week and was outsold by about 160K

  • Kris

Go David! 1.5M for Crush here we come. It will be interesting to see what affect iCarly will have on Crush as well as ALTNOY.

  • frogcooke

    Crush still plugging along… lol

    and awesome for Kelly!

  • sma11ie

    Woot goooo Kelly!

  • abbysee

Great numbers for Kelly. Airplay is astounding! And David Crush continues to cruise.

  • yeahyeahsure

Congrats Kelly!!! She’s killin’ it! :clap_tb:

I think it’s safe to assume she’ll get her first Hot 100 #1! I’m beyond happy for her! :jittery_tb:

  • latingrl2005

    Congrats Kelly!!!!

    1. 280 32 = 312.0 – Kelly Clarkson
    2. 120 154 = 274.0 – Beyonce
    3. 161 104 = 265.0 – Lady GaGa

This should be enough for # 1

  • primeminister

Wait, are digital sales the only type of sales that get factored into Hot 100 rankings?

  • sma11ie

^^ What other types of sales could there be for singles? I don’t remember the last time I saw a physical single.

  • latingrl2005

Wait, are digital sales the only type of sales that get factored into Hot 100 rankings?

Online streaming counts for 5% of the rankings.

  • Kirsten

    I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s safe to assume sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll get her first Hot 100 #1!

Kelly Clarkson went to number one with her coronation single “A Moment Like This”. She moved 236K singles that week. This will be her first non-coronation song to go to number 1 on the Hot 100.

^^ What other types of sales could there be for singles? I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember the last time I saw a physical single.

There are still commercial singles. They can be sold physically or digitally (two or more songs bundled together. They are charted on the BB “Hot Singles Sales” chart, but aside from Idol Coronation commerical singles (which haven’t been released for a couple of years), there isn’t a lot of volume moved by songs on that chart. Singles stay forever on there (there is a version of Jingle Bells listed on that chart from last week). Lady Gaga topped that chart last week with Just Dance. You get four remixes of the song.

If a single is the A-side, sales of commercial singles will contribute to the Hot 100 ranking (unless they’ve changed that recently).

I think the best place to find commercial singles is at Amazon.

  • Kirsten

Online streaming counts for 5% of the rankings.

Yep. Formula is 55% airplay, 40% sales and 5% streaming.

  • sma11ie

[Commercial singles] are charted on the BB à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hot Singles Salesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ chart, but aside from Idol Coronation commerical singles (which havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been released for a couple of years), there isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a lot of volume moved by songs on that chart.

Interesting– didn’t realize there was a Hot Singles Sales chart– so does that chart exclude digital sales? I also didn’t realize there were digital singles that come bundled with more than one track.

  • maggiemay

that’s really awesome. i’m so glad it’s doing well. can’t wait for the album

  • hardkandy

    That’s so great for Kelly!!!

  • Kirsten

Interestingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t realize there was a Hot Singles Sales chartà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ so does that chart exclude digital sales?

It includes the digital sales of commercial singles (more than one track bundled). It does not include the sales of digital tracks (individual songs). The Hot Digital Tracks monitors those sales.

  • waffle

Let me be the first one to congratulate DC on those awesome numbers for Light On! So happy for him, Kelly and Archie! :)

  • latingrl2005

    Billboard

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ Switching gears from an original American icon to the first “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson debuts at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs with “My Life Would Suck Without You,” selling 280,000 downloads. The tune is poised to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when the chart is compiled later today (Jan. 28). If it does, it’ll be the biggest jump to No. 1 ever, surpassing Britney Spears’ 96-1 vault with “Womanizer” last year. If Clarkson’s “Suck” zooms to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it will be her second chart-topper, following her debut single, 2002′s “A Moment Like This.”

Didn’t Michael Johns have something come out last week? Any sales info?

  • Lu

Any news on Taylor’s new song?

  • jumpstart

    Congrats to Kelly. Amazing #’s!

Also congrats to DC and DA on their continued good sales.

AI must be very proud. I know I am.

  • Kirsten

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Michael Johns have something come out last week? Any sales info?

Not yet. Maybe Idol Chatter might have some info.

Any news on Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new song?

I think it went on sale yesterday. This set of reports are only for sales up until last Sunday night. Next week is the earliest that numbers could be expected. It hasn’t received a lot of promo, so it might not sell enough to hit the top 50.

  • phyllis_0227

Great news. Hope she takes the spot away from Taylor Swift. She has been up there too long. Go Kelly and so happy for your rebound and not giving up on your amazing talent. Still happy with David’s numbers, but I think Light On may start to fade and I hope his new single is on the way. I keep checking is official site and .org site and wordnerd site but no leaks. I think with my lurking it will be mj who will find that lead. Wonder what song will stand out on his tour. Still wish he would do “Avalanche” but seem to be in the minority.lol. Everyone have a few relaxing days til we start all over again and it is just going to get crazier. Hold on to your hats and warn the families!!!
Oh BTW I am a watcher of 90210 and “Crush” was played perfectly during a love seen where the couple decides not to make love. I think if you go to the CW you can watch the show. It is about midway when the couple visit Pom Springs. He is really getting into the acting world too and what a surprize. He has grown so much in his stage presence and will love watching ICarly and the other show he is scheduled to do on Nick. Can’t remember the name but in his Blog. Take care all…………I still love the girl who was suppose to go on tour and hadn’t told her band yet. Blonde with pnik strip. Very cute. Terrible with names. Did she get in????- Oh the episode was LAST WEEK. This weel was a repeat.

  • sma11ie

Did some sleuthing on Pulse, and found that DCTR ended up at #14 for the week, which means he sold somewhere between 23,000 (#16) and 25,000 (#13). Nice job! Looks like he’s around 915K.

  • weareallinnocent

^^Cool! Slightly better sales number than HDD predicted, but a little lower ranking. I’ll take it! :-) I like the #14 better than #13 anyway. LOL

  • mac

Does anyone have a summary for each week of DCTR (the ranking and number sold for each week)? I was just curious to see what they looked like overall. I could go back in the archives to look up the information, but I suspect someone on here already has that info handy! Thanks in advance!

  • gigglesmo3

    mac
These are the numbers I have for DCTR, which I got either from here or DCO.

    Week 1 #3, 279,578
    Week 2 #10, 111,623
    Week 3, #10, 87,069
    Week 4, #10, 103,544
    Week 5, #13, 128,874
    Week 6, #10, 100,745
    Week 7, #16, 30,595
    Week 8, #18, 19,394
    Week 9, #10, 31,000 (rounded)
    Week 10, #14, estimated 23,000

  • oceana

Actually there’s a new poll on DCO front page, “which song do you like the best on the cd?, and Avalanche is one of the top 2 or 3. Also it’s apparently a big hit in the Phillipines. So Phyllis, you aren’t alone :)

  • JudyOhio

Small though they might be, I’m still wanting to see some numbers on ALTNOY. Sam Cooke is at #146, so wouldn’t TOML and ALTNOY be showing something? What number does “the list” break off at. Around 5 weeks ago, ALTNOY was at 25,000 sold. I hope when it does finally show that it will show the current week AND the cumulative number sold, sigh. Where are the souces for this? Did the well dry up? I think Cook’s LO numbers were available when he was around the 70s ranking at itunes in pop. The lack of info, is that because Ken Barnes isn’t at the helm of Idol Chatter anymore?

  • weareallinnocent

^^Ken Barnes definitely was the source of the off chart numbers, as I recall. Yes, he’s definitely missed!

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Album and digital singles sales from Brian at Idol Chatter HERE.

  • weareallinnocent

^^^Yes. And, he has ALTNOY at 75,000 total, JudyOhio.

DCTR sold 24,000, for approx. 919,000 total per Brian Mansfield.

    :clap_tb:

  • JudyOhio

    Yep! Thanks Pam!

Per Brian at Idol Chatter, finally an update on ALTNOY. See below:

“Meanwhile, A Little Too Not Over You, which re-entered the Top 200 last week with almost 10,000 downloads, drops from 143 to 169. This week’s 8,000 sales bring the track’s total to 75,000.”

    Hey, it’s a start!

(Will you start putting these lower ones at the top too kirsten, along with toml, and any others?)

  • jumpstart

I think Archie’s appearance tonight on AI will help boost ALTNOY sales. It’s a great song and I can’t wait for it to start getting more airplay.

And YAY for Cookie. Only 81,000 to platinum! :clap_tb:

  • sma11ie

Hm, how did Brian get 919K total for DCTR? Adding Gigglesmo3′s list above (replacing 23K with 24K) yields 916,422… maybe rounding up for the last two weeks? But that only gives me ~918K max, right? Haha, this is so minor, I don’t know why it is bothering me.

Looks like Jordin will sell platinum in 4 weeks if she maintains 2K per week. Hmm, I’m guessing she will hit platinum one week before DC unless DC’s second single shoots out of the gate and races up the charts within the next couple weeks (doubtful).

  • SashaB

Yay! Wow, that’s awesome. So HDD’s projections were less than the actually units sold. Yay. Boy, I’m just thrilled. Awesome that LO is selling at a nice clip.

I am SO happy for Kelly. I’m telling you, she’s going to school Katy Perry. Heh. Kelly’s back. Awesome.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Hm, how did Brian get 919K total for DCTR?

I was wondering the same thing. When I did the math, I got just over 916K.

  • weareallinnocent

^^^My guess, it’s a case of excessive rounding, an ailment likely to last only a single week. ;-)

  • JudyOhio

Pam, he messed up DAs too. In one place he has the album at 61,000 and we know it’s at 607,000. He also then rounds it to 610,000, which of course it is 607,000. I think he needs to proofread his work more carefully! If he keeps that up, we could start not trusting his numbers.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

^Thank you Judy. At least I know I’m not crazy. lol

  • frogcooke

This week is most likey the week Crush finally goes recurrent on the Hot 100.

  • spanishfan

Congratulations to DC on sales of LO for this week again, now nearly 650,000 and growing steadily and the airplay is also rising well now 22 on Top 40 and 6 on HAC

Fabulous news about sales for DCTR giving a total of 916,000 and only 84,000 to platinum in sales and already certified.

Also good news for TOML reaching 1.1 million.

  • Kirsten

(Will you start putting these lower ones at the top too kirsten, along with toml, and any others?)

Yep. I’m a bit busy right now, but I’ll add them to the main chart later tonight. I love putting up as many numbers as I can get.
