My son looooved Sleepwalker the best as soon as the album came out and it’s been his favorite ever since until he heard Adam sing Aftermath live last week in concert. Now he’s dying for an acoustic recorded version. I never liked SFW on the album, but live, it’s now one of my faves. Love that live performance. Amazing vocals.

I saw Green Day live last year and Billie Joe Armstrong’s vocals were fantastic. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

Agreed. Went to the American Idiot concert. One of the best concerts that I have ever seen. Billie Joe Armstrong’s vocals were just superb. The clipped, nasal, punk sound that he often uses is a bit of an affectation – he can actually do a lot with his voice. He sang one song more traditionally, and he almost sounded like Elivs, of all people. I was really blown away.

ETA: Studio57, just saw your clarifying posts, sorry about the confusion. I still personally wouldn’t use GreenDay as an example of an act that doesn’t have stellar vocals to go on though.

    ITA!

And that is why I clarified my second post, lol. Like I said, I am talking about album only- not live vocals, and as a Green Day fan and a HUGE fan of American Idiot, I believe that GD is listened to more for their lyrics and instrumental sound than they are for Billie Joe’s vocals.

Adam, on the other hand, is recognized mostly for his vocals, and so an overproduced album buries it.

Elevator was a bad choice for a second single for dear David and maybe Jive realizes that. Didn’t they do some serious focus group research in advance on that one? I’m thinking not. The concept for the song was great but the execution is all off. Can/will they do a third single now?

not that it means much but a fair amount peeps reviewing the album, EW and some blogs and stuff pick Elevator as one of the songs they like.

Ok, some random thoughts – first, Aftermath is not my fav (though live acoustic is GORGEOUS!!) but when the album first came out its more generic sound made me think of a Daughtry tune, and thus one of the more radio ready songs on the album. I could definitely see it being released in another country, and doing really well. In the US, I think SW is the stronger choice (again, in part because of the Tedder connection – radio loves him, and this is one of his really strongest, hookiest creations).

Second, I agree that Adam’s answers haven’t COMPLETELY ruled out another single, so it could go either way. After all, this is the guy that said flat out no he wasn’t going to be a mentor on idol in the months leading up to it (and fwiw he was probably being completely honest there, in terms of not knowing about the gig then), and who said his tour would maybe be a handful of dates, and family friendly ;-) So yeah, things change. And the decision about another single isn’t his.

I think RCA would be stupid to sit on it, but who knows. They’ve been really good with him so far (for the most part), and probably have good reasons for not releasing it if they decide not to (Adam not around in the fall to promote it, might muddy the waters if they go with the more HAC song rather than a more pop route that he’s probably planning to take going forward, etc.)

Also, Adam, please say yes to the concert DVD, because the Indy concert was INSANELY awesome! OMG I need that DVD in my life so badly, in fact I might forgo SW as a single release JUST to get an actual HQ DVD of Adam’s show!
