Idol Sales News – Week Ending 07/28/13

Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” is used to open up the this year’s Idol tour and it is absolutely tearing up the charts. This will no doubt be its 8th week on top of the Hot 100 and next week, nothing is stopping it from claiming its 9th week (the last song to stay 9 weeks on the Hot 100 was Maroon 5’s “One More Night”). It has also spent the last 7 weeks selling more than 300K downloads – this week should make number 8 and next number 9. The only other song to ever sell more than 300K for nine weeks is “Thrift Shop”. And, Robin is set to break Idol judge Mariah Carey’s record for the highest radio impressions in a week (“We Belong Together”). This is a monster hit and actually the kind of song I would have expected Timberlake to release. It also features Pharrell who is getting some buzz as a new Idol judge.

Last week, One Direction released “The Best Song Ever” and it spent the beginning of the week at the top of the download chart. “Blurred Lines” eventually took back the lead. Should be interesting to see how many copies they sold.

Phil Phillips and One Direction are predicted to be in the top 50 album sellers.

This is the weekly sales thread. Please post numbers as you find them. Thanks!

And One Direction up-ends Robin and his mondo-hit to take over the leaderboard on the Digital Songs chart:

Hot Digital Songs: #1 Best Song Ever, @OneDirection 322,000 (debut).

Downloads

Carrie Underwood, See You Again: 28k (474k)
Danielle Bradbery, The Heart Of Dixie: 15k (93k) [2nd week drop of ~81%]
