Fall Out Boy tops the chart this week debuting with 150K in sales. That is in the same range as their last album released almost 5 years ago during the Christmas rush. Not bad. Although I still think it was a little surreal for them to show up in the Idol audience to nod at Ryan last week.

Olly Murs from UK XF (and singer on DWTS last night) will debut in the top 20. Kelly, Carrie and Phil are all in the top 50. Hopefully we will not have to wait too long for the numbers this week.

This is the weekly sales thread. Please post numbers as you find them. Thanks!

We should be getting 1-day predictions from HDD today, right? I would think Fantasia will be on there, wonder if Tate Stevens will be?

Fantasia is far enough away from Idol that her sales should be comparable to other artists in her genre. In this current climate, I’d say 50K would be a decent first week but I’m completely guessing here.

  • Madilo

yeah and i think they’ll all be there but i think Fantasia’s sales will be good

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

I saw that Fantasia’s new album is now #2 on the iTunes album chart! One of my friend told me that when she went to Target earlier today to buy the new album (Target has an exclusive version of it), it was all sold out. The employee said that they had a large amount of her new album in stock but it was gone within the end of the day. She went to another Target and they were out too! I was surprised to hear this. Does anyone know if this is happening at your local retailers? It sounds like Fantasia is doing better than expected. I don’t know how she is doing on Amazon. Wasn’t she on GMA this morning? Maybe that helped? And she must gotten good promotion from American Idol as well. My prediction is the album will debut with a 90k to 100k in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 (I could see it charting at 3 or 4) and No. 1 for the US R&B Album Chart.

    ‘Idol’ performance boosts Fantasia sales

    Sales

And Phillip Phillips got his second gold-selling single, as Gone, Gone, Gone passed the 500,000-download mark.

Yes to this, looking for platinium :)

  • LongKissGoodnight

Congrats to Phillip on his second gold single. %))
Awhile ago someone asked what would be considered a good result for a primary HAC single and I answered that well-selling top 10 HAC hits tend to go gold. Since GGG just reached the 10th position that seems like a correct assessment.
And I stand by my prediction of 2,5-3,5 million grand total for GGG after it becomes a CHR hit.
I am willing to bet that it will reach top 20 on POP chart, closer to #15 really, but with clever promotion and some lucky timing I feel that this song has really good chances to go all the way to top 10.

  • Madilo

omg i hope you’re right, i would love to see that happen :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Nice to see the songs selling well! I really think Kelly’s Greatest Hit will go Gold in couple of months. Good for Fantasia. Hopefully the boost from GMA and other appearances will do some good for her. I really want Fantasia to succeed with this album.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

I believe it will happen and remember Phillip will be back on idol for the finale so his sales will pick up

  • blackberryharvest

Here are the one day predictions for Fantasia and Tate Stevens:

    Fantasia (RCA) 90-95k
    Tate Stevens (RCA Nashville) 14-16k

    http://hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

Not bad Fantasia! Ouch at Tate. So far all the contestants from The Voice and X Factor have bombed. I like Tate, so its kinda sad, but at least he gets an album unlike Melanie.

Well at least he sold more than Javier Colon of The Voice! lol Good for fantasia! Hopefully it will have solid footing and have longevity like Kelly’s Stronger did on the chart. I want her album to at least go Gold. She deserves it. Hopefully she will do a tour!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

    Perfect timing! haha

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

i believe she might even sell more because she is doing a lot of promo this week and i’m hearing you can’t find her album in some places and i’m not surprised by Tate’s Sales

  • windmills

Good job, Jason! HDD is predicting Fantasia to sell 90-95k based on one day sales :)

    http://hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

Tate Stevens is projected to sell 14-16k.

  • jpfan2

That’s a good opening week for Fantasia! Maybe it’ll even get closer to 100K by the time the week ends. Tate is kind of where I thought he’d be.

  • ptebwwong

Actually, Tate’s one day predictions are higher than I expected. He’s a talent show winner, but his single isn’t doing very well, has no buzz, & doesn’t seem to have a big fanbase. Frankly, I thought he would sell 5K-10K his debut week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Who knows… she may surpass the 100k number?

  • jpfan2

I think top 20 on POP is very likely. I’m not so sure it’ll sell in the 3 million range as you predict but I hope you’re right! So far your crystal ball for P2 has worked well. ;0

  • jpfan2

    On the $..

  • LongKissGoodnight

Oh wow… I was just about to post that I was not expecting big numbers (14-16K max) for Tate in another thread. Weird.
Realistically, knowing the benchmark for TV and XF contestants: Javier Colon & Dia both did ~10K after TV season 1, and the rest of this 2 franchise winners have yet to release an album. I would not even call this bad.
Short time it took to put out the album have probably ensured this slightly better result.

I do not follow RNB world music sales numbers but if the aim for successful album is 500K, than 90K seems like a very good place to start. Congrats to Fantasia (even though her tone hurts my ears and steals my soul a little bit).

  • Anny_nanny

I read the statistics. Scotty’s album went platinum on the 27-th week (I know, it was declared much earlier), Phillip has five weeks in stock, but I do not believe that he will reach platinum so quickly.
But, my God, what I’m saying? A year ago, I wanted to Phillip had not been eliminated from the show before the Top 3, and had a career level of James.

  • http://twitter.com/bluinjewin Landon Cox

Not gonna lie, I totally hated Phillip on the show, but I just got a new phone and have mostly only ported a lot of Idol music onto and it keeps playing his stuff and I really like it. Does his daddy let him date?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Happy for Fantasia! I hope that she manages to break 100K.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

Exactly and it’s smart. I have never seen a male artist promoted so much out of America Idol and get respect from music industry veterans like he has in just a years time

  • Madilo

yes but he loves someone else lol

  • jpfan2

P2 still has the girlfriend he had on Idol. She doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. I didn’t become a fan of P2 until very late last season. I think he has some of the X Factor they can’t seem to find on the X Factor. ;)

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

I think it might actually be more. she is #2 on itunes #11 on amazon and from what i am hearing she is selling out of stores and she has promo this week and a show at the Beacon theater which i am glad to be attending saturday

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

You will have to let us know how the show is! I’m sure it will be very energetic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

In time, I think the top 5 sellers of Idol will be Kelly, Carrie, Chris, Scotty, and Phillip.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Really? What’s the scoop? lol

  • LongKissGoodnight

Scotty had a bit of advantage with his album coming out a month earlier, therefor catching more time during 4th quoter (best time for music sales).
With Idol aperance in 5 weeks I think Phillip should be around 900K.

I knew that Phillip was going to become a winner by the time he finished singing “Thriller” (I remember being quiet ticked off by the predictability of that result, LOL).
Later it had downed on me that if nothing else he is going to at least develop a loyal following throw touring, because boy has his own style and reeeeeealy can hold an audience.

But I am with you on the general amazement at how much his career had taken off so far. Right guy, right place, right time. ))

  • Anny_nanny

I saw Phillip was afraid the elimination and I worried for him – my first favourite for the first time won and I was very worried.

  • jpfan2

The gf’s twitter picture. She’s got P2 and the gun. I think the message is clear. ;0

    https://twitter.com/HannahBlackwell

  • Madilo

you’re so true, he has the “it” factor :)

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Its funny, when Fanny debuted well last time people said it was only because of her suicide attempt, although she opened at about what other top non-crossover R&B ladies opened with. Now it’s an Idol appearance, even though that hasn’t happened for other alums performing on their debut weeks. I think it’s just time to admit she’s just successful in her niche. I’m not saying Idol didn’t help, but people likely responded because they were already fans, not because of Idol itself.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

I might move that order around to put Phillip and Scotty higher. Looking 20 years down the round. :)

  • fuzzywuzzy

Huh? I don’t think that means that P2 “loves someone else”. lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

Phillip Phillips album is probably already certified Platinum bu they won’t do it until actual sales are over a million. We have to remember certifications are based on shipments not sales. Phillip has hold 844.000 copies of his album i guarantee it has shipped over a million copies already.

  • Wfish88

Great predictions for Fantasia! Hopefully she’ll get past 100,000 mark. Just imagine where she’d be if she kept her image straight… Tate’s numbers do not surprise me, he just isn’t interesting…. he’ll prob fall off billboard 200 next week.

  • Anny_nanny

I prefer to wait a million sales.

  • Madilo

don’t even know what you mean huh

  • Madilo

if no one go Home, they won’t play GGG then, oh non :(

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

i agree and they have done that with everything with phillip

  • girlygirl

Of all the XFUS and The Voice winners, he’s gotten the most promo, though.

  • taylor

Scotty and P2′s sales numbers would have to pick up significantly from their first album numbers if they want to catch up with Daughtry or Carrie. Unless they put out a double-platinum selling album ever year, they aren’t coming close to Kelly, who has sold over 25 million album and 40 million singles worldwide.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

    I most definitely will

  • fuzzywuzzy

Pretty close to how Fantasia’s last album sold when it was released in August, 2010:

Back on the Billboard 200 albums chart, former “American Idol” champ Fantasia starts at No. 2 with “Back To Me” (117,000). That marks her highest charting album yet. Her “Free Yourself” debut started and peaked at No. 8 in 2004 and her sophomore effort “Fantasia” topped out at No. 19 in 2006. The latter set entered the chart with 133,000 over a busy Christmas shopping week. The new album also debuts at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart — the singer’s first topper on that list. “Free Yourself” and “Fantasia” peaked at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

i wonder what simon cowell thinks of p2

  • girlygirl

It’s not getting any pop play at all, so I really doubt it will do anything close to what you are suggesting. I know the CHR add date isn’t until late May, but I think you are ignoring the fact that this song isn’t getting the type of promo Home got — which was a huge factor in its sales. It’s possible GGG will go platinum, but I wouldn’t expect much more than that.

  • girlygirl

why do you think this? CHR radio isn’t playing the song at all right now. There’s no guarantee it will suddenly start doing so when the official add date kicks in.

  • calliebeckett

and she got over 11,000 twitter followers!!!!

  • LongKissGoodnight

GGG has been added by 5 POP stations and is receiving around 170 spins a week.

Here is update from April 22d:
    68 68 PHILLIP PHILLIPS Gone, Gone, Gone 171 150 +21

A lot of songs… well… virtually every song from non-A listers does not get that many unsolicited spins before their label really starts promoting it to the format. It would be highly unusual for a song from a new non-core artist to crack top 50 on POP on unsolicited airplay.

I find encouraging the fact that this song is so high at a time when Phillip is removed from the spotlight.

Plus it is a strong digital seller. Even minimal exposure to the new format will result in exponential improvement in sales, which in turn should help Interscope to prove Phillip’s case.
Plus the fact that it IS Interscope and they are NOT slacking on promotion when it comes to Imagine Dragons material, so I do not see why the only other, almost equally successful big alt.rock project that they have going right now would receive less. To promote GGG to POP format with anything less then absolute conviction would be a loss in potential revenue. Mistake that I don’t think this label is going to make.
    But what do I know…

In the end of the day time will tell. We can agree to disagree for now.

  • ADRIANAARG1980

lmfao!!! that was good one hahahaha

  • ADRIANAARG1980

OMG how much I love to read what you post :)
More important I can understand lol ;)

  • LongKissGoodnight

    thanks %)

MJ’s, why you haven’t posted a thread for Fantasia’s prediction? you usually do that with any Idol release…and I think she needs it, cuz she is proving she is a great seller in her genre..I bet she will cross the 100k prediction

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=579290324 Michael Bishop

I’m surprised Kelly’ “People Like Us” isn’t doing better. I bought the track months ago and love it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Don’t worry, it will pick up traction! I hope Kelly will be booked to sing at the Billboard Award show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

I plan on going to Target tomorrow to buy her album. Hopefully there will be some left. If not, I’ll go to Walmart or Best Buy.

  • Madilo

she is not nominated why would she sing then ?

  • Madilo

I’m like LongKissGoodnight, i believe in GGG chart success on CHR and i think time will tell us but i’m hopeful. Look where the song is before even getting added like 68 is not far from charting and it’s not far from top 20 overall radio airplay so that tells us something.
The song has so much potential that a little push and it explodes :)

Last but not least we’re talking about Phillip Phillips he’s always there to surprise us and this will be the case hahah

Kelly and Carrie will always be the top sellers from Idol. I don’t think he was saying that Scotty or P2 would catch up with either of them. It was a ranking of the 5 winners with the most overall sales and I agree with the list.

  • jpfan2

Thanks. This should move up to #9 soon on this chart. Still doing very well on Triple A.

  • Anny_nanny

    I copied what was. :P

  • Madilo

yeah doing good on AAA but Stompa is coming i dread her haha
I see GGG in the taking off chart with 2 adds on Top 40, so cool

I think I remember Simon calling P2 just another loser WGWG right after the show ended.

    hahaha

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

Yeah, the real issue is that music doesn’t sell as much as it used to when Kelly and Carrie started. That might impact things a lot, too. But I still think Phillip and Scotty both have the potential to be huge in their areas.

  • Anny_nanny

Not Digital songs, Digital traks. It’s Digital songs, check numbers of P2

Lee’s single, Silver Lining, is currently #939 on the iTunes overall singles chart. So this will give us a benchmark to see what sort of boost it gets from his performance tonight

  • Madilo

she has 3 stations playing the song and its total spins are 51

But the fact that her song is not even under cool new music and the add date is in a week is not doing her any favor, i don’t know why they don’t add it there

    it’s released then ?

The comment was in response to CanadianLady’s statement that Phillip and Scotty would be higher than Daughtry, Carrie or Kelly 20 years down the road.
