Already making my Christmas wish list … of songs I hope David Archuleta includes on the Christmas album. Can’t wait!

  • unique28v

I have a feeling that if Simon does a vocal talent search competition, it will differ from American Idol regarding the voting. I think the judges might have more say in who advances/wins, etc than on Idol.

David A. is definitely going to be a busy, busy, little bee!!

Someone on Twitter…I can’t find it now because Kris is still getting tweeted a lot…mentioned that they were looking forward to seeing Kris at the Shareholder’s meeting.

Maybe Simon can put together a vocal competition

    a) where the contestants sing the whole song
    b) have better song choices
    c) no lame theme weeks
    d) make it global – now that could eclipse AI.

  • Victoria

    ^ I like that idea.

I remember a while back some of us were speculating that Simon would turn AI10 into the first season of a similar show, possibly an American version of X Factor. I wonder if that’s what he’s up to?

They did it before, it’s called the World Idol, and won by Kurt Nilsen, beating Kelly Clarkson in the process. I suspect they don’t do it anymore because it overshadowed the winner of American Idol, not good publicity I should imagine. And Kurt was the better singer on the night, winning performance here -

Not gonna lie, the idea of a DA Christmas album makes me feel all warm and toasty inside. Don’t know how he’ll get it all done, but he never seems to sleep as it is.

I’m actually pretty nervous about album #2 as it *should* be a more accurate reflection of the direction he’s headed in. Hope he manages to get what he wants, no matter what that is.

New Simon vocal talent search = X factor in the US you watch

  • Tess

I have so many mixed feelings about what David Archuleta is throwing down on his plate. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy all of them but I am getting a little concerned about Quantity over quality.

David, IMHO, has an amazing voice and can sing up a storm and his performance skills are getting much better. But, I still see the “little” kid trying to please everyone. I get this feeling that he is overloading himself to please his fans and that his advisors are so afraid that unless he puts himself out there day after day that people will forget about him.

I can’t blame David for his first album…he didn’t know where he wanted to go, the production was to fast, the choice of songs were about the “market” and not David’s skills. I feel pretty comfortable in saying David didn’t “like” it so much either since he sings a lot of covers, bonus tracks, unused songs when he sings in public.

My fear is that his Christmas Album is only going out to appease his fans and that the album will just be a bunch of songs, sung remarkably well, but without direction or cohesiveness. I doubt that it will go down with the “Greatest Christmas Songs Ever” and won’t last more than a season. Veteran entertainers usually put out their Christmas Albums after they have a firm foothold in the industry so that they can pull it out every year and get more and more people to buy the album…making it into a classic.

As far as David Archuleta Round 2….He’s touring this summer, has been busy night and day for the last year, still doesn’t really know who his core audience is, hasn’t had the time to develop his unique style. Of course, these are only my opinions, but I do wish that he would finish up the summer tour, forget “rewarding” his fans with a Christmas Album, and take the fall and winter to record an album with songs that showcase who he is and where he wants to go. Maybe, by then, he will start maturing into his voice.

Besides, if he releases a fall album he will be sharing the limelight with the Season 8 idols…and based on the fan following for Kris and Adam I don’t think he wants to try and share the few recession available dollars with those two.
Good luck, David, have a great summer tour and I hope someone advises you well.

  • LK09

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m actually pretty nervous about album #2 as it *should* be a more accurate reflection of the direction heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s headed in. Hope he manages to get what he wants, no matter what that is.

I have heard rumor that JIVE is still pushing him in the pop direction, but I hope that he gets to do at least part of his album in songs that reflect a future direction.

Tess- I worry about David, but I am less worried than you are. A couple of things I know: He has been working on writing for months, he doesn’t need autotune at all and works very quickly, so he can get a lot done in a short time. I think it is really a matter of the material he has to work with. That will determine how good his albums are.

There was rumor of a Christmas album and then for a long time, it was said he wasn’t going to do it. I assume since he is now doing it that he feels pretty good about it. There have been many signs in the last 6 months that he has strong feelings about what he wants and that he is taking a lot more control. That is a good sign.

  • lefty

Tess, while I don’t have a problem with the Christmas album (if it happens), I definitely agree with you about the other. It seems so incredibly fast to be putting out album #2 and I worry about quality, timing, etc. too. I hope the label will allow him to put out an album that represents him rather than one that caters to the wretched state of Top 40 music as of late.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I actually saw the press release yesterday about the new talent competition. I’m just wondering how much more is Fuller going to be taking on? LOL

You can see the actual press release HERE.

  • KathyH

I won’t worry about David Archuleta’s career future because I’ve got enough in my own life to worry about. I’ll just trust David. He hasn’t let me down yet and I’ve nearly worn out the first album. I’ll also buy music/concert tickets as they become available — still as huge a fan as ever.

I feel pretty comfortable in saying David didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“likeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ it so much either since he sings a lot of covers, bonus tracks, unused songs when he sings in public.

I’ve read news lately that seasoned performers often sing their old faithfuls, even when they are weary of them, because they know that at least part of what makes a concert enjoyable is the audience’s ability to feel a part (by singing along, knowing the songs, etc.) I’d guess that David includes covers in part because he knows that some of the audience will know the songs, even if they may not know his entire album, and partly because David loves those songs and is refreshingly supportive of his own music heroes.

  • amiroamor

They did it before, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s called the World Idol, and won by Kurt Nilsen,

I don’t know if this is off-topic, but Simon’s comment about him being ugly was freaking RUDE.

  • frogcooke

“and take the fall and winter to record an album with songs that showcase who he is and where he wants to go. Maybe, by then, he will start maturing into his voice.”

well seeing as he doesnt have anything on the radio at the moment and it looks like they are done with the current album, id say moving on to the next one is the best option. Especially since there are no more singles from it they are going to use. If they were using more from the current cd, yes he could take more time to work on the second album. JoBro and rhianna have put out cds about a year apart.

If he started recording in the fall winter.. it likely wouldnt be out till the begining sometime next year.. and thats a long time not on radio.. He hasnt had anything significant on radio since november as is already. Sometimes its better to put something new out than to take your time and wait too long. especially if the first album isnt doing anything at the moment. He’s already been writing on and off since at least march.

alot of people say he needs to mature into his voice.. I mean what does that even mean?

I think he’s mature enough to realize where he is at, at this point in his life and what he can/should or should not be doing. He recognizes the fact that he cant just omg jump right in and make ‘adult mature mature serious’ music. He’s still young he realizes this and knows it. What is he just supposed to wait till he gets more exprience and etc untill he can make music? Yeah his stuff is still going to be a bit younger than where alot of people seem to think he should be at. Im sure he still wants to experiment a bit with things too before he settles into something.

Theres always going to be comprimises with the labels, thats how it works. As long as they are getting on the same page I think its fine. Im not too worried about stuff. what ever happens happens and there really isnt much any of us can do so why worry about it ya know.

Im more concern over him getting some sleep… but he insists on being a normal teen that wants to not sleep all the time and thinks they are invinsible… sleep who needs sleep? lol

    eta:
about the christmas album… I have no idea about putting out 2 albums in the same year. I dont normally pay attention to that stuff so i dont have alot to say about it.

But Im sure this has been something thats been kinda on and off since last year. It really wont take that much time to record them either since its songs he’ll already be familar with and wont have to learn songs to much. I think deciding on songs and stuff would be the most important thing but the recording it self wont take much time at all.
Theres no reason it wont be cohesive…

    eta 2:
About release schedules.. Obviously there is no date yet. But if he releases around october ish and kris/adam/the boogie man releases in nov. I dont see it a big issue. Even if they all release in nov. Its not like idol albums are the only albums that come out. Yeah there will be alot of ‘omg new idol peeps’ cd buying of kris/adam/boogie man. but that happens every year.

Personally I think David is more removed from the idol audience so he wont nessicairly be tapping into it that much anyway.

They did it before, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s called the World Idol, and won by Kurt Nilsen, beating Kelly Clarkson in the process.

I remember watching this and being so impressed with him. Kelly clearly didn’t want to be there and trotted out her old faithful RESPECT. He won because he sang a fantastic version of a rock song that would never have been heard on Idol in the early years.

My guess is it’s contract negotiation time with AI and Simon wants to renew for 36million or more–hence the talk about doing other things, quitting the show, being bored, etc. He’s turning the screws a little to get producers nervous. Recently a poll came out saying @ 70% of AI viewers felt the show would suffer a lot without him on it–Simon was probably behind that as well.

  • praepos

alot of people say he needs to mature into his voice.. I mean what does that even mean?

David’s fans have always been divided into two worlds–the kids and the adults. Jive so far has targeted primarily the kids. So too does this new tour with Demi Levato. This makes a certain amount of sense since it’s a lucrative market and since he projects such a youthful persona. But his superior vocals and interpretative skill deserve so much better. He’s indicated he wants his second album to be for a more mature audience. We’ll see if Jive allows this. The full power of this kid’s potential has yet to be unleashed.

  • yeahyeahsure

Anyone know when Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour will start?

Apparently in the Fall. They’re just working out the dates and stuff.

  • AC

You know what? I always had a thought that AI would suffer without Simon but after this year, I want him gone. Instead of actual judging, he gives “critiques” based on who he wants to advance in the competition and it really is irritating. I hope they don’t replace him with Piers Morgan or anyone like that. May I suggest Michael Slezak? hehe..

Not sure who is too blame for this but isn’t his father part of his mgmt? What father would allowe an 18 yr old to work four jobs? I dunno but it sure seems that David is supporting the whole freaking family, himself, the four sibs and parents. If papa Arch makes any money it’s also off David. Please don’t suggest that. The day Piers Morgan gets on the show is the day I quit watching AI. He is one oily slimey git with no qualification at all to pass judgement on anything to do with music.

  • LK09

This poor guy has been working constantly since AI7 started. He hardly had any personal time or rest.

My only impression of David since AI is that he is having a blast doing what he loves and that he has endless energy. Not too worried about him in that sense. I have a son that is like him– no matter how much he took on at that age, he always wanted to do more. Some people are like that.

  • praepos

If this were true, David wouldn’t be projecting the image of someone so totally happy and full of joy. The kind of joyousness he radiates just can’t be feigned. He simply loves what he’s doing and just wants to keep doing it. He had a blast on the UK tour and also in Manila–despite jet lag and grueling schedules–and this came through on his guest tv appearances. The tours were successful precisely because of his boundless energy and upbeat demeanor. He was simply brimming with happiness. Doubters should check out his interview with Paul O’Grady of the BBC or his appearance with SIS in Manila. David is one very happy kid.

  • serenade

Doubters should check out his interview with Paul Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Grady of the BBC or his appearance with SIS in Manila. David is one very happy kid.

Or just follow him on twitter. His random, charming tweets crack me up or make me smile on a daily basis. The reason he seems to be able to take on so much is that he is just simply driven and madly in love with all aspects of music whether it’s performing for a crowd, recording, songwriting, traveling. He loves it all. There’s no greater motivator than love of what you’re doing.

I think the problem is that for those who don’t follow his thoughts and experience his enthusiasm and energy, they’re just left with the overwhelmed kid they saw on Idol and still think he’s being “forced” to do this when that couldn’t be further from the truth. The simple fact is that David was overwhelmed on Idol and didn’t know how to react in front of the judges. It was a weird season overall with many of the top ten always looking stressed. But I got to see a completely different and amazing kid outside of the Idol bubble. Thank goodness.

Oh and he’s pretty much just been hanging out at home the last few days and doing stuff like going to concerts for fun, to the movies and attending his little sister’s graduation. After he got back from Europe and Asia, he tweeted that he slept away almost an entire day (which probably helped to get rid of jetlag). He does get time to just relax and that’s a good thing as well.

In other news, I’m excited that Kellie Pickler gets to perform at the CMT Music Awards on June 16! Usually she’s a presenter and not a performer. This is awesome.

He has been getting plenty enough of down time. He’s been going to concerts with his family and friends, going to the movies, sightseeing in the UK and Hawaii, etc. He even went to his school’s senior ball. It just seems like he’s constantly at work because he’s always in the news. Sure, he’s busier than your average sedentary teenager (or adult) but this is the career he has chosen and he has to take advantage of opportunities laid before him or else he won’t be the success that he is now. I agree with others that all I’ve ever seen from him is that he is loving it. He’s having the time of his life.

Speaking of David in the news, he was on KUTV (Utah news) earlier today. He will be at the Rio Tinto Stadium this Saturday to sing the national anthem during the Real soccer match. After the game he will sing 3 of his songs. You can watch part of the interview HERE. They lost the feed towards the end of it.

I do agree that David is very busy.I think its his bastard father.Sorry for my language.I call it like i see it.his father built himself a nice name in the media lol.
I think its clear from last year that his father over-works him.Archie is 18yr old there’s no way he choose all of those mature songs.I mean song choices like
“Longer” ,”Another Day In Paradise”,”Work It Out”? I think his father was a big deal on why Archie lost. You can tell he didnt have a postitive up-bringing but thank god he still smiles that he’s on top of the world.I love the kid.

  • houstonrufus

Yeah, froggy, I agree. David loves being busy. My sense is he is having a blast. I also agree that any album, particularly with a big label, is a compromise of sorts. My sense is Jive and David still aren’t exactly on the same page, but that is probably typical with most artists. I’m hoping Jive lets David show more range on the album. I don’t worry so much about David anymore, not the way I used to. Partly that is because he still has youth on his side. He also has tons of talent that is getting an unbelievable workout.

Do I have my hopes? Preferences? Of course. I haven’t agreed with every decision that has been made. But, really, what do I know? The experience and education David has been gaining is simply invaluable. It brings to my mind the recent interview where he said it was starting to click in his head on the UK tour that the less he worried about what people thought, the better he performed and the more the audience loved it. That’s the kind of lesson that comes out of all this hard work and experience.

Oh, and as for his tweets, they are a riot.

  • leome

Speaking of tours… does anyone know anything regarding Kelly’s tour? Where is she going? When? Any talk about going to other countries?

Archie’s second album… have they said when it’s coming out? Is it this year or could it be in the beginning of next year?
I ask this because if he’s not in studio already I don’t see it ready before October, and if it’s a November release, it will probably be like his latest album. He’ll be in studio in his free days. Not only sounds a rush for a second album, it would come out at the same time as the new idols and at the same time as his Christmas one. It’s weird. Maybe he could go to studio after the summer tour and release it in 2010. A single could be release before that,
He has had many time off (I mean… considering everything) and he seems to have people around him doing work for him too. I wouldn’t worry about that part.
It does look like he’s supporting the whole family… but that’s another story.

I don’t know much about Hollywood, but I’m quite confident in saying that most if not all major label recording artists are subjected to the same schedule as David. Some probably even have it worse than David. I’m sure David expected and prepared himself for the life he has now.

I also believe that if David doesn’t have the schedule that he has now that people will be all “Poor David-His label and management don’t care about him *patpat*”.

    Ooh, chips and cookies! <3

  • JudyOhio

In defense of Archuleta’s first album, I liked it quite a bit. There are only a couple of songs I skip, but all in all I feel it was a good first album offering. I think the mission of the first album was to transform him from AI ballad boy to pop artist, and they accomplished that. Then on to his own solo tour in the US, check, good job. Then he went international, Phillipines, check, good job. Then on to front for McFly in the UK, check, good job. Reunion with DC and a HUGE concert in Malaysia, check, good job. And all the while, he mingled with the TV teens of today, Hanna, I-Carly, Teen Choice Awards, check, good job. Couple of little acting parts, check, good job. Next up, on to a US tour, special guest with Demi, more teen exposure, check, good job. And now, new buzz, talking of next album plus a Christmas one perhaps. The kid has put in a tremendous amount of work in the last year. Crush selling 1.7 mil and a gold album is pretty nice too of course. I love following this kid’s career! He lets NO grass grown under his feet. I love following this kid’s career. He’s got one heck of a work ethic!

  • LK09

People can believe what they want, but David’s father had a very succcessful business and a very nice home long before David became famous.

David does have a vast repertoire of music in his head from many different decades (the reason he is called a jukebox), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to sing certain songs. Some of those songs were chosen for him, and they only had so many songs to choose from. Plus many times, the producers wouldn’t let him have his choices (various reasons- licensing ,etc), so he was left with songs he probably wouldn’t have chosen. Also, some songs (Longer may have been one of them) he made upbeat, modern arrangements and days before time to sing, the producers took them away. IMO they wanted him to keep singing “boring” ballads, so they could keep him in his place (not winning). JMO

Ok, frog- I did go on a little rant…..

BTW, I love most songs on David’s first album and so do my kids and husband.

David is doing everything possible in order to be successful in the current music business. He should be commended for his work ethic, and I don’t question whether his schedule is too hectic. He’s doing what is needed to make it in this era of a struggling economy. He’s an adult, and will make his own decisions. Go Archie, and I wish you nothing but the best in the future.

To me, First album has proved that David Archuleta not only able to sing those ballad songs beautifully, he also able to rock the stages w/ those pop songs from his first album. This young man is talented.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Longerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Another Day In Paradiseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Work It Outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? I think his father was a big deal on why Archie lost.You can tell he didnt have a postitive up-bringing but thank god he still smiles that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on top of the world.I love the kid.

“Longer” was the producer’s choice for him to sing. He had no choice about that song.

In one of his radio interviews, the DJ asked, “Is it weird having a dad with two roles as just a dad and also as someone who works with you professionally?”

David replied, “It’s been a really cool thing, just because you know, being able to have someone there who is really concerned about things going well for you and always trying to do your best and also keep your standards and keep you grounded in this kind of world is really good because he’s someone who will be on my side and try to do what’s best for me. And he’s not like I’m gonna try and just sell as many records and who cares about you. He’s the opposite. He’s the guy who’s always on my team. So it’s really cool.”

In another interview, David said that his dad is really laid back like him and doesn’t ever yell at him. He has debunked those TMZ stories over and over in many interviews. David didn’t even know about the Daddy from hell stories until after the finale and every interview asked him about it. I think this speaks a lot about his dad. He obviously didn’t tell David about it because he didn’t want him to worry about those things. David had more important things to worry about, his performances.

He has had many time off (I meanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ considering everything) and he seems to have people around him doing work for him too. I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t worry about that part.

That’s what his father is there for. He’s there to look after his safety, chauffer him around, and to take care of the business side of things. Jeff was quoted saying, “I try to take care of the business aspects, so David doesn’t have to worry. It’s important that he has time to relax, hang out and just have fun.” If he had to worry about all those details, do you think he’d have the energy or desire to twitter all the time? Or continually have that big grin on his face? I don’t think so. If Jeff weren’t there, they would probably have to hire someone else, a personal assistant of sorts, to do all the things he does for him any way. So I think it’s a good thing that Jeff is there so that they can keep the money in the family.

Judy, I agree with you. I am quite fond of David’s first album. More than I thought I would be. I also agree that it has done exactly what it was meant to do. People may have ideas about how it could have or should have done better, but the stats you cite, especially with all considered (time constraints, radio/sales climate, etc.)–I couldn’t be happier for David.

Hopefully, with all of David’s talent and hard work, he’ll continue to move his career upwards and onwards.

Speaking of toursà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ does anyone know anything regarding Kellyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour? Where is she going? When? Any talk about going to other countries?

Kellys doing a bunch of shows during the summer in the US but the “All I Ever Wanted Tour” will start in the fall and will cover US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

  • hermy

huh, I wonder what Simon is planning heh. Maybe he’s seriously leaving…?

And yeah, David doesn’t like to “do nothing”. He’s like an energizer bunny lol. You can tell he loves every minute of it.

Although David also seems to have Ray on call full time now too. Ray was at the Z100 sponsored concert helping out with soundcheck last week and he was also in Virginia with David for the charity cook off thing he did. So I guess Ray also serves as an assistant/tour manager for David even in those times when Jeff can’t be around. Ray went to the Asian promo tour with David and Jeff stayed home in Utah. David tweeted about this little debate he seemed to have with Ray about the proper spelling/pronunciation of a Japanese word for the cook off. Turns out David was right. lol

In any case, I’m thinking the overblown urban legend of David’s evil stage dad is more entertaining than the boring truth, even a year later.

According to Rickey.org…Archuleta earned 1.3 mil last year. I expected more since that kid worked so hard.

1.3 mil is a lot of money. Taylor Hicks only made 300,000 last year, and that is a lot of money too.

here is a fox 13 vid he did today.. talks about the albums in both interviews(2 in 1 vid)

Also here is another article from today(cute pics too hahaha)

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705308344/David-Archuleta-Already-serving-a-mission.html

“We’re still trying to decide what songs might be best,” he said about the Christmas release. “They’ll probably be my favorite Christmas songs, and we might need to come up with more different approaches.

“The pop album is different, (because) you need to try to find what suits you best,” he said. “I definitely want to get more involved with the writing. But I feel like I have writer’s block 24/7, with little openings. We’ve all got our weaknesses, and that’s mine.”

Someoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s comment at the end of the article re: Carrie Underwood:
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“it just shows a girl from a small town with good values wins outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

As opposed to the flamboyant guy from San Diego who makes à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“questionable lifestyle choicesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , I suppose. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m reading waaaay too much into that comment.

Methinks you just have Adam Lambert on the brain and that’s why you drew a comparison somehow. I read that article this morning and never once thought they were trying to invoke some sort of comparison to a guy who wasn’t even mentioned.

According to Rickey.orgà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Archuleta earned 1.3 mil last year. I expected more since that kid worked so hard.

The Forbes article reported earnings from record sales only and it covered only a few months–not even the full year. It didn’t include the various tours, the Manila Concert, the tour with Levato or the summer fairs. (He will receive, for instance, $100,000 for the San Diego fair–same as Cook.)

I think its clear from last year that his father over-works him.Archie is 18yr old thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no way he choose all of those mature songs.I mean song choices like
    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Longerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Another Day In Paradiseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Work It Outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? I think his father was a big deal on why Archie lost.You can tell he didnt have a postitive up-bringing but thank god he still smiles that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on top of the world.I love the kid.

Archie didn’t choose Longer–the producers chose the song for him. He didn’t much care for the choice either–but was told he had to sing it straight instead of using a more contemporary arrangement–which he had already worked out with a friend.

He chose Another Day in Paradise because of clearance problems with other songs. He had already had several other songs turned down by the producers, so it was a last-minute choice. Besides, Besides, he couldn’t have chosen a more recent song–since the format–choosing a song from the year of his birth–would have prohibited such a choice.

And he chose the Beatles song We Can Work It Out because he was familiar with the Stevie Wonder version. He didn’t have an option to sing anything more current–those were the choices dictated by the format of the show itself. To suggest Archie’s Dad was behind these choices is simply wrong.

Finally, almost everyone concedes Archie is a nice kid, a loving, kind, affectionate, considerate human being. He didn’t get that way by having a negative upbringing. He got that way because he was surrounded by love and affection all his life. To imagine the opposite is to ignore the laws of human psychological development.

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got one heck of a work ethic!

Speaking of which–during the AI tour he got in more time with the fans than any other idol.

The TCA, my mom knows someone that gave her a hint. They couldn’t tell her everything cause it’s to early. She did tell her that we will be happy and the Archie will be up in the music section this year.

Sooo I was hoping somebody knew more. lol

I am going to be voting everyday this year cause I want to see Archie get his own surfboard on TV. If he wins I soooo hope they show it. :)

    It does look like heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s supporting the whole familyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ but thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s another story.

Just the opposite–his father is the one who makes it possible for David to function successfully. Do you think he’d be so joyful if he had to worry about contract clauses, tour dates, hotel arrangements, etc.?

Archuleta earned 1.3 mil last year. I expected more since that kid worked so hard.

How many 18 year-olds do you know who earn $1.3 million in just a few months?

  • BubbleGum

Archie is successful for someone his age.He really is the most successful runner-up.He’s very smart with dealing with the public and the media.

  • Tess

How many 18 year-olds do you know who earn $1.3 million in just a few months?

I do hope everyone keeps this figure in proper perspective. These are gross earnings paid to the David Achuleta Franchise and not to David himself. There are tons of stuff that come off of this figure before David gets a dime. As an example: taxes, management fees, security, his band, tour overhead not covered by promoter or record company and the list goes on. It’s still a nice chunk of change but I think if he pocketed 20% of that he was fortunate.

For little old cynical me the biggest winner was his church who got 10% straight off the top.

  • frogcooke

desert news put up a video it look like. Basically the same as the article with a bit more in it

    http://www.deseretnews.com/video/1,5143,870,00.html

  • Buddy

FYI – Not that anyone will really see this, but David’s church does not get ten percent off the top. David chooses to pay the ten percent and he only pays on his personal earnings, after all the business expenses have been paid.

  • Kitwana

According to Rickey.orgà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Archuleta earned 1.3 mil last year. I expected more since that kid worked so hard.

Forbes also reported that David Cook made $2 million. This makes me wonder just how much the artist makes from album sales and downloads. By the time of the Forbes report, I think Cook had sold close to 400,000 more albums. During Season 7, I think he also sold the most downloads. With all this and his national shoe contract, I expected the difference to be a lot more than $700,000. Just how much (or how little) do they get from each album?

  • praepos

Regarding the summer tour with Demi Levato: tickets have been reduced drastically, suggesting problems filling those big arenas. Levato apparently is not that big a draw. As it is, a lot of Archie’s over 20 fans won’t be caught dead at a tween concert–so his potential to pull in his own fans will be lessened. It was a stupid strategy to begin with.
