David Archuleta’s Debut Album

With David Archuleta’s first single, “Crush,” making a huge splash by debuting at #2 on the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, it’s no wonder that the “Archies” have been chomping at the bit for news of the debut album. It has now been confirmed that David’s self-titled CD will be released by 19 Recordings/Jive Records on November 11, one week before AI winner David Cook. Both albums have been named as EW’s “20 Fall Albums We Can’t Wait to Hear.”

Apple being Sued Over Idol Daughtry’s “Feels Like Tonight”

Randy Mazick, of the Arizona-based band The Asphalt, has named Apple in a new lawsuit against Chris Daughtry. The suit, which targets Daughtry, songwriters Lukasz Gootwald, Martin Karl Sandberg, and Sheppard Solomon, the Bertelsmann Music Group (owner of RCA Records), and Apple for violation of copyright over Daughtry’s 2006 hit “Feels Like Tonight,” claims the song lifts its “hook” from The Asphalt song “Tonight,” written by Mazick in 2005 and registered with the US Copyright and Trademark Office in April of this year. Apple is named in the suit because the company distributes the song via iTunes.

What did the judges think after the beginning of round two of the American Idol auditions here in Salt Lake? Host Ryan Seacrest said, “This is one of my favorite cities.” Judge Randy Jackson added, “I actually think Salt Lake City has been one of our favorite cities so far.” Seacrest and Jackson noticed a few standouts, one woman in particular, who will remain nameless for now. New judge Kara DioGuardi seemed to agree.

Overmyer placed 11th but turned many heads with her bluesy, rocking singing style, look, attitude and personality. Since the end of her run, Overmyer graced the stage of famed Los Angeles club Whiskey-A-Go-Go, played a series of shows at the Harley-Davidson Summerfest in Milwaukee and rounded up an all-star band to play tonightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s show. Chamber to hold home tour fundraiser

The annual home tour fundraiser hosted by the Lake Arrowhead Communities Chamber of Commerce is planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Lake Arrowhead.

Tickets cost $35 to $40.

The 6th annual Home Tour VIP event, called Friday Night at the Moulin Rouge, will be from 6 10 p.m. today in Cedar Ridge. The event will feature American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones. Tickets for the gala and home tour cost $125.

Let’s dance: ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ tour is homecoming for 3 Utahns

Dancer Gev Manoukian got into the moves when he was in elementary school.

“I just saw my friends doing some break dancing,” said the Centerville resident in an interview with the Deseret News. “I loved what they were doing, and I wanted to be a part of it. So I tried it out.”

Recently, Manoukian danced his way into the hearts of reality TV fans across the nation. He was one of the 10 finalists in this season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.” That earned him a place on the “Dance” tour, which will make a stop at the E Center Tuesday.

Gev Manoukian is on the move again.

“I could never stand in one spot,” he said. “I’ve always been a spaz kind of guy.”

Manoukian, a Top 11 finalist on Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” is about to start on his biggest professional dance gig to date. The Centerville resident starts a 40-city tour with his fellow finalists on Saturday, in Tacoma, Wash.

His third stop, Tuesday, brings him to West Valley City.

‘America’s Got Talent’ recap: Waiting for the final five

Welcome back! We’ve had a few days to let last week’s mania settle in, and finally, it seems like we’re getting somewhere. We’re going from top ten to top five this week, and next week is going to be the finals. One thing that I didn’t realize is that there are no more judges’ picks from this point on, so America is left to make “responsible choices,” according to Piers. Let’s see how that goes.

This week is “heroes week,” where the contestants all have dedicated their acts to their personal heroes. Unfortunately, this does not mean, as I originally thought, that their acts are dedicated to the television show Heroes. I think that would make it way more interesting.

Jerry welcomes us and the judges to the show. The Hoff looks very dapper in a suit coat, as opposed to the as-of-late fugly-ass vests he’s been wearing over dress shirts that show way too much chest hair. We have an unnecessary clip show of last night, then we finally get down to it.

    Hey guys! It’s me yet again. I got a chance to go back to utah for a few days to record and had such a great time being home! The whole family was finally able to all hang out and spend time together, and went out to eat haha. I didn’t really have time to hang out with anyone else since we did a lot of music with some cool people based in Utah, but I’m glad there was time for family. Family’s first so that was important to get in haha. Anyway I’m in Detroit right in the dressing room for a Ford executive event that Cook and I are performing at, and it should be fun. I need to get going now but just wanted to check in while I had a chance. Take care

    About the Daughtry lawsuit, I find it surprising that anyone can sue over what is just the similarily of a single phrase with about three identical notes in two otherwise completely different songs –

    I’ll take a guess. The Archie fans will go bonkers when Archie’s album comes out and the Cook fans will be watching all this. It will be driving them crazy. In a week’s time, the fans will know some numbers concerning sales. This will work the Cook fans into a frenzy then to try and outdo those numbers. It is to stir the masses. David vs. David. I think it is to Cook’s advantage to go last. I am just stating my opinion here, I don’t necessarily like the tactic, but it seems like it will be effective sales wise.

    I think the goal for the Idol winners and runner-ups is usually to release their CDs in November Both Davids are working hard and seem to be on schedule, so they both get November release dates. Releasing a week or two before Thanksgiving will be good for both of their sales. I really don’t think it matters who comes first. There are only so many Tuesdays in November. I’m only buying one copy of DC’s cd even if Archie sells 345346574 copies of his the week before. (Unless RCA is smart enough to release different versions with different bonus tracks)

    They have been doing that for years. They really back-end the year in the last quarter by dropping all the big albums. The retailers would prefer more steady business.

    When were Jordin and Blake’s albums released? When was Daughtry’s, Kat’s and Taylors? Call me naive and ignorant (I haven’t followed Idol previous years), but since the David’s are on different labels, and have I’m sure separate and completely different marketing strategies (sure, there’s some overlap of initial AI audience, but ultimately they’re each trying to broaden to different segments) I kind of interpreted their release dates as a result of November being a good time to release an album for both of them. I don’t necessarily think they are inciting fan wars. I’d like to think Jive and RCA are both moving on and thinking well beyond that, for both Davids’ sake. If anything, with some tweaks, I think by and large Jive is putting Archie on a path similar to that of Jordin’s, and RCA is putting Cook on a path similar to that of Daughtry’s, which are both successful models.

    Guys, guys. OK, so I didn’t interview David, but I rambled at him and yes, he was super nervous during ‘Crush,’ he got a mischievous glint in his eye when I asked him if any of his own songs would be on his CD, he said he writes happy songs when I asked if he wrote emo-love songs, and Jeff says David is a PHENOMENAL songwriter and we’ll “definitely” expect some of his songs on the CD. He says he’s a very “witty” songwriter — YEAH. YEAH. I was like, “What, Jason Mraz witty, or more John Mayer?” And he said, “Both” and I said, “What about Sara Bareilles?” and he said, “That, too” and I sorta died.
