Judges give Utah ‘Idol’ hopeful thumbs down

After waiting more than a month for the second round of auditions, 18-year-old Kelly Coombs finally stood in front of four “American Idol” producers Tuesday in a room inside Salt Lake City’s EnergySolutions Arena and sang “Let’s Hear It For the Boys” by Denise Williams.
The judges gave her a thumbs down.
“Too theater,” they told her, saying that her voice sounded too much like a Broadway diva’s.
The Lindon teen was one of scores who showed up at the home of the Utah Jazz on Tuesday to sing in front of the Fox show’s producers for the second round of auditions for next season.
Coombs and her family said the show’s judges, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and the “Idol’s” newest addition, songwriter and judge Kara DioGuardi, will secretly be vetting out contestants in a third round of auditions Thursday and Friday. All auditions this week are closed to the public and news media.

As the American Idol tour comes to an end, season seven runner-up David Archuleta is feeling bittersweet.

“I’m here in Tulsa for the last day of the tour and it’s pretty sad but exciting at the same time. I don’t think it’s really hit all of us that it’s the end of the whole American Idol experience together. It’s been an AMAZING year,” the singer, 17, wrote Sunday on his MySpace celebrity blog.

GAC’s Into the Circle Debuts Saturday

Over the course of the summer over 30 million votes were cast in the competition and Tams came out on top after going head to head with Mitch MacDonald in the final two last week.

    She has said “Spring of 09″. All we know as far as style is that she is working with David Foster and Adam and Nikki Anders of Room for Two among other producers. So a more adult sound seems likely. She has stated that they are taking their time this time and I think that is great news. She has been recording and after she finishes filming “The Storyteller” in October they are going back into the studio for “heavy recording”.

    I’m glad Kat is going in a more mature direction but I wouldn’t hold my breath for an album. The music biz is in the toilet and I don’t see a major label putting resources into her. Unless you can write you own music like Colbie C or Sara B., AC females aren’t moving the units. Even Celine Dion has trouble these days.

    Does David Foster have his own label? If so, I could maybe see an album coming out but that would be the only way. Kat’s not the kind of artist who will or can go indie. Anyway, at least she’s in the right genre and not trying to be Fergie.

    Actually David does have a label. 143 Records under the Warner Bros umbrella. We are fairly certain she is signed already with another major but it has not been “officially” confirmed yet.

    USA Today is reporting that Kellie Pickler has gotten the gig of working the crowds New Year’s Eve when Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest host the big countdown show. Nice to see her management is still promoting her well. Ive heard that her single that she and Taylor Swift wrote may be the one that breaks her out big time.

    I am really glad for Kelly Pickler. She really is a hoot at the interviews. I subscribe to the “First for Women” magazine, and she has a really nice two page writeup. She is also on the cover.

    Yeah, that sounds encouraging. I’ve always loved Kat’s voice but I hated the very R&B sound she had on her album. I much prefer her singing more jazz standard type songs. The music on her album just didn’t suit her.

    About that video where Cook was singing ‘Crush’ to Archie, here is an account from someone who was at that precise moment………….(from “Fans Of David” site…)

    “Cook came out and I had him do a shoutout to my mom on video in which he said à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hi Maggie, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m David Archuleta and I have a Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  it was entirely funny. Soon after, people in all different directions had crush playing loudly (From a sterio, a broken radio *LOL heather* and a car). David was constantly singing and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹boppingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ to the music. David cook was having fun with the song as well, grabbing david and singing it to him. They all seemed very energetic and happy outside in Evansville. I gave him the 100 and something comments I had from fans that thanked him and he said à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Aww thanks, this is long!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  and I told him he could read them anytime he wanted, to take his time.
