‘X Factor’s’ Simon Cowell & L.A. Reid: The Billboard Cover Story – When the show returns Sept. 12-with new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato replacing the first season’s Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul-music buyers will have a chance to determine if Reid’s instincts were spot on. Epic will release debuts from rapper Chris Rene and R&B singer Marcus Canty in October, with season-one winner Melanie Amaro following in December. Further recognizing the show’s power, Reid snagged Cher Lloyd, a season-seven finalist on the U.K. “X Factor,” for Epic, not Columbia. Her first U.S. charting single, “Want U Back,” peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and her U.S. album debut arrives in October. – Read more at Billboard.com

Jennifer Hudson tells Oprah she’s forgiven family’s killer: ‘It’s not his fault’ – On Sunday night’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” the veteran talk-show host spoke to Jennifer Hudson about the tragedy that struck the entertainer’s family four years ago, when Hudson’s estranged brother-in-law murdered her mother, brother and nephew. The difficult discussion led to an unexpected revelation from Hudson: Not only has she forgiven William Balfour for killing her loved ones, but she doesn’t even hold him completely responsible for his actions. “For the most part, it’s not his fault,” Hudson said. – The Clicker

The Girls With Glasses Go Back to the 40s

Season 7 American Idol alum, Brooke White, and her friend Summer Bellessa make a nostalgic trip back to the 40s in their latest episode of Girls with Glasses. Brook tweets that she begins recording a Christmas record today!

Bucky Covington Talks ‘Good Guys,’ First Album in 5 Years – It’s been a long wait for Bucky Covington, but with this week’s release of “Good Guys,” he finally has new music out. After hitting on Lyric Street Records with hits like “A Different World” and the touching “I’ll Walk,” the label closed — putting his recording career on hold. However, the singer says he kept going thanks to the support from his loyal legion of fans. “I’m very appreciative of them sticking with us,” he says. “When you go through things like the label shutting down, and getting caught in the middle of things, the fact that we came out of that, released this new video, and had a million hits within 24 hours, God bless the fans. It’s great to be remembered.” – Read more at Billboard

‘The Voice’s’ Cee Lo Green on the New Format, Addition of ‘The Steal’ – On Sept. 10, Cee Lo Green will be returning for his third season as one of the four coaches on NBC’s The Voice. The funky singer with the eccentric style and infamous white cat tells The Hollywood Reporter that contestants “have their game faces on” this season, as the show introduces some new changes to their format. In the battle round, the four coaches – Green, Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton – will have the opportunity to steal a contestant from another team if he or she loses the battle round. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Kate Hudson On Her Glee Character: ‘She’s Really Nasty!’ – “[She’s] a really nasty, fun character,” Kate told Access Hollywood’s Scott “Movie” Mantz at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her film, “Reluctant Fundamentalist.” The promos for the new season already show Cassandra giving Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry a hard time, and Kate has enjoyed playing the saucy teacher.
“She is definitely very petty and fun, but she’s got a good arc. She goes somewhere,” Kate hinted. “But, it’s a blast. I’m having so much fun on ‘Glee.’ It’s really, really fun.” – Read more at Access Hollywood

As much as I like eye candy I would really prefer someone who would be able to put a sentence together as well. I guess that would leave Randy out.

  • Larc

I would prefer Randy over a few people, but the list is very short.  For instance, I’d rather have him as a judge than Perez Hilton.  But that’s not saying a lot.  ;)

  • pj

I hated X-factor last year. I don’t know any of the contestants except for that little girl. I didn’t stick with it, though.  I am curious about this year with Brit Brit and Demi, but I am so tired of Simon. I guess the jury is out.

I hope The Voice lives up to my expectations.  I think last year with the steal Jordis might’ve been picked by another judge (stupid, stupid Blake).  LOL.

Not thrilled about Randy returning to Idol.  But Keith Urban?  Yum!  Maybe all the middle age stans will focus on him instead of the vanilla flavor of the month.

  • sdmama

Simon should send Randy a fruit basket if this pushes some viewers off American Idol to X Factor.  I’d rather want to hear Simon than Randy, and thinking about tuning in for the first time. Simon, don’t waste your chance, you hear me?

  • Karen C

That’s me. I like a few of them a lot on The Voice and now I struggle to remember who I liked. I don’t even remember faces unless I strain. But I remember all the XF people. Go figure.

The really weird part with the Voice for me was that the only ones last season I remembered were Jamar Rodgers, and Jordis Unga, and that was only because I had seen them on other shows.  I didn’t have this problem on the X Factor and Idol, and am usually surprised how many I remember.  Not sure why I don’t on the Voice.

It´s the “britney factor”, we all know it is not a great show, but the curiosity is eating me alive.

  • girlygirltoo

I wonder if the fact that CBS broadcast the US Open men’s final today — and that it was a fantastic 5-set match that didn’t end until after 9 p.m. Eastern time — will impact the ratings for The Voice at all.

  • elliegrll

I feel the same.  There’s nothing new about The Voice, but Britney Spears being on The X Factor is so interesting.  If the show is the same as it was last year, Britney’s presence isn’t enough to keep me watching, but right now it’s enough to make me excited for the show’s debut.

Melanie isn’t releasing her CD until December?  Not a good sign.

Why not?  It’s either the week or two weeks before Christmas that sees the most amount of album sales, as people look to buy stocking stuffers.  Melanie’s biggest issue is that she probably won’t have a song that’s getting airplay, unless Epic gives her another single.

Interview from Danny promoting his eyewear line last week. He seems very excited about how it is going, lol.

I have sort of a soft spot for Randy. I’m ok if he is staying on the show, and I do think he plays a valuable role in continuity over the history of the show to balance the new judges who have never seen any good finalists in years prior and so jump way too fast to proclaim this year’s crop the best ever ever ever in the whole universe (multiverse?).

I watched the voice tonite, there were some pretty good ones that didn’t get picked.but I really enjoyed it so much.

your prob right about Bucky,I’ve never listened to anything he’s recorded
I don’t even rembr him on idol.I kinda wish Casey J.would cut his hair
I get agravated when I hear that people get them confused.Caseys in a whole other league.

girlygirl–I watched the US Open tennis final, too. Was that Simon Fuller sitting next to Andy Murray’s mom?? Sure looked like him. [Agree it was a fantastic match!]

…to balance the new judges who have never seen any good finalists in years prior and so jump way too fast to proclaim this year’s crop the best ever ever ever in the whole universe (multiverse?).

Yeah, that would be really rude of them – stepping on Randy’s line. He uses it every year for all the TV interviews. I hope whoever they are, they show a little decorum, and let him say it first! *Snerk*

    THR:
‘The X Factor’s’ Chris Rene to Release Debut Album Next Month (Video)

    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/x-factor-chris-rene-new-album-369267

    ETA: Only 7 tracks.

  • girlygirltoo

Only 7 songs? Wouldn’t that really be an EP, then?

ETA – on Chris Rene’s website, it says it is an EP (not an album) and has 8 tracks (not 7)

No. I took a pass on The Voice. I think the three night debut did me in. I find that way too much. I will check out X. It better grab me quick though. There is only so much time I devote to Tv.

I did enjoy The Voice and will tune in tomorrow.  I’ll tune in The X-Factor if I am around a TV.  I am very excited about American Idol, but disappointed that Randy is returning.  He needs to change his judging style and give good critiques.  I don’t care what he wears, but improvements are necessary!

Melanie isn’t releasing her CD until December?  Not a good sign.

I agree, if they had faith in her album appeal, they would release earlier in order to benefit from the inflated sales of the whole holiday season.

This is a way of lessening the effect of negative press for a failing X Factor winner on the new season ratings, since it will be well under way, and the last season related events will be of little importance.

RCA is apparently testing out different radio edits for Trespassing…the Dallas HAC station has played one edit, and a PA CHR station played a different edit last night.  They both sound great, although I prefer the one the PA station played.    Don’t know whether they plan on sending different edits to different formats, or are just using these two stations to test the edits out before making a decision to send one everywhere….anyway, I thought that was interesting

That is interesting that they are “testing” different edits.  Makes me think they’re not going to just throw it out there and hope for the best.  I listened to both, and I also prefer the one the PA CHR station played, but both are good.
