Idol Headlines for 8/9/14

Why Jason Derulo Wrote ‘Marry Me’ for Jordin Sparks – Jason Derulo is so sure that his girlfriend Jordin Sparks is the one for him that he wrote a song about proposing to her aptly titled, “Marry Me,” and had her star in the music video with him. “That’s the reason why I wrote the song in the first place,” he told “Nightline,” “because I wanted her to know that when the time is right then it will happen.” But don’t think he’ll necessarily be heading to the altar any time soon. The 24-year-old pop star said he wants to wait for the right moment before putting a ring on the former “American Idol” winner’s finger. “It will be the most amazing time,” Derulo said. “When I do get down on one knee, it’s going to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life, but when the time is right.” – Read more at ABC News

Cassadee Pope on Going Country: ‘I’m Just Being Me’ – “The thing that I always remember is I wouldn’t be here with out him,” she says with a smile. “When we were still on the show and when – he didn’t have to come to the practices with the band because those weren’t being filmed, he would still show up. So as soon as I saw that, I knew he was the kind of artists that really cared about his job and his artists on the show.” One thing that Cassadee Pope is sure of, besides the fact that Shelton has her back, is that she’s found a welcoming home in Music City with the release of her country debut for Republic Nashville, Frame By Frame, which came out last October and entered at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart. “I feel like the Nashville has really embraced me with open arms,” she says. “I was a little worried at first; you know everybody knows about my immediate past, which is rock music. But everyone is coming to find out that I’ve been singing country music my whole life.” – Read more at Rolling Stone

‘Big Brother 16′: Jocasta Odom on Why Her Strategy Failed and New No. 1 Target – Julie hinted that there was a chance you would be able to return to the game. I would change my strategy if I went back into the house. I promised my mom I would not lie the first time I went into the house. However, not the second! ‘Big Brother 16′: Hayden Voss on Blindside Eviction and Alliance Betrayals – Julie hinted that there’s a chance you will be able to return to the game. Since so many ex-reality show contestants are trying to make it as independent artists and spend at least some of their time thinking of ways of promoting themselves and their music, I thought I’d post this article about whether what one indie musician did to promote himself crossed ethical boundaries (basically he passed himself off as one of Starbucks’ “Pick of the Week” artists)

What do you guys think about his plan?

I watched a country-music news program on TV last week. There was some footage from a live concert that featured electric guitars, pyrotechnics and a well-known female singer whose shirt said something like, “Are you ready to rock and roll?”

They had an interview with the featured male singer, an established name, afterwards and he didn’t look like the same guy. On stage, he wore jeans, boots and a cowboy hat. Offstage he wore a do-rag and earrings.

My thought was, “This is old-school rock, with different lyrics.”

So I’m not surprised that Cassadee has found acceptance as a Country performer.
