Erika Van Pelt talks “Idol” – In a way, Erika Van Pelt’s concert at Mohegan Sun is a return visit. Being part of the “American Idol” tour brings her back to the Sun, a place where she did what she calls random gigs over the years. The 26-year-old South Kingston, R.I., resident had worked at both the Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino, DJing and performing with her band. Back then, she was at smaller venues like the Sun’s Wolf Den and Lucky’s Lounge. On Sunday, she’ll be singing in the 10,000-seat Arena. “Yeah, what the heck,” she laughs. “I love it.” – Read more at The Day

Chris Richardson on His Long, Strange Trip From ‘American Idol’ to Cash Money – When you think of Cash Money Records, the likes of Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay Sean and Nicki Minaj come to mind along with the label’s irrefutable influence on hip-hop. But to American Idol season six finalist Chris Richardson, it simply represents home. “I never thought I would be with this label,” says Richardson, who was envisioned as a pop artist when he first competed on Idol and often compared to Justin Timberlake by then judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul. “I got a chance to meet everybody [at Cash Money], and I think it’s all comraderie — brother and sisterhood. It reminds me of a high school clique, where all your friends hang out and support each other.” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Carrie Underwood Has Big Plans for ‘Blown Away’ Tour – Before she does that, however, she’ll concentrate on her United States and Canadian dates on her “Blown Away” tour, which kicks off on Sept. 14 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Appearing with her as opening act will be rising star Hunter Hayes. She told reporters that fans just might see some collaborations between the two on stage. Also, look for a few wardrobe changes. Underwood promises “A lot of very dramatic costume changes. No two shows will be the same as far as what I wear and when I wear it. I like to have options,” she said with a smile.

Sparks excited about new ‘Idol’ duo Minaj & Urban – Jordin Sparks is excited about the choices for “American Idol” judges. “I think Nicki [Minaj] would be great,” the show’s former winner told us Monday at the US Open. “It would be so fun to see what she does because she’s so unpredictable. I met her the other day, and she is so sweet.” Sparks is also a Keith Urban fan. “I think it would be cool to bring somebody with a country flair who has that experience,” she said. Stanley Tucci, wife Felicity Blunt and Zach Braff, who sat in the Heineken suite, also attended. Anna Wintour stayed late to watch Roger Federer play. – Read more at The New York Post

Jennifer Hudson set for ‘Smash’ – Jennifer Hudson has been hard at work filming her guest appearance on “Smash.” She recently did a scene — supposedly in her character’s Central Park South apartment — at the home of Ian Reisner and Mati Weiderpass, the couple who built the soon-to-open gay urban resort The Out NYC on West 42nd Street. “Jennifer looked great,” said a spy. “She was super- friendly.” After the shoot, the “Dreamgirls” star dined with former French Vogue editor Joan Buck at the resort’s restaurant, Ktchn. – Read more at The New York Post

irockhard – if you see this – you posted this picture in an older thread the other day and I just saw it today, but you didn’t say who this is with James or where you got the picture – I’m just wondering if this is Chris Rene with him.  Looks like it might be to me.

    Thanks mmb.

And if he’s singing Taking it to the Streets….well, not sure how they (RNC) will figure those lyrics into any theme, or even if they will try to.  But that sure is a prime time slot, so wouldn’t think it would be televised.  Hmmm, am a little curious about this…the message of that song and how it fits in.  Oh well, I’m probably about to try and think more into it than there is, so I’ll stop now, lol.

Why do you think he’s singing that particular song?  Has it leaked?  This is a good gig for Taylor, although I’m pretty sure he doesn’t vote Republican.  He’s getting a lot of press and exposure out of it.

  • justmefornow

Pretty sure it’s Chris. James and Heidi went to see his show last weekend at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz.
(It’s hard to recognize him after his dental work, lol)

  • thirdtime

You’re right - I looked up some other pictures of Chris Rene and he’s wearing the same outfit as in this picture.

  • girlygirltoo

    nvm

  • girlygirltoo

I’m guessing Phillip will be the opener, given that strong lineup

I bet Archie would be on tonight if he were available.  A lot of the speakers are Mormons…forget how many.

A cple comments from James KCtr performance:
“….at lastnights show at the Kennedy Center this j— in the audience ask James what his net worth is now while he was on stage and everyone was like what kind of question is that to ask and James seemed a bit uncomfortable by it so I screamed out he’s PRICELESS and then he said yeah PRICELESS OR WORTHLESS depends on who’s asking. Everyone laughed and the j— pretty much felt like an idiot. (PLUS Same person)… bought his CD at the Kennedy Center concert and I swear to you it is honestly the very 1st CD that I have ever bought and ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY SONG ON THE ALBUM! THIS CD IS SO AWESOME AND JAMES IS SO SO TALENTED! I CAN’T WAIT TO BUY HIS NEXT CD! THIS ONE IS TRULY PRICELESS TO ME! : )”
This is from the Interpretor @ the concert:  “Interpreted at Kennedy Center for James Durbin 8/27/12 AND received the guitar pick he used in the show! COOL!”

Someone got a callback notice (date and time) for the Idol producers rounds today! That means they haven’t been done yet! Damn it, Nigel! They are so far behind! So they have to do the producers’ round and the judges? I know they have done this in a few cities in the past, Las Vegas S5 being one. But damn, if they have to do this for all 7 citiies! Yikes!

Here is another comment from James KCtr performance :-) on his FB page:

“…Made a point to get there, and must say, loved the voice, the band, the beat, but more than that – loved your honesty and heart. You enchanted everyone! Not a venue for rockers, but I was about halfway back, and folks were enthralled – by you more than anything else. It was well worth the walk down there after work. Remember, we may not all have your challenges, but we have our own, and the soul you share, and the love and understanding you exude, create a oneness that transcends. You were a hit – will always be, for through your music, you channel the spirit we all seek in this life. You are blessed with the gift of helping others feel that along with you. So special – thanks”

Taylor Hicks did a really nice job at the convention. He did this one little dance step that was a little bit sexy, but cool!  He will be on the Piers Morgan show at midnight.

I still am disappointed but he treated it as a gig, or so I have heard.

  • thirdtime

Thanks for posting those comments.  I’ll add a picture I saw on his twitter timeline from that night too.

    stay strong ??@PeaceLoveDurbin
@durbinrock you honestly made my life the other day. http://instagr.am/p/O-YjfdR4vN/

Was the callback for one of the 7 major audition cities?  The bus tour auditions just finished up on August 27.  There could be callbacks for some of those 10 locations now.

  • justmefornow

She’s so cute. She got him to sign her shirt too :)

  • rodolfochengcanepa

Hi MJ, i´m still waiting 4 the other interviews to the rest of the AI contestants.

TMZ: ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ Randy Jackson OUT AS JUDGE
    http://www.tmz.com/2012/08/31/american-idol-randy-jackson-judge-nicki-minaj-mariah-carey/

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Yes, I just heard that Randy Jackson is out but will remain as a mentor.  It’s about time we get some news regarding the judges.  I have mixed feelings about Randy.  Complaints have been made for years, but he never did anything to improve his judging skills.  It is for the best.  He didn’t get fired.

  • blackberryharvest

Good. And I am also glad he will still have some kind of a role on the show. Maybe he will do better as a mentor.
