Rockin’ Idol / America has a new Idol

Cook says he never saw himself as “Idol” material. He had recently moved from his long-time home base of Blue Springs, Mo., to Tulsa, to play guitar in the Midwest Kings, a band that had a regional touring base.

He had already released a debut CD, “Analog Heart,” and was working on his second album when he auditioned for “Idol.”

Cook wasn’t sold on the idea that his rock-pop sound would be a good fit for “American Idol.”

“I didn’t really know I was what the show was looking for,” Cook says. “I had watched in the past and never seen a rocker win the show. And to me, it was kind of like, if somebody like Bo (Bice) or somebody like Chris (Daughtry) can’t come on here and win it, what shot do I have?”

How crazy has life been for David Cook since May, when he edged favorite David Archuleta to be crowned the 2008 winner of the seventh season of “American Idol?”

“They tell me my name’s David,” the 25-year-old singer says with a laugh. “I don’t know what my last name is. I assume it’s Archuleta!”

He’s in no way complaining about the photo shoots, interviews, tour rehearsals and meetings that have crammed his schedule since his “American Idol” victory, he hastens to add.

But summer traffic clogged the highways into the shore resort causing a slight delay. One fan empathized, “We live at the Jersey shore so we understand.”

Catching Up With Ramiele

Once Ramiele Malubay was chosen as one of the top 24 contestants in season 7 of American Idol, life for her has been anything but dull. After competing for five weeks knowing that she would be on tour during the summer, Ramiele stayed in L.A. This worked out well for her, as rehearsals for the finale and the tour began in earnest before the season even ended.

Life in the Idol world is always fast paced. As soon as the finale ended, rehearsals really kicked up and then the top 10 Idols were on the road, touring America from coast to coast. Lucikly for us, Ramiele took some time out of her busy schedule while she was in Newark to share some thoughts about the past year.

Sony to Pay Louis Vuitton for Past Britney, Da Brat Videos

If we ever trademark a special pattern made from our initials, we would hire the Louis Vuitton legal team to help protect it in a heartbeat because they are on their game. The luxury company won another victory yesterday in its never-ending trademark-protection crusade, this time against Sony BMG. In a legal dispute just slightly more glamorous than LVMH’s recent ones with eBay, Sony BMG has agreed to pay Louis Vuitton 100,000 euros, or $155,830. Louis Vuitton got upset with the music giant because they used its Toile Monogram and Multicolore trademarks in music videos and on CDs by Britney Spears, Ruben Studdard, and Da Brat. For example, in her “Do Somethin’” video, Britney appears driving through the clouds with her sexy girl entourage* in a pink hummer with a pink dashboard embossed with Louis Vuitton’s signature pattern (which flashes on the screen for literally less than a second). “We don’t make dashboards,” a Vuitton spokeswoman told the Daily News. Though you can still watch the “Do Somethin’ ” video on YouTube (thank God), Sony BMG has agreed to cease distribution of American Idol winner Studdard’s album The Return and pay Louis Vuitton an extra, undisclosed amount of cash in relation to that case.

Toms River Fest back in action

Amberlee Adams, along with the rest of America, caught her first glimpse of Carrie Underwood three years ago on “American Idol.”

On Saturday, the 13-year-old from South Plainfield was positively giddy that the famous pop star was headlining the first night of Toms River Fest.

Cowell to shock Seymour with holiday plans

Simon Cowell’s rocky relationship with Terri Seymour is expected to come under further strain after he invited ex-girlfriend Sinitta to come on holiday with him.

The music mogul wants Sinitta and her family to join himself and Terri on their month-long Caribbean Christmas break. They will jet off together after he completes work on X Factor at the end of the year.

Cowell has not discussed the matter with Terri as they are not on speaking terms following a series of rows. However, insiders have said that she will be infuriated by the news.

    Here’s some nice news for DC fans: as of this morning, TOML has jumped from #4 to #3 on the AC chart. Go, Little Rainbow That could! (TM, Jolene, I think.) It made a big jump from this time last week and has the highest number of “spincreases” on the chart.

    also, i live in jacksonville and jacksonville idol was yesterday. i’m a HUGE believer that idol is not “fixed” in any sense of the word (ok- minus carly, she doesn’t count), but i got some really discouraging, RELIABLE (very very reliable) information yesterday that idol producers DO have a way of recruiting certain singers (both good AND bad). my heart was crushed into a million pieces :-(

    To be honest, I think that’s one of the reasons why we don’t have a new single now. This song right now is doing exceptionally well in both the AC and HAC formats. I’m not looking for anything to come out for quite sometime and because of that, I’m happy that the song is still doing as well as it is. :)

    Oh, I’m definitely looking for something to come out. The album is due in November, and IMHO it’s very very important that a single will precede it.
    A rock album can’t be sold on the strength of Magic Rainbow (also, it’s rumored the song isn’t even on the album).

    So I really hope that no matter what the game plan is, it isn’t TOML that’s keeping things from progressing. That would be very very unfortunate.

    I think with the producer that he has, who has a lot of influence in the industry, will know from eperience how important releasing a single is. DC, who is pretty savvy about the business, knows this too.

    Hell, if KLC’s people know to release a single, I am pretty damn certain RCA knows.

    Heh! I agree. It sounds like DC does have an excellent producer and I have no doubt in my mind that RCA knows what they are doing even if I don’t know every little detail. I doubt TOML is stopping the progress of the record because the record isn’t revolved around that song (thank goodness! lol). I’m just as anxious as the next person to hear the new material but I can wait if I have to. :)

    YAY!!!! for “The Little Rainbow That Could”(I love that!!!) My hope is it goes all the way to #1 and stays there for a while. As for a new single, I will be very patient and wait for its release so David can make exactly the record HE wants to make. No doubt inmy mind I will love it.

    Although I am loving the vids from the tour and I am pleased that TOML is doing so while, I am chomping at the bit for someting NEW from David.

    I love his Axiom and AH stuff, and those songs were recorded a while back. Can you IMAGINE how much he ha grown and “progressed”? I can.

    For me the summer is almost at a close as I go back to school (work) on 11 August…so in my mind Autumn is just around the corner and I want that SINGLE!!!! And I want the record he keeps lovingly promising us.

    Come on DC! I know I have to be patient but Damn!

    Okay, to try to keep this on news, I’ll add that when I checked the charts, he was still at #7 on HAC, with an UP arrow, and also holding steady at #35 on Pop 40, with an UP arrow. And as others have reported, his digital sales have gone up considerably since they played TOML on SYTYCD. I’m really curious about where he’s going to be on Billboard this next time.

    There is no question in my mind that DC is now working with some of the best in the business so no matter how much we want to have more David now, I know that they have a way smarter timing in mind than any of us could come up with.

    Meanwhile, we have CDs worth of David to enjoy, from the tour, the show, all his previous work – loads to chew on. Let’s give the man some breathing room to come up with some amazing material, music that soars. I can tell its coming our way. It will be well worth the delicious waiting period we’re now in.

    Is that still holding? I expected a bump for 1-2 days, I’m impressed it had such lasting effect.
    As for Billboard – would it be too much to hope he made it back to the top 50? I want the early spoilers! LOL

    Hmm.. and a question about the TCAs – anybody knows if the winners are spoiled ahead of time? they tape the show tonight but only air it tomorrow, so makes sense someone would leak it…

    Jolene, it is still holding, at least on the only places I know to check. It’s at 32 on iTunes–up from a low of 60 last week and (I think) up from 33 yesterday. It’s #8 on Amazon, and was 6 yesterday. The album is 33 on Amazon. I don’t know what his numbers were on Amazon immediately preceding SYTYCD, but maybe somebody else knows.

    I’ll be so surprised if he doesn’t break back into the Top 50 on Billboard.

    I’ve been trying to figure out Cookie’s shirt for awhile. My best guess at the moment is that the tie is sewn to the collar and down the front, so it’s attached. Not my favorite fashion, I have to say.

    Whats a hogwarts? And I wasnt saying David Cook is better than David A, I wasnt going there. I just see those plaid shirts at JC Pennys in the back to school section with their matching yellow undershirts and thought it was an odd way to dress him for an Awards show. I am not lovin David C’s shirt either, I cant figure that out, I think it is just a contrasting piece of plaid fabric sewn down one side of the shirt? I guess I am bored, missing the recaps and commenting on their clothes like I’M a fashion guru – NOT.

    I want to be 150% sure that this is the truth before i aid in the whole conspiracy-theory of idol- and i will know by 10 o’clock tomorrow night whether or not my source was as confident as he sounded about the info. they will be announcing the winner of jax idol on the 10 o’clock news, and if it is a guy named Josh (he’s a big fish in a small pond here in jax with lots of connections…hes judging “jacksonville Idol” that I’m in- Mr. Cocky) then what i have been told HAS to be true. i scored higher than him but apparently “fate” has other ideas. lol

    ps. i did get to meet that black girl from jacksonville they showed from last year (she came with her friend and went second and did a great job on Take 5 by Billie Holiday- im embarrassed for not remembering her name). shes a wonderful human being.

    but i will post tomorrow night around 10 when i find out. im saying extra prayers tonight that this isnt true.
