Well, perhaps not the top 40 market. I would argue that thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still a lot of great music being made that may not sell like Carrie Underwood, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s there if you look for it. Some of it you can find on major labels. Some not.

I completely agree with you. There is a lot of interesting and really quite good music out there. You just won’t hear most of it on a Top 40 radio station.

MY DEBUT SINGLE “CRUSH” PREMIERED ON Z100!

Hey everyone!! So you might know that “Crush” premiered for the first time on Z100 yesterday! I was SOOOO excited/nervous/anxious for everyone to hear it, and I just can’t believe that it was on the radio! It was such an unbelievable moment, and it was like… watching a dream pop out of my mind into reality lol. It’s just shocking when I step back and just realize what’s really happening, and the possibilities that could be coming. It was so good to hear the comments from the few phone calls that came in right after the song played too, and to know that it wasn’t just the teens who were able to relate to it haha. I’ve been looking at comments and listening to some of the messages people leave and I just wanna thank everyone A TON for leaving your comments and knowing that you like the song. It means so incredibly much to me I don’t think you have any idea. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! lol. I was nervous about how it might be a song that would only relate to everyone around my age, but I realized EVERYONE has crushes or have had them. haha. But ah! I’m so excited to know you guys like it .

I’m just here on the bus on our way to the Atlantic City show in New Jersey. So that’s what we have for today. Then tomorrow Cook and I are headed to the Teen Choice Awards and will be presenting an award. It’ll be pretty crazy doing all the travelling and getting up early and getting back late, but it’ll also be a lot of fun! haha. Anyway that’s it for now. Me too, Spenser and I agree with you. But, not only because of their look. Nowadays, they wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t let anyone with that individual a sound make it out onto the market either. At least not if theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to be produced and marketed by a major label. They would have much better luck with a smaller, independent label but then they wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have anywhere near the marketing and distribution. It is really sad.

However, there’s a huge market for good music. It may not sell to the masses and move Idol-level units, but it allows the musicians to continue to make music for a living. I think the ones who are able to tap into the niche markets are probably more likely to sustain a career over the long haul than someone who is the pop flavor of the month.

ETA: If Flo Rida (although “Low” is my guilty pleasure) or Rhianna are still topping the charts in ten years, I’ll eat my words.

I really think this is kind of a chicken/egg question, neon. If it is all that’s out there, it is what will be bought, you know? People can’t buy what isn’t on the market. So, which came first?

I like the good old days, when album covers were filled with art instead of doctored photos. I’m a fan of when music sells itself, which I get is hard to do in todays market.
