Idol Headlines for 7/25/14

‘American Idol’ draws Long Island talent in show’s first area auditions – Both were among the more than 3,000 hopefuls who lined up Wednesday at the Coliseum for the first-ever Long Island auditions of “American Idol.” In past seasons, the show has had talent searches in Manhattan and New Jersey. Registration opened at 6 a.m., though some had arrived in the wee hours of the morning. Inside the arena, singers between the ages of 15 and 28 tried out in front of what Lynn calls “table producers.” Those who made it through return Thursday to audition for the executive producers. Lynn said only about 150 will get to sing for celebrity judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban at a yet to be determined future date. Colton Dixon finds ‘Anchor’ for the soul – MURFREESBORO – More than 18 months after his debut album, “A Messenger,” Christian recording artist Colton Dixon will release his sophomore LP, “Anchor.” And he’s coming home to do it. The former “American Idol” contestant will perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at New Vision Baptist Church, 1750 N. Thompson Lane. “Everyone who comes in the door (of the concert) gets the new CD. It will be a full-blown show and I’ll be playing all the songs off the new record,” said Dixon, who took a break recently from his busy touring schedule to talk with The Daily News Journal. – Read more at DNJ.com

New CBS Drama, Scorpion, Co-Starring Katharine McPhee, Hits Comic Con

Comic Con is going on now through the weekend in San Diego CA. The new CBS drama, Scorpion, set to premiere this fall, co-stars Katharine McPhee. The series stars and producers presented a panel yesterday afternoon. Here’s Katharine and her co-stars on the red carpet.

‘Big Brother 16’: Brittany Martinez on Landslide Eviction and Not Playing Aggressively – The fourth houseguest from Big Brother has been evicted. Brittany Martinez, the 29-year-old mother of three from Long Beach, Calif., was the latest to get voted out of the house with a landslide 10-0 vote after failing to align with the people — namely Derrick Levasseur and Cody Calafiore — who helped save her several weeks prior.
