Cory Monteith Death: The Dark, Nasty Underbelly of Vancouver – VANCOUVER – A fatal mix of heroin and alcohol killed Glee star Cory Monteith in a Vancouver hotel room overlooking Coal Harbour on July 14. But nearby on East Cordova Street, in the city’s grimy downtown eastside neighborhood, those aren’t the only drugs of choice. “Lysol, rubbing alcohol, shoe polish — they’re cheaper than heroin and crack,” says a front-line worker from the Carnegie Outreach Program, who, along with a colleague, navigates a modern-day Bedlam of junkies, pimps and crack-addicted prostitutes like triage nurses on a battlefield. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Demi Lovato: Cory Monteith Didn’t Have a ‘Choice’ When It Came to His Drug Abuse – “All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction,” she told PEOPLE Wednesday. “He didn’t choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die. It’s really scary, but I’m really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease.” – Read more at US Magazine

‘Big Brother 15’s’ Jeremy McGuire: Spencer ‘is a coward in my eyes’ – Who do you think is the weakest player in the house? “Weakest, as in the one that’s going home next? Or weakest, as in a coward? I would have to say Spencer and Howard are the weakest, but I think that Aaryn might be the one going home next.” We meant more weakest game play. “Probably Spencer. It’d be a big toss up between Spencer and Aaryn for sure. He is a coward in my eyes. He had a good thing going and he backed out of it just because he was scared of the MVP and what they would do. He’s not very physically athletic in any of the competitions and a lot of people in the house don’t like him right now, so it’s not looking good for him.” – Read more at Zap2it

This is off topic. Is anyone watching that show ‘The Winner Is” on NBC? I kinda watched some and it is a joke to me. Also, the youtube views are just in the few hundreds. There’s absolutely no buzz or anything on this show. The so called 101 voters are just mostly youtube and other no name people. What is this show even on?

  • fuzzywuzzy

I have a feeling that Fantasia will be terrific on Broadway. Good luck to her!

  • Madilo

The add date of Phillips third single is july 29 now.

Scotty’s going to have a busy stretch of performances: July 24 at Minot AFB, July 25 at the ND State Fair in Minot, July 26 in Fredericksburg, VA, July 27 in Danville, VA, and July 28 in Chesterfield, VA.

WTH, Mark Salling? Since when does State Farm cover alleged sexual assault charges? How does that fall under home or car insurance…or even under life or health insurance?

  • lkingcorn

Perhaps it’s time to take Cory’s mothers play book and let him RIP. this story and others just putting a conspicuous spin on what should be down played. IMP

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Looking at State Farm’s offerings, the only one that even begins to make sense is Personal Liability Insurance… but that would apply only to tort claims, not to criminal charges.

There’s also a form of business insurance that protects from criminal acts by others, so maybe he’s claiming that making allegations against him is a form of libel/slander that damages his business reputation. That’d be a stretch, though, under the ways those policies are written; they usually protect against burglary and such. Even with conventional Crime Insurance, the insurance company often hesitates to write a policy because the calculations are so complicated.

So yeah, basically he’s full of sh!t even if he’s completely innocent of the allegations.

“When [Taylor] Hicks stopped by the HuffPost Live studio July 18, host Mike Sacks asked him a question for the ages: Who smokes more pot, Snoop or Willie?

“I think they’re neck and neck, actually,” Hicks said with a grin. “It depends on which one of them is touring and which one is not.”

But has Hicks actually blazed up alongside one of the pot aficionados? He said he did spend some time backstage with Snoop following a performance in which Hicks added some blues harmonica to the rap classic “Gin and Juice.” On the question of whether the pair enjoyed any “backstage inhaling antics,” Hicks took the euphemistic approach.

“We played PlayStation a lot,” Hicks said with a knowing raise
    of the eyebrows.”

This isn’t really Idol related, but Little Mix’s album DNA was officially certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for shipments of 300,000.

Happy to see them finally get a certification :)

Nigel Lythgoe’s comments on the comment made by Taylor Hicks about Nigel’s firing from Idol. It’s nice to see Taylor always being so gracious.

  • pj

If the allegations against Mark Salling have any truth, he’s a douche. The State Farm thing is just ridiculous, even if he’s innocent. And the timing? Insensitive.. Although it could be TMZ’s timing, not his.

  • chloe18

I am so excited about seeing Fantasia on Broadway. I’ve never seen her live before but I think she’s going to be incredible. I just have to remember to look out for info. on ticket sales.

  • Not fit to print

I watcehd a bit. Some of the singing was good but asking the contestants to bet on or against themselves turns into a game show. The fact that a great singer/performer could be dropped due to a missed bet basically says it all: a singing “The Price Is Right”. Awful idea.

  • Happyhexer

Also, most insurance policies won’t cover INTENTIONAL torts (as well as criminal acts), for obvious reasons. If you could buy a policy and intentionally commit a tort, then look to the policy to compensate the victim, well, insurance doesn’t work that way. That would be a little like buying an insurance policy for your house, then intentionally setting it on fire. Torts that are grounded in negligence, though, could be a different matter.

Nice article in Variety on Fantasia’s return to Broadway:

Of Broadway’s ‘American Idol’ Grads, Fantasia Is Most Likely to Succeed

With Fantasia Barrino’s toplining stint in upcoming stage musical “After Midnight” now confirmed, producers have locked in the Broadway return of the only “American Idol” alum to drive box office to the heights that matched producers’ hopes for the former stars of the Fox reality competish.

When “Idol” first became a ratings powerhouse in 2002, Rialto denizens saw a potential golden ticket: Here was a hugely popular TV show generating new batches of high-profile singers and releasing them into the world, at which point at least some of them could likely be lured to Broadway for B.O.-goosing musical bookings.

But with the supremacy of “American Idol” having crested in the recent years, Barrino has been the standout in the long list of new Broadway thesps yielded by “Idol” over the past decade.
It’s Barrino, however, who can take a lot of credit for rejuvenating a softening production. Before producers booked her to play the title role, the 2005 musical “Color Purple” had begun to show signs of aging, particularly during Broadway’s traditionally fallow winter weeks. But when Barrino joined the cast in April 2007, sales soared a whopping $365,000, or 40%, returning “Purple” to the millionaires’ club and keeping figures elevated all the way through the year-end holidays.

I knew that Fantasia had been outstanding in TCP, but I hadn’t appreciated that she had been such a box office draw.

  • Anna Bones Clarkwood

    I’m very confused.

Shouldn’t the UK have more sold than that based on:

“Globally, ‘DNA’ has entered the top five in seven countries and Little Mix has sold over 2 million records worldwide.”

It’s not even gold in the US or any other country.

So, is that 2 mil figure just made up, or what?
It IS referring to the album, not the single, if I read the article & the wiki entry properly.

    Plz, excuse my ignorance.

Jessica presented an award to Jennifer Lopez. She spoke some Spanish even though it was only one line.

  • AwBangDingHa

Thanks. I thought the same. Aweful! From the youtube performance views, there’s zero interest in this show. They would have more success if they spin Blake off and gave him his own show. Blake’s Country Voice. It’s the Voice, but it’s all country. Hire Keith Urban or someone similar to replace Blake on The Voice. The 101 voters are a joke too. The are just people off the street basically.

  • chloe18

I remember hearing about it and seeing her perform the song from it on a bunch of talk shows. I also remember a lot of churches would hire buses and do field trips to see the show.

  • Cathy Mcguire Kosak

He’s had a schedule like this pretty much all spring and summer,,just not always posted on here…he’s one busy boy…..thanks for the post…

We know the songs Kelly sang with Reba and Trisha and the one with Ronnie Dunn for her Christmas album. “Silent Night” for the ladies and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Ronnie.

Kelly jokes that with all those guest stars, “I’m so excited. Even if nobody buys this album I’m just so excited that I have it for me.

  • Larc

I don’t recall any previous time that Scotty performed on 5 consecutive days without a break. It’s usually a maximum of 3. But he has been performing regularly and is scheduled to keep doing it for a while. :)

  • usedtobelucy

She was stunning. (in TCP) All the more remarkable because the show, I’m sorry to say, really wasn’t very good. She animated that clunky piece of theater with truth, nuance and passion. When I saw it, she made Celie a living breathing totally believable being from one end of the show to the other, singing or not. Held the stage like nobody’s business. If you ever get a chance to see her act, see it.

  • Larc

Gracious if maybe a bit naive in this case. ;)

  • Cathy Mcguire Kosak

he has had a lot of 3 or 4,one day off then 3 or so more…..…….. :)

  • jayidrocks

    Great to hear.
I have wondered, why only one AAA station have added the song.

  • EvilTroyandEvilAbed

No problem. Records means both single and album sales. Between the album and all the singles, they’ve sold at least 1 million records in the UK. In fact the album sales, and Wings sales are about 750,000 sales alone. DNA (the song) sold about 250,000 sales plus about 100,000 sales for both Change Your Life, and How Ya Doin.

Wings has almost gone gold in the US, and it has sold well worldwide.

So yeah, 2 million records seems about right :)

  • Anna Bones Clarkwood

Yeah, I recall hearing that some ppl add up albums & singles when coming up with totals. Which makes it very confusing when trying get just the total album sales, esp worldwide & accurately.

So, any idea on what Little Mix’s actual DNA album’s worldwide sales are?

What about other wiki reported ww total album sales, like Leona, Olly & One Direction.

I have trusted Kelly (25mil+) & Carrie (17mil+), based on prior in depth research & I think Miranda (~4mil), Fantasia (~3mil), Ruben (~2.5mil), Clay (~5mil), Daughtry (~7mil) are probably all accurate. Actually, those Idols, not named Kelly or Carrie, are US sales alone.

But, wiki had me thinking Leona sold somewhere btwn 12 & 20mil, One Direction ~9mil, & Olly btwn 3 & 10mil.

Some of those that failed to hit 2mil:
    Rebecca 1mil+
    Alexandra 700K
    Cher 500K
    Shayne 1.6mil
    G4 1.1mil

I believe these Nashville star alums:
    Chris Young ~1mil
    Kacey Musgraves 165K

This was a project I was attempting to do to figure out the rank of the biggest selling singing show success stories around the world, 2000 & on aka not Star Search.

I thought I had 11 former contestants that had hit 2mil albums worldwide, with 5 or 6 that had hit or were about to hit 10mil or more, just from American Idol, X Factor UK & 1 from Nashville Star.

Now, you are telling me Little Mix isn’t one of them. Which, I kinda was suspicious about. 300K in the UK, & no other certifications, means a lot of not hitting certifications all over the world, but still selling a lot. It didn’t really add up.

Though, I could believe everyone else from XFUK.

Is there a worldwide list for XFUK or maybe all former singing show contestants, at least of note, available. The American Idol one’s for Album & Singles is very nice & believable. But, the XFUK wiki alumni album list, doesn’t list sales. Which means each individual contestant & album page.

UGH, no idea why I typed so much. I’m sorry.

  • Beaugard Stevens

There have been a lot of “Broadway” Idols lately, with more scratching at the door- personally, I think Fantasia should just concentrate on her singing career, she’s no actress. and I don’t see a big acting career for her. what’s wrong with just being a singer? A Broadway musical is more in line with that, so she can sing- she does that well, but she is a star and she has star power- the others don’t have that so it’s not that fair to compare them to her.

  • Beaugard Stevens

    He’s just creepy

  • halo9125

They need to make up their minds how and to what target group they are promoting Jessica to. Teens? Hispanics? The Ne-Yo crowd? Does Interscope and 19 have ANY clue wtf they are doing?

I am not a fan of Jessica’s by any stretch of the imagination, but there is no denying the girl has a god-given gift and deserves better than the shoddy handling she’s had to date.

JUST IN: In light of Cory Monteith’s tragic death, Glee‘s fifth season has been pushed back a week — from Sept. 19 to Sept. 26. #RIP

  • No Thanks

You know, I’m not surprised. Aside from strong economic forces pushing them in that direction, I feel like the cast getting back together, working again and supporting each other will help them through their grief.

And I’m sure, despite her grief, Lea is probably a firm believer in the motto “the show must go on.”

  • No Thanks

Well, Jessica IS a teen. Jessica IS half Latina (as well as half Asian/Filipina. Jessica IS an R&B singer. I’m not seeing the confusion here. It seems like these are all pretty obvious markets for her.

  • halo9125

Agreed- BUT- there doesn’t seem to be any sort of consistency or follow through. Rather than marketing to several different groups in what appears to be a very random, very poorly orchestrated manor, they should stick with ONE and stick with it. These kids have an uphill battle to begin with, and it’s distressing to see an obviously talented young women being promoted so poorly. Is it any wonder that the numbers are down at the Idol auditions?

  • No Thanks

Oh they certainly can do a lot MORE; but those are the markets they SHOULD be aiming for. But I agree it all seems very half-hearted and lack luster.

She turns 18 next month. Maybe she’ll start slutting it up then to gain attention.

  • Jay-P

Who cares about god given talent. So does Judith Hill. You have to have some luck and the IT factor.

  • Ria.

I was excited about the concept of the show. But I found few of the performances to be very interesting or memorable. They would need to have a 101 that reward the more creative performances but in the shows I watched, they did not.

  • Liteasy

Taylor knows a heck of a lot more than he lets on.

  • abbysee

Did you see TCP? She can act. She was funny, sympathetic, gritty, sassy, played young, and old….among a cast of pretty stellar talent. I’ve been to tons of Broadway plays, seen some of the greats and up and comers, she is one of those up and comers if she chooses that path.

  • elliegrll

As the article states, ticket sales for The Color Purple improved dramatically when Fantasia took over the role of Celie, and fell hard once she left the role. She also won rave reviews for her portrayal of the character, along with criticism from those who didn’t want to see a successful singer take a role away from someone who mainly just worked in the theater.

Singing is Fantasia’s calling, but she also has amazing stage presence that comes from performing in front of people since she was just a little girl. It’s not a surprise that producers would want to hire her.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Fantasia was a recipient of a Theatre World Award for her debut performance in TCP.

(this is for performers who are ineligible for a Tony because they did not create a role in a play or musical)
