American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips, will perform “Home” in a special pre-game, on-field MLB All-Star game performance.  Kellie Pickler is set to sing the America The Beautiful at the 7th inning stretch.  The game airs on FOX tonight.

After the ‘American Idol’ Live tour, they go solo – “If they paid attention to each person’s artistry, then they would know the difference between a lot of us,” Phillips said. “Kris [Allen] is different from David [Cook], David is different from Scotty [McCreery] and I’m different from all of them. I feel like I play the guitar and approach music a lot different than they do. “Season 11′s Colton Dixon, another early favorite, says finalists should take advantage of the show’s massive reach — even with a sizable dip in ratings the finale garnered 21.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen figures. “The year after the show is the most important year. You’ve got to get something out that’s good and current,” he said. “And you also have to stay true to who you were on the show.” – Read more at the LA Times

‘X Factor’ Contestant Butchers Britney Spears’ ‘Crazy’; Judges Storm Off – Auditioning with a Britney hit has become a semi-regular occurance on The X Factor audition tour, which has already hit Austin, San Francisco, Providence, Rhode Island and, on Monday, Greensboro, North Carolina — that’s where one season 2 hopeful “completely butchered” the Spears classic, according to a witness, causing fellow panelists L.A. Jordin Sparks, Jason Derulo Marriage Confession: Is the Young Couple Ready to Tie the Knot? – After rumors of their romance began circulating last September (2011), Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo publicly confirmed their relationship in January. Now, after less than a year together, the young couple has wedding bells ringing in their ears! The 22-year-old “Sparkle” star revealed the subject of marriage is a constant conversation piece between herself and her 22-year-old singer-songwriter beau. Sparks made the marriage confession on New York radio station 92.3 NOW. “If I’m going to be completely honest, [marriage] comes into conversation multiple times a day,” she revealed. “We talk about the future and it’s not a conversation that scares us,” she added. – Read more at AOLMusic.com

O. Perry Walker band members enjoyed encounter with singing star Fantasia Barrino – Members of the O. Perry Walker High School band reveled in a brush with celebrity over the last week, rehearsing and then performing with singing and acting star Fantasia Barrino. The Algiers band performed with the American Idol and Grammy winner at Essence Fest Sunday night. On Friday the star appeared at the school with a small entourage for a rehearsal. A statement from the Algiers Charter Schools Association described the students’ star-struck reaction through a comment from band director Wilbert Rollins. “You’ve got them shell-shocked,” he said during the performer’s visit, gesturing toward the trumpet section. “Look at this child. He’s gone. His mind is gone because he sees some he’s listened to on the radio, seen on videos and now he’s playing with them.” – Read more at NOLA.com

The Voice alum, The Sheilds Brothers, Sign to Potomac Records – Remember those kids, The Shields Brothers, from The Voice? They’ve been signed to a record deal by Potomac Records. Twenty-somethings Tristan and Rory were recently featured on NBC’s “The Voice” with judges including big name acts like pop diva Christina Aguilera and soulful Cee Lo Green. The brothers gained attention for their high-energy performance and interesting catch phrase about how they were going to “punchAmericain the face with Rock ’n’ Roll.” See some photos HERE.

Smash Shakeup: Megan Hilty Excited but “Sad to Not See Old Friends” – The cast and crew are getting together tomorrow for the first table read of season two. “It feels like it’s going to be the first day of school,” star Megan Hilty told me earlier today. “I’m going to pack my little lunch, lay out my clothes tonight, put a little name tag on. I have no idea what’s going to happen, but I’m so excited. There are so many new faces.” One of those news ones also happens to be Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who has signed on for a multi-episode guest-starring gig. “It will be awesome if we get to duet it out,” Hilty said, laughing. “I’m wondering if our characters get along or if she’s yet another person that I find intimidating and going to battle with, too.”

    She just walked over to her fiance’s table for a second for some reason. I think the other judges (sans Simon) followed her for a second. So I have no clue what was going on.

    Found the LA Times article very interesting…basic point is show who you are during the show and stick to it after the show.  Plus, P2 saying that he’s trying to write the best songs, not be a chart topper? 

    On a different note, I just thought this juxtaposition was funny…the article compares Slash and Scotty since they are the two biggest names coming to this venue:))

    It’ll be interesting to see if FOX airs Phillip’s performance. They should, but you never know with them — the pre-game tends to be a lot of chit-chat between the anchor and the analysts, so it may depend on how close to gametime the performance is scheduled for

    I saw a commercial during Hell’s Kitchen last night specifically plugging Phillip’s performance of Home on the All Star pre-game show (and not even the game itself).  I would take that as a sign that it will be televised.

    I wasn’t paying attention to the dates and I just realized that the game will pre-empt Hell’s Kitchen and Master Chef and now I’m kind of pissed, haha. I hate baseball.

    He never said that he was better….just that he approached playing the guitar in a different manner & that he just doesn’t like strumming chords.  I agree that so far he hasn’t done any songs that would allow that to be highlighted.  But, I would say that on several ocassions Casey Abrams has said that he is a talented musician and that he enjoyed playing with him….and since Casey is an accomplished musician…I will take his word for it.

     X Factory means business, haha. Now we just need Melanie, Josh and Astro to drop something. I’m so looking forward to releases on X Factor acts it’s not even funny. Chris Rene’s singles were both released to iTunes Slovenia, hopefully the others follow suit.

    Jessica is AI’s only hope for Top 40 play.  MAYBE Colton if he can cross over.

    Top 40 isn’t likely to be interested in Colton’s Christian-type  music

    Marcus’ new single is good. I can’t think of too many recent Idol contestants that wouldn’t come off as totally contrived if they tried to perform that song, though. Maybe Anoop? Maybe Jessica if the lyrics aren’t gender specific?

    I think they’ll show it, since it’s not an ordinary performance.  Not to cheapen what’s going to happen, but MLB has always been a step behind the other major sports when it comes to showing that they want to give back to the public, so Phillip singing Home, while a video honoring those effected by the tornado in Joplin, is their way of trying to build up a better public service image.

    It’s highly unlikely that Marcus will get airplay from Rhythmic or Top 40 stations.  The only way that they’d pay attention to him is if he collaborates with a more mainstream artist.   It’s more like he’ll be spun by Urban and some Urban AC, and in the case of Urban AC,  that’s pretty much like getting played on Hot AC.

    Demetra Malalan, winner of X Factor Slovenia released her debut single a week after she won. She won on Sunday night and the next day she started with interviews. A week later, on a Monday, her single was premiered on the internet. It was written by a pretty popular Slovenian singer-songwriter.

    And Alma Merklin, girl who was eliminated a week before the finale in 4th place, had her single released even faster, lol. Her song was also written by a well known Slovenian songwriter.

    In&Out, manufactured boyband that finished 3rd, are also recording and doing concerts.

    I haven’t hear anything about what that awful guy that finished 2nd is now up to.

    It looks to me young female singers are sought after here in Slovenia.

    Female singers won both seasons of Slovenia’s got Talent. The first is still a child, but she did release an album. And the second one sings pop opera. She also released an album. Runner-up of SGT season 1 is also a female singer in late teens/early twenties. She is a powerhouse and we sent her to Eurovision last year. We could say she is more popular than the winner of her season now.

    The finals of Mission Eurovision show this year had 1 male singer and 8 female acts (7 soloists, 1 duo). Male singer was the first one eliminated and he was actually a pro, not completely unknown singer.
    I think TOP 3 are all recording something.

    Before that, we had another singing show, battle of talents. Season 1 had a lot of talent. TOP 2 were male and we sent them to Eurovision in two consecutive years and #3 (female) is sent to Eurovision every year as a back-up singer and is also very talented.

    In season 2 and 3 only TOP 2 were really good and all four singers were female. Winner of season 2 is from my area and we went to the same primary and secondary school together, she is a year younger then me. She is a popular pop singer. Season 2 runner up now studies jazz music and I guess she will have a career in that area. Season 3 TOP 2 both sing.

    So yeah, we have a lot of talent from these shows, mostly female.

    What do you call Wale?  I don’t know about where you live, but this song fits perfectly on my local Rhythmic and Top 40 stations here in Los Angeles.
