First Peek At ‘The Secret Life Of Bees’ With Jennifer Hudson

While she may have had a small but pivotal role in this summer’s blockbuster hit ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’, Jennifer Hudson will have a bigger role in her next film, ‘The Secret Life Of Bees’, which will pair her with Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Sophie Okonedo.

Set in South Carolina in 1964, story centers on Lily Owens (Fanning), who escapes her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father by running away with her caregiver and only friend (Hudson) to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother’s past.Latifah, Okonedo and Keys play the three sisters.

Cook’s average day now lasts from about 7 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. with a packed schedule of interviews, rehearsals, song writing and studio work, and performances. As he’s describing this, he lets out a giant, audible yawn over the phone. He is beyond tired.

“I had to schedule that, so ” Cook jokes. “I would almost be willing to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a nap.”

The work, he sees as fun. The celebrity stuff is weirding him out a bit.

“It’s weird, because it sounds so cliche, but it’s really the truth à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  I got into music to play music, so the whole celebrity aspect of it à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  I can see the absurdity,” he says. “If it’s what I’ve got to do to allow me to play music, then so be it.”

Underwood Concert a Huge Success for Ford Park

The near record sold out crowd for the Carrie Underwood concert Saturday night is a huge success for operators of Ford Park.

Carrie underwood took the stage just before nine tonight. Some country music fans traveled a pretty good distance to see the American Idol winner . The concert was not only good for Ford Arena, it also turned out good for southeast Texas hotels, restaurants, and other businesses.

Underwood overwhelms crowd at Ford Park

BEAUMONT – With video screens behind her flashing images of a desert sunrise, Carrie Underwood rose from below-stage and burst into her opening number, “Flat on the Floor,” amid the wildly cheering crowd in the nearly packed Ford Arena.

Dressed all in black with thigh-high boots and a rhinestone-studded belt, she owned the stage.

Southeast Texas gave her its warmest welcome.

Underwood appeared to notice.

“You guys are a lively bunch,” she observed between songs, adding she thought she had the best seat in the house.

Underneath the big voice of Jordin lies spark of a real teen, growing up

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget Jordin Sparks is only 18 years old.

She has the big, powerful voice and poise under pressure of singers twice à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  maybe three times à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  her age. She has a natural ease at being onstage, at being in the spotlight.

Like backstage at Nassau Coliseum last summer, when she was bouncing around with Sanjaya Malakar, giggling like, well, the schoolgirl she was. Talk to her about real life à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  like wanting to go to her prom or struggling to keep her room clean à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  and the teenager comes out.

It’s a mix that even fits her current tour of arenas, her first without her “American Idol” pals, opening for Alicia Keys à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  an idea that couldn’t have even been a dream 18 months ago.

“When they told me that I was going with her, my jaw just dropped to the floor,” Sparks says. “I was like, seriously? Really?

Next up: American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks who just released her new hit single “No Air”.

Atlantis LIVE performances are for Atlantis guests in an intimate setting of about 1000 people.

Jordin Sparks will perform July 25th.

Fly Summer Jam sizzles with fun

Curiously enough, Sum 41à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s snotty punk rock was wedged between two American Idol alums, Blake Lewis and Ace Young. Lewis was the real surprise here, beat-boxing and singing with real skill.

Unfortunately, he was cut off after just three songs, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“1,000 Milesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  being the strongest of the batch.

    This is probably a minority position on this view on something about American Idol. IMO I think the winner should just be consentrating on the tour and other PR related stuff like interviews, appearancese extra.. He/she can work on the cd after the tour and yes I know they want to strike while the iron is hot. Maybe they can release a few original songs to tide the fans over .Just the Idol winners seem soo tired .

    Blake announced yesterday in a radio interview that he was dropped from Arista. The curse of #2 but this is unusually quick. I guess he’s still being managed by 19 (dont’ know) but I’m not quite sure where the career goes from here.

    Yes – they are tired – but this is business – and strike while the iron is hot is important. Public memory is short and the fans are fickle. Daughtry is the prime example of what happens when you get the album out right away when the memory is fresh. He worked on his album during the tour too.

    If an album isn’t out soon enough – DC will be defined by the magic rainbow song – and covers of other artists. Luckily he has a back catalog and and song writing skills. However, the album should not be so rushed that it’s quality suffers.

    I agree. Amazing book. Which makes me worry about the casting choices. We shall see how it all takes shape. Both Oprah and Whoopie were stunningly good in Spielberg’s “The Color Purple”, but not the ones I pictured in those parts originally.

    Here is hoping this movie will do justice to the gentle nature and strong core of the central characters in this story.

    More surprises in store for this season of ‘Canadian Idol,’ say producers

    “There’s a rule at ‘Canadian Idol,’ and the rule is, there are no rules,” executive producer John Brunton said in an interview.

    “One of the aspects of the format is that the format has got to keep changing. I don’t know if they feel that way in the States or anywhere else, but they certainly watch what we do and often copy what we do.”

    The changes to the hit talent show began even before this sixth season started airing, when producers announced that for the first time, hopefuls would be allowed to submit audition videos online.

    Then last week, when viewers tuned in to see who would make it to the standard Top 22 semifinal group of 11 guys and 11 girls, there were two big surprises: the group was expanded to 24 due to the high calibre of talent, and it had an uneven gender split – 15 guys and nine girls.

    What’s more, producers are breaking from the traditional format of having men perform one night and women on another. Instead, both male and female singers will take to the stage on the same night – 12 on Monday and 12 on Tuesday – on CTV.

    Viewers won’t know who is performing on what night and, in the results show on Wednesdays, more than two contestants may get the boot…

    The National Ledger sure needs a proof-reader. That article is loaded with type-o’s. Why do I want Jessica to fail? Dunno much about her other than I think she’s a media whore, but that’s Papa Joe’s fault. Ever since I heard him talking about admiring his own daughter’s boobs on national TV, I’ve had no respect for them at all. Creepie and a disgrace.

    Can’t wait for the Secret Life of Bee’s… great book. Hopefully they do a good job moving it to the big screen.

    “How absurd is that, honestly?” he says. “It’s a bit unnerving. I mean, I’m honored and very appreciative. But I think if you ask my friends to describe me I don’t know à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  I’m a goober, man. I’m a ham.”

    I don’t really know if you can get much more humility out of this guy. LOL.
