Congrats to David A for getting his song Elevator on that Samsung commercial in South Korea. Since Elevator is one of the songs he wrote, that’s some easy money for him.  The girl in the commercial is the 2010 Olympic figure skating gold medallist Yuna Kim.  She’s the first South Korean woman to ever win a figure skating medal in the Olympics.  She is super popular in South Korea.  How popular?  Think  Jessica Sanchez’s popularity in the Philippines times 1000.

Love how David Archuleta is doing so well even though he is away. Seems he has good management now. Hoping the U.S. will give him all the recognition here when he returns. He has left his fans many albums to keep him near to our hearts. His new album BEGIN. will be out August 7.

He’s getting PAID, lol… getting your music licensed to be used in commercials and such is a great source of additional revenue. Smart, very smart.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

I kinda like the vibe Constantine is pulling off.   Think he on the right track.

I am so in love with his new single, Heart Skips A Beat! But I prefer the original version to the one they did for the US.

  • revcat

Comstantine has a degree in theater arts and an Emmy nom for ROA under his belt. I saw him in the play and he was great, acting & singing superb. From what I understand JAH has been revamped from the original version. Also, Jeff Calhoun is the director which is a big deal. Calhoun just won a Tony for Newsies. Its going on the road first, so don’t think its a done deal that it will be Broadway bound. We’ll see; luckily for Connie his haters aren’t necessarily theatre goers :)

ETA: I thought I fixed that, it’s Tony, not Emmy *slaps self on forehead* duh!

Love to hear Davids elevator music in commercials.  David will not be forgotten even if he is away.  He made sure of that.  Hurry home David, your fans are waiting. His BEGIN. album will be out Aug 7th.  Much more to come.

I’ve always liked David Hernandez and thought he was eliminated too early. Its great to read that he’s still active in music and doing what he loves.

Unfortunately I missed Constantine performing in  Rock of Ages. But I hope to have the
opportunity to see him in JaH. Remembering Constantine on Idol, he has that something
special that draws you in; engages you to watch his performance. His personality shines
through….I’m looking forward to seeing Constantine perform this double role, in what I’ve
read is a dark interpretation of the play. Yes, this is Constantine’s role. I’m Greek also,
and glad that Constantine represents! And of course, my opinion is totally objective!!

  • mgoldenerrc

Constantine was nominated for a Best Actor Tony Award for his role in Rock of Ages and he had the lead both on Broadway and in the road company. It’s terrific that he has such a great acting and singing career without relying on 19 Entertainment or RCA. The pop music market is hard to break into and he has a much more reliable career as a Broadway star.

Actually Broadway IS a done deal :)  Right after the national tour wraps up J & H is opening at the La Mirada theatre (supposedly opening night will be sometime in April 2013). ITA though that this is a huge deal because of the buzz Jeff has with Newsies right now. All the theater press that has written about this has really hyped up his involvement and I notice most articles refer to Constantine as “Tony nominated”. Always a good thing to have to your name.

Wow! David’s gone and he still has things going on! He doesn’t miss a beat! Kuddos to him and his work ethic!

“Actually Broadway IS a done deal :)  Right after the national tour
wraps up J & H is opening at the La Mirada theatre (supposedly
opening night will be sometime in April 2013).”

Well, it’s probably closer to a done deal than most, but as far as I know, Broadway’s *never* a done deal. I know of several musicals that were said to have arrangements that sounded very similar to this; had major, named backers apparently highly committed from the beginning; had the theater and the opening date all lined up, but that never got to Broadway in the end.

You really have to prove something during that tour, I think — prove several things, really — or you can lose your backers at the very last ditch. Probably you can lose them when you’re halfway over the last ditch, really….. And sometimes you can lose your backers at the end even if you *do* prove something, if your backers have some financial reverses or something and don’t quite have full faith.

I’m really interested in seeing this if I can. I’ve heard the music (although I thought it was mostly kind of so so …. ) but I haven’t seen the play so I don’t know quite what they do with what, to me, seems like a pretty darned problematic story for a musical. It’s been revamped in the past a time or two, and has had pretty huge names involved on the writing end from the beginning, of course. I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of it, because the extreme negativity and bleakness of the story — combined with the focus on just a handful of important characters — makes it pretty out there for a musical. But, in the past, the play itself — not the performances — has gotten meh-to-bad reviews, for the most part, and I think they’ve probably been deserved. This strange a story strikes me as more suitable to a more avant garde musical, and not really very Frank-Wildhorny-Leslie-Bricusshish kinda old-fashioned musical-ly. But a lot of musicals go through endless retooling, and maybe they got it right this time.

I’m happy for Constantine having this career. Great that he can use the talents and skills that he has and that he’s building a strong reputation. Given the nature of this, they’re obviously depending on his performance as a very major selling point, which really speaks well for him, I’d say. I’m going to try to see it, if I can.

“IDK, the whole idea sounds kinda trainwrecky – KWIM?”

I do, but if this really happens, then it could be funny trainwrecky.  ;)

  • revcat

The quote regarding Jekyl and Hyde heading to Broadway for sure cites La Mirada which indeed it will play, but that theatre is in California. In my opinion usedtobelucy is spot on.

  • mmb

I saw Jekyll & Hyde on broadway years ago and its an ok show…not great, not terrible…the high point of the score and the show, by far is This Is the Moment….that is a true blue Broadway goosebumpy song.  The rest is just OK.  It is very much a star-driven vehicle, so if the lead actor is good, the show is enjoyable — if not, not so much.  I actually think that Constantine is a no-brainer perfect choice for the revival.  Should be interesting
