Slash repeated what he said about Adam & AI in a radio interview couple of years ago:

This is reminiscent of Queen guitarist Brian May, who wants to play, but no singer took a long time.  With Adam Lambert Queen now take a party from a talent show on tour. Had this been an option?

You will laugh: Adam Lambert is the only reason I ever watched “American Idol” and even participated in a series as a mentor.  I wanted to meet him as well . He is talented, unique. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.fr-online.de/leute/gitarrist-slash–mich-faszinieren-finstere-tiere-,9548600,16341188.html

singing the NA doesn’t really do much to jump start a performer’s career. If it did, wouldn’t the people who sang the NA on a regular basis for teams (and there are a LOT of people who have steady gigs singing the NA for specific teams) have big-time music careers?

It’s exposure for Jessica, and that’s always a good thing, but there have been a ton of Idols who have sung the NA on national tv multiple times and most of those people did not end up with huge record sales.

Other major U.S. mainstream media that have picked up Carrie’s comments in support of gay marriage from the Independent article:

So far, all of the media I’ve seen have picked up quotes from The Independent article, and there are no new comments from Carrie about this.

I’ve read some comments on the “Taste of Country” report of Carries’ support of gay marriage, and there’s quite a backlash from Christian fundamentalists posted there. I’m wondering if this will become a bigger story. I thought that this part of the article was interesting:

    Recently, Chely Wright
called for a country music superstar to step up and support her
decision to come out and gay marriage. “I need a country artist who is a
big deal, like Jay-Z in his community — he came forward and said, ‘I believe in equality for all,’” Wright told CBS’s ‘This Morning.’

It looks like Underwood has answered that call.

Yay for Josh on making the list!!

  • dabney c

Yeah, I was so surprised! Wasn’t expecting Josh to be one of their top 10 in the last 10 years.  YaY! He deserves it.

This list was split about 50/50 winners/non-winners of IDOL.  I would have included some others, but then it would have been a top 20.

Edit: LOL about season 9! I can’t think of a single performance that stood out!

  • fuzzywuzzy

No one from season 7 represented on that list either.

And it seems that, with the exception of Ledet and Fantasia [<= added], all the picks are promoting an album right now. (Sparks has the Sparkle soundtrack, and Hudson's on a soundtrack, too.) Quite the coincidence, that.

(I do actually think the picks are justifiable, though I could find reasons to add a few who aren't in album-promotion right now. But then it'd be closer to a top 15.)

  • babyspock

All the WGWG winners got left off the list.  Like someone said earlier Taylor Hicks was really a WGWG.

  • Anonymous

    Daughtry is on the list.

  • babyspock

     Daughtry also did not win.

  • Anonymous

You are right…my bad.  I consider a winner.

  • TheOther

Where are you Phillip? Jessica is on TV every week after idol finale. Lol

What he’s been doing is getting radio airplay, selling his music and showing TPTB that he can make them money.   He’s also started work on the early stages of his album.

He’s also the latest Idol to chart a #1 song on Billboard. That came just after 2 weeks of winning.

  • Chris

Yeah, its not likely she’s going to sway any votes to support gay marriage, but a number of posts that they are disappointed in her, she can’t be Christian if she doesn’t follow the bible.

I hate to be a marketing person, but I am, serious controversy is not what she wants still at this stage of the CD kick off and pre-tour.  A little controversy sure, as they say any press is good press.  But not to the point that they turn on you like the Dixie Chicks.  So far, they are just being blow hards.  Not sure if it really impacts her sales.

Lol, glad you put “true artists” in quotes, got a good chuckle :)

Wow, I love Joshua. I hope he gets signed and makes a great album, although I think I’ll need to see him live for the full Joshua-effect. He’s fantastic.

  • windmills

It’s hard to tell how many of the “disappointed” were actually fans in the 1st place (certain sites have been known to organize little internet campaigns), but yeah, looking at Carrie’s Twitter mentions as the news has been picked up everywhere (People, Us Weekly, Extra, HuffPo, Washington Post, all the country sites, USA Today, all the gossip blogs, plenty of LGBT sites), she is definitely getting some lectures from people informing her she is not a true Christian/needs to read the Bible/let fame come before her relationship with Christ. I don’t think Carrie reads her mentions (I believe her team does though). Her husband Mike is getting a few too but mostly from 2 weirdos. Carrie’s also getting plenty of thank yous.

I don’t really know how it’ll shake out in the long run but, I feel like the people who are commenting are the ones who already made up their minds one way or the other. The people who are in the middle or end up thinking about this issue aren’t going to say anything right away and those were the people Carrie was more likely trying to reach.

I agree that adding instruments and putting on big production numbers greatly changed Idol, and imo, not for the better. Before these changes you were supposed to hear what raw talent sounds like. Altho I am not a fan of Adam’s OTT style, the fact that he didn’t play an instrument showed off his voice.

  • Anonymous

apparently he hasn’t won, although I’ve seen from several people that he was announced as the winner, but the voting has been extended.

  • Anonymous

I didn’t think Joshua sounded current at all, even when singing Runaway he still sounded as if he was from the 60′s.

  • Anonymous

That’s because the song has a retro vibe…check out Bruno Mars’ performance.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Right now, I don’t see a huge backlash to Carrie’s comments, but I’m not sure what will happen from here on. Especially in an election year, where gay rights are a pretty prominent issue and there’s a clear divide between the President and Romney, this story could have legs.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree.  I think that there are a lot of supporters who may be a bit surprised by Carrie’s stance on gay marriage, but I don’t see them expressing what they are feeling, and they may never do so, but just continue to support her or not quietly, without any fanfare. It’s mostly the people who have already made up their minds on either “side” who are discussing/arguing about this issue at this point.
