10 Years Ago Today, “American Idol” Debuted…and Changed Music Forever – Read a retrospective of the last 10 years of American Idol from ABC News Radio – Imagine a world where Kelly Clarkson isn’t a worldwide pop icon, but a struggling cocktail waitress. Or a world in which Carrie Underwood isn’t a country music superstar, but a journalism student in Oklahoma. Or a world where Ryan Seacrest is an unknown deejay, and Simon Cowell is just a record executive in England. That’s what could’ve happened — if, ten years ago today, American Idol hadn’t debuted on Fox as a summer replacement series. – Read more at ABC News Radio

Expect a full-length album out in early 2013. We’re in the process of negotiating labels and trying to find the best place for me. There are a lot of opportunities…[the album] It will again cross genres: country, Christian, rock. Britney Spears Is an ‘Incredibly Tough’ X Factor Judge – “Sources” SWEAR Britney Spears is a “tough” judge. (That’s not what local press said, which is probably why Britney’s people probably leaked the story) – “She’s got a really good instinct, and when she loves something, she looks like she wants to dance on the desk,” a source tells PEOPLE. “When she doesn’t like someone, she is incredibly tough.” Her tough side came out over the weekend, when she told one disappointed singer, “You have to be great to be on this show, so [I vote] no.” – Read more at People

Adam Lambert still being unmarried, even though not single anymore…he can still get weird questions like “first kiss with tongue”… I wonder whether they ask that type of questions to married Kris Allen.

Tweeted about 7 hours ago by an NBA fan:

Reportedly, Jessica Sanchez (American Idol runner-up) will sing the National Anthem for Game 1 and Kelly Clarkson will sing it for Game 2.

Lol, being married might play a part in it, but I think it’s got more to do with the type of persons they are and the vibe they give off that can encourage an interviewer to ask those ‘weird’ questions. Especially if interviewers do their homework. If you’ve got a song like “Shady” or “For Your Entertainment” in your repertoire and you made national headlines by kissing a person on stage and you tend to touch yourself during a concert, a question like “first kiss with a tongue” is about as ‘weird’ as “what’s your spirit animal”. I think Adam would get asked this type of questions even if he and Sauli were married, he just comes across as a person with few inhibitions and for whom talking about sex isn’t much of a taboo. The interviewer seems to get where the limits lay, Adam just took that question in stride and he’s good at deflecting when he deems a question too intrusive and doesn’t want to answer.

A good Christian boy next-door just doesn’t encourage this type of questions, I suppose, interviewers possibly assuming they’re not going to get an answer or the answer isn’t going to be particularly interesting. If the interviewers do they homework they know that Kris has married his high-school sweetheart so he’s not going to have plenty of pre-Katy experience and yeah, a bit awkward to ask about intimate details of someone’s current relationship. It’s not like interviewers ask Adam whether he or Sauli top more often either. Adam just seems to have more colorful experience so he gets asked about it.

Wow, looks like I’m in a mood for teal deer today, sorry about that.

Ehm ehm, just obliged to point out that it’s not Kiev but Kharkhov, so not the same place where Elton and Queen+Adam are going to play. Still Ukraine though. This time, the concert is going to have a more varied audience in terms of nationalities, though, because there are going to be thousands of international football fans getting pumped up for the Euro Cup final. I can’t wait to see it on my TV!

  • Moria Polonius

I’m so jealous of all those concerts Adam does in the US.  Queen+Adam is my consolation prize, but I so would love to hear Adam’s music live too.

AO is, and has always been, the WORST at keeping an events calendar.  I’ve never understood it — its his official site, yet they rarely post all of his appearances, or they get posted they day before or sometimes even after they occur..they post wrong dates, they post stuff and then remove it.  Its insane. Right now I think there are 7 or 8 appearances that aren’t up on the site, and there is a completely wrong date for his OC fair concert (like both the month and day are wrong).  Its so bad its laughable.  But at least the site re-design looks good……

It’s not just AO but it seems all the RCA sites including KAO & previously DCO were slow also.  It became much worse after the RCA/JLG merger when they consolidated the teams running the sites.

Summerslam is August 19th at the Staples Center in LA.
I think it’s a pretty safe bet it’s James performing.

“Wow, a Label choosing a single that I agree with? Wonders never cease.

James’ format, the one his label aims the song/his music to be played, is pretty competitive for that rock type(hopefully it would go on HAC too), with well established bands/acts. A band that I follow for some years is played also there, the guys are back for a second tour-leg and festivals and because with the first tour they were pretty successful, they have decided, with their label, to send to radio a song that is a fan-darling, not a song from their last and most successful album, but an older one and better received by their fans and it is on top-chart now, nobody has cared about “old”, or “must be” but the “it”-factor song through the fans. I would like DC to find a more relaxed way to reach some new ears out of stressful pop and HAC formats.

Listen up, everybody! In honor of “American Idol’s” 10th birthday, here is a list of all the seasons, ranked in order of power based on how many contestants from each season charted on Billboard. I have already posted a similar list before, but this has been updated to yesterday.
1st place: Season 5 (nine charting finalists)
2nd place: Season 3 (eight charting finalists)
3rd place: Seasons 6, 7, and 10 (tie; seven charting finalists each)
4th place: Season 8 (six charting finalists)
5th place: Seasons 1 and 2 (tie; five charting finalists each)
6th place: Season 9 (four charting finalists)
7th place: Season 4 (three charting finalists; four if you count Mario Vasquez, who was voted into the Top 12 but then dropped out)
8th place: Season 11 (two charting finalists, but I have a feeling there will be plenty of other success stories from this season)
They say winning isn’t everything, but it sure helps. Every single winner and runner-up in the show’s history has made the Billboard chart.
Also, fronting a band can be a good move sometimes: three Idol alums charted with bands (Chris Daughtry with Daughtry, Carly Smithson with We Are The Fallen, and Paul McDonald with The Grand Magnolias).

Season 3: Fantasia, Diana DeGarmo, Jasmine Trias, LaToya London, George Huff, John Stevens, Jennifer Hudson, Leah LaBelle
Season 6: Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Chris Richardson, Phil Stacey, Chris Sligh
Season 7: David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns
Season 10: Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart, James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Paul McDonald, Pia Toscano
Season 8: Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta, Matt Giraud, Michael Sarver
Season 1: Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Tamyra Gray, RJ Helton, Jim Verraros
Season 2: Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberly Locke, Josh Gracin, Kimberly Caldwell
Season 9: Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Michael Lynche

Surprised by anybody? Shocked not to see someone?
