Mj or anyone who knows?
can the other contestants hire a person or bring in another person to pick their songs, arrange them, etc like david's father or are the contestants supposed to do this themselves? would this hired/family member/whoever be allowed backstage to actually work with the band and vocal coach like JA does?

I was curious about what JA did for a living. This article from 2001 says he runs his own computer and technical equipment business from his home while his wife home schooled their five children. Sounds to me like he can make his own hours. If they will let him go on tour, I'll bet he does.

Seraphina, that work ethnic of Ryan's is what Dick Clark and Larry King admire. Kind of reminds them of their younger days. Both have implied this with admiration for him. Depression, anorexia, and autism have been important talk show topics for LK. Ryan will be expanding his horizons.

MJ, it is so nice to visit your blog and read such intelligent posts! We do appreciate all you do!

Happy Mothers Day for the Moms. :clap_tb:

He has producer credit on the E! show, so maybe not.

I bet the morning radio show will be the first to go.

Sorry, MJ, I missed your reply. Didn't realize he's a producer. Sounds very likely then if anything were to go, it could well be the radio show. Maybe the rumoured 'talks' really are about 2011. He and Anderson will be competing for the face of CNN. :mrgreen_wp:

I have to say, I'm happy for all of Ryan's successes. It's refreshing to see a nice guy in Hollywood working damn hard to get where they are, and being rewarded for an excellent job.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦or your commentors have!

Great commenters here. yes. :)

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ okay, ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going back to reading more and commenting lessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ much lessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I totally got the points you were making, except at the very end when you appeared to be generalizing about how AI fans were responding to the article. But then you explained that you shortened your post. That's what I meant when I thanked you for clarifying.

So next time...you don't need to edit. :).

MJ - actually, that's why I felt compelled to respond to this article on your blog. I've been amazed how many times I've read an article on AI (from some quite well-respected news outlet), where the author is clearly clueless, and then I've come to your blog and you've written something clear and concise and spot on.

But I guess I'm not one to talk, as I've muddled up my point over 3 posts! :-(

MJ - I agree - the post was so long I took out a paragraph where I said AI posters are usually (much) more insightful than most of the press, as are most bloggers (especially you). Sorry - should have kept it in!

Thanks for clarifying that. :)

What I got for the little article on JA was that he could no longer be backstage. That would encompass the time practicing with the vocal coach and band. It never said to my knowledge that he could not still stay with DA in the apartments. JA can still coach DA in that apt, still help him arrange it before & after. JA's hands will still be working his son on arranging no doubt about that one.

I think JA and DA will still live together there in the apt and practice in that apt. Then DA will go practice with the coach (Byrd I think?) and the band. After the day is done, he can go back to the apts. JA will be in the audience like he always is every week. Only difference I see to this whole thing is the coach/band time. Also he would not be hanging around the other contestants before the show.

I would say the AI fans are à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“more complex than those 60 second soundbitesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as well, yes? If ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s unfair to stereotype the contestants, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s also unfair to stereotype their fans.

MJ - I agree - the post was so long I took out a paragraph where I said AI posters are usually (much) more insightful than most of the press, as are most bloggers (especially you). Sorry - should have kept it in!

My point, to clarify, was more that the article wasn't an unbiased "news" article, but read more like a fan-based post, in the sense of having a preference and sifting the information through that filter.

I've just been amazed at how many erroneous and/or condescending articles are in the press. A recent article mentioned with blithe indifference that DC wore the initials "AC/DC" - when even many non- AI followers know it's just the initials AC and know what it stands for and why DC wears them and know it's not a topic to be blithely indifferent about. And sure enough, in the comments I was pleased to see a number of fans correcting the writer.

i think there is a convergence of several factors. under the law, JA being annoying as hell is hard to overcome due to the chaperoning deal. however, weeks of annoyance can take its toll. JA yelling for instanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦well AI and no one esle can stop a parent from yelling legally. nowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.if he did purposefullu have his son sing a line that broke the lawà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.yup, i can see AI finally having the hook they needed to get him out of the room. no one ever said there was not a replacement chaperone. it is not that AI is saying DA can have no chaperone, just not JA. it could be mom or any other personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦see? But if JA helped break a ruleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦excuse city to finally get his ass kicked to the curb.

second, DA needs to be able to show he can do this without someone else coloiring the picture and connecting the dots.

third, I doubt TPTB want him to win. His market potential stinks. He is a mini Groban, but without the real catch at his ageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and he is about to outgrow the disney potential. while i think we can all agree he is technically proficient, his market potential stinks to high heaven. his future is in elevator music.

so ask yourselfà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦why would AI want an idol to produce who has a limited market potential, cannot be a star in his twenties unless he is MR ELEVATOR MUSIC and comes with the baggage of what sounds like one of the most annoying stage dads of all time. I mean, seriously, he just is not good enough to deal with that that crap too.

this is a business after all people. business is business. and archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' he is bad business.
