What’s behind the dearth of female ‘American Idol’ finalists?

Blame the teenyboppers! “American Idol, ” everyone agrees, has gone to the dollies.

Young women have long been held accountable for pop’s occasional loss of reason, from the bobby sox brigade that first embraced Frank Swoonatra to the hordes afflicted with Bieber Fever. Now this perennial crisis has overtaken “Idol.”

With only two women remaining in the finalists’ pool, critics, fans and even executive producer Ken Warwick have called for a halt to the reign of fast-voting misses and mums, which has thrown the game in favor of anything in three-day stubble.

Chatting With… Randy Jackson!

PH: Now if I were to ask you if you have a favorite or two, are you able to tell me who your favorites are?

RJ: I think that it’s a boy’s year to lose. I think now we’re down to five boys and two girls, so you’ve got to be thinking a boy maybe is going to win. But I think there possibly could be a girl up there with a boy. I think it could still turn into a boy-girl race.

Former contestants perform for a good cause at Fat Fish Blue

That changes this year. On May 2, the “Idol Rejects Tour” kicks off at Fat Fish Blue in Perrysburg. The event will feature performances from three “Idol” contestants who each made a great impression on fans this season, despite being eliminated in the early rounds: Chris Medina, Rob Bolin and Tim Halperin.

“And I said, the girl I was gonna ask to marry me brought her boyfriend here today. And they said, ‘Did she audition?’ I said yeah. And they said, ‘What’s her name?’ And I said, ‘Chelsee Oaks.’

“I go downstairs to fill out paperwork, and I’m sitting next to the cast coordinator. And upstairs calls downstairs to the cast coordinator, and all I hear over the phone was, ‘Call Chelsee Oaks back.’ And I look at Maggie and I said, ‘You guys aren’t seriously gonna call Chelsee Oaks back, are you?’ She looks at me and says, ‘Are you her ex-boyfriend?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ She said, ‘Welcome to TV.’”

David Cook prepares to hit the road but pines for home

“With the first record I did with RCA, we had four and a half months to do that, so there was no way we could delve into this kind of stuff, ” said Cook, 28, during a recent phone interview from Los Angeles. “This time, we just really made sure we took our time and made the right record.”

Cook plans to hit the road in support of the album, “This Loud Morning, ” set to drop June 28. Meantime, he’s pining for the comforts of home, Kauffman Stadium and all the barbecue he can get his guitar-strummin’ hands on.

Steven Tyler the real diva on ‘American Idol’, insiders say

“He’s funny and charming and warm on camera, but as soon as the cameras are off, he turns off as well, ” said my second source.

While a key member of Tyler’s team laughs all this off and claims the music superstar judge is “one and the same — both on and off camera, ” my original source said Tyler is very demanding, and tough on “Idol’’ staffers.

“He was not happy that a towel wasn’t handed him quick enough [while he was sweating on stage] and during a commercial break just grabbed the skirt of a staff member who walked by, pulled her toward him and just wiped his face on her skirt!”

‘DWTS’ eliminated contestant: ‘Judges were harsh’

Karina Smirnoff may have taken an embarrassing spill during Monday’s Dancing with the Stars but the judges were kind and forgiving of her mishap with partner Ralph Macchio. They were far less accepting, however, of the couple who earned the lowest score of the night. For more about this week’s eliminated contestant, head to the jump:Chris Jericho is quick to admit it: He didn’t love the reaction he got after dancing the tango to Journey on Monday (Bruno Tonioli, in particular, compared Jericho to a “lump of granite”). ”The judges were harsh, ” the WWE wrestler told reporters after Tuesday’s elimination show. But he also recognized that it wasn’t his best performance — he and partner Cheryl Burke only earned 22 out of 30 points – which is why he became the fifth dancer to leave the ABC show.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers

Question: There’s buzz that the upcoming Glee death is Emma! Can you please deny or confirm this, because I will cry if it’s true! —Nicole
Ausiello: Save your tears, Nic. Emma’s not croaking, although your question nearly scared the OCD-afflicted character’s alter ego to death. “I’d just like to know why anyone would think it’s Emma, ” inquires a befuddled Jayma Mays. “Does she get into an antibacterial fit and over-antibacterialize herself?! [Laughs] You know, that can kill if you don’t have enough germs in your body — maybe that’s what they’re thinking?” Or maybe, just possibly, they weren’t thinking at all. Just putting that out there.

Question: What can you tell us about the upcoming Glee death? —Katie
Ausiello: The dearly departed is female. And not named Emma.

‘Glee’ Stars Hint at Season Three Plot Twist

“We’re in the honeymoon phase now, ” Darren responded when asked if Kurt and Blaine’s relationship will survive them attending different schools. “They’re together and I think it’s going to be rainbows and sunshine for quite a while then we’ll see what happens in season three. Ryan [Murphy] said if and when they got together that he wanted it to be as flawed and as delicate as anybody’s relationship, so I think we’ll run into that, but we won’t know until next season.”
