Chris Daughtry shares stage with Guilford Co. students – GREENSBORO, N.C. — Hundreds of Guilford County students got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to share the stage with Chris Daughtry Thursday night. Daughtry deliberately took time off from his tour Thursday to fulfill his duties as honorary chairman of “On Stage!” The annual event raises money for arts education in Guilford County Schools. “Luckily it was before we had routed the tour, so we were able to strategically route it so I could only be a few hours away and get here and head back to the next city,” Daughtry said. – Read more at FOX 8

Adam Lambert on the Making of “Trespassing” and the Importance of a Good Cry – We’re one day closer, Glamberts. After nearly three years and more delays than we would have liked, Adam Lambert’s sophomore album, Trespassing, will be released on May 15. Taking control of a majority of the writing duties, Lambert collaborated with some of pop’s biggest names (Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, Dr. Luke, Bonnie McKee) to capture a sound that works well with his newfound funkier sensibility. Popdust caught up with The Glam One, who spoke about the recording process, the perfect activities to accompany his new tracks (hint: crying and partying both make the cut) and which songs we need to request at our local karaoke bar ASAP. Y’know, all the important stuff. - Popdust

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that the network is combining the show’s 20th and 21st installments into one, two-hour episode on Tuesday, May 15. But it’s the first of those two hours — which finds New Directions planning for the annual competition — that is likely to generate the most watercooler chatter. That’s because in the midst of rehearsing their new routine, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) suffers a mild head injury and begins to experience a different — yet oddly familiar — alternate reality. – Read more at TV Line

For any James Durbin fans in the Lubbock Tx. area, the band has just been added to the X-Fest lineup this Saturday with Godsmack, Staind and Halestorm.

Here’s another killer Dio cover from Wed. in Corpus Christi. And Dylan, may I add, with every video that pop’s up, you are impressing me more and more.

Have you seen the videos of the Corpus Christi set? Outstanding!!
Those guys are turning into one kick ass band!

Wonderful Adam interview from Popdust.  What a smart and well educated man he is in his field.  What we often get from young artists is “me and my ” type grammar. From Adam we get “cathartic in a commiserating way” so refreshing.
Album is a work of art.

Kris is being interviewed on Star 94.1 right now. Listen HERE:
    http://www.iheart.com/#/live/253/?autoplay=true

Great interview, love Adam’s thoughtful, intelligent responses. I agree the album is amazing. And there are still four more tracks we don’t know anything about!
FYI, it looks like they released more tickets to the sold out Jimmy Kimmel show. I read somewhere that the venue can expand up to 2000 so they put more tickets out because of demand. I can’t wait for this. This is really the first televised concert with the full band!

  • Anonymous

I wish I was going to that concert, it’s going to fun time for all. Glad to see a lot of interest in his performance.

  • Anonymous

LOVE IT!!! You are right-James was so into the music that he almost missed his cue to sing again. lol. He is taking complete control of that stage. I also love how he changes up his songs for each performance. I especially love his patent rock high notes on this one.

Thanks for posting…don’t know how I completely missed this vid.

Seeing these vids are making me want to see the whole band perform live more and more. The closest they are coming to me here in Jersey is either Baltimore or the upper end of Long Island and I’ve been going back and forth with purchasing tickets since I’d at least want to know they are performing for more than just a couple of songs to justify the long drive (since they are opening in both venues). But the shows are looking too fun to pass up. hmmm

  • newinNM

    Adam always gives good interviews!
Kris looks good and short!  Love seeing pictures of past idol contestants with the current batch, hope all past idol who preform (or just sit in the audience) get time to talk with the kids, they would be a wealth of information for the newbies as they navigate Idol and move on after the summer tour! Why oh why do I always just miss my favorite Idols,  I’m in Vegas MAY 26 and Taylor arrives JUNE 26,  Kelly was in Orlando, 10 miles from my condo on Feb 19, I left on the 13th. sigh :(  Of course I have James, one of my least favorites 7 miles from my house.  I actually considered going but the opening band (Buckcherry) is scary and will probably have ugly scary fan there! (there are LOTS of ugly scary people in my town)  That said I think the concert will do very well, Hard rock/heavy metal and country are big draws.

People who actually know things about the music industry rather than simply opine as I do, is it true that labels often know about not on SoundScan sales that can be counted for certification?  I remember reading here a long while ago that this can be about 10% of know sales.

  • justmefornow

I feel the same way about the drive. (Hi, btw, just changed my name, long story ;)
I’m waiting to see if they add any dates around Philly, like this one in Lubbock at the last minute.
    And what about Dylan? right?
They just keep getting better and better.
    See ya.

I have searched but didn’t see this David Cook interview from Thursday posted. (If it was & I did overlook it I apologize)
    http://mix941fm.cbslocal.com/2012/04/19/david-cook-interview-3/

It’s a very fun interview.  Cookie seems really stoked about his gig coming up this weekend opening for Bon Jovi.

  • Incipit

I didn’t see it here, LJR, so thanks. I liked what was said about the fans by the DJ, and how David said he fought for ten years to try to get that kind of a loyal fanbase.

Also interesting to know there will be a performance in the MIX94.1 Underground Lounge before the appearance with Bon Jovi at the Tiger Jam. Something else to look forward to.

Mark and Mercedes, the DJ’s, really like talking to David, and support his music a lot – especially noticeabe since the 2011 Pet-a-Palooza and the “Rolling in the Deep’ cover made so much buzz for their station – and he is very comfortable talking to them, which makes great interviews. IMO.

  • justshootme

    From Adam’s Popdust interview …

Do you have a favorite karaoke song?
When I used to go to karaoke I used to sing “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus. I used to love singing that song. The other one I would do is “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. And “Open Arms” by Journey, of course.

*cries* Why did no one record this?  Surely someone has this stashed away somewhere.  wth is wrong with people.  *cries some more*

Regarding James on the East Coast – didn’t I read somewhere that he may be adding more shows with Evanescence this summer?  Someone posted something that they found on an Evanescence ticket site that had James listed on some summer shows but I think it was not confirmed.  And I thought one was Philadelphia.  I’ll see if I can find that info. again.

  • Anonymous

GS, that’s you? I’ve been wondering what has happened to you. I gave up MJs for lent and thought maybe you had done the same. ;-)

I hadn’t thought of that! Philly certainly loves its rock so maybe that’s a good possibility. I hope so but then I’ll be pissed if I end up buying tickets for the other venues when I could’ve seen them closer.

And yes, I’m becoming more and more impressed with the band, and Dylan in particular. I just tweeted that I remember James telling us during the Idol stint that he would be unveiling Dylan as his lead guitarist and that he wants to bring back the frontman/lead guitarist combo. They are off to a good start if you ask me.

  • Anonymous

OMG, Thirdtime! That would be freaking fantastic!!! I would absolutely love to see Evanescence too. Thanks for looking!

  • Anonymous

Well I just took a look on the internet and can’t find anything – Evanescence will be in Europe for most of the spring/summer.  No dates have been confirmed for the two of them together again that I can see.  But I thought someone had found something that showed them together later this summer on the east coast.

  • Anonymous

If I see anything I will post here – but I don’t want you to not buy other tickets based on that info.  I’ll keep my eyes & ears open.

Excited about David Archuleta and Kurt Bestor Collaberation.  Another Album in June or July.  Look Forward to hear more from Kurt this Sunday a.m.  Fans are excited about the songs (classic) plus two brand new songs.

Currently Forevermore now available on I tunes Worldwide!!

  • Anonymous

Wish I could see the Kurt Bestor interview on Sunday.  Hopefully someone puts  it on Youtube.  As everyone who works with David, Kurt was smitten.  lol  The people who worked with him on the mini-series are still tweeting about him.  The writer is reading David’s book.  David wrote personal letters to all of the people he worked with.  Who writes personal letters anymore?  I guess David does.

David A.’s Forevermore is still hanging in at #51 on the pop chart on
itunes.  I find that pretty amazing since pretty much all of his fanbase
already purchased copies from other vendors.  I noticed many people
tweeting about the album, so I guess his fans have taken over what a
label might do.  Of course, there will be no banners or site
advertisement of his CD and no TV or radio coverage.  Not bad, though,
for a CD of Philippine covers that was recorded in 4 days.  He has great reviews on itunes.

Nice gig for James Durbin this weekend, those are some heavy hitters in rock:

    X-Fest 9
? With: Godsmack, Staind, Halestorm and Durbin.
    ? When: 5:30 p.m., Saturday.
    ? Where: Lonestar Event Center, 602 E. 19th St.

Isn’t that the same complex where the ex-slaughterhouse dump that Adam performed in on his Glam Nation tour is?  I’m sure it is.  At least it sounds as if James will be performing in the amphitheatre part.  Air conditioning was on the fritz in the pavilion building Adam was in and it was early August.  That tour stop was the biggest mistake Adam’s schedulers made.

Hope they put up the Kurt Bestor interview.  Loved what he had to say
about David Archuleta.  Amazing, a phenom, some haven’t realized and
then the intentional slip of Bridge Over Troubled Water being on this
new album.  David A’s fans have wanted to hear David A cover this song
    for some time.

David A is on his mission and to have his Forevermore OPM album on the
charts here is just incredible.  No promo, itune banners, AI appearances
to give him a push, nothing.  The majority of David A fans bought there
album a month ago and in reading the reviews on itunes, not single bad
one.  It’s great to see people taking a listen, liking and buying.

Gross. It’s one thing if Nigel wants to be in cahoots with them, but now the contestants are being dragged into it? Not cool. >_<

All Nigel is trying to do is to get some buzz going and pretend like this bunch is really interesting. Most of them are really young and the worst thing any of them have done is maybe break curfew once or twice.

No kidding about Dylan, when James announced that he was going be his guitarist (at Durbin Day), I was thinking that was very commendable and loyal of James to select his Santa Cruz buddy for his band but was he going to be good enough for a national stage?  If recent videos are any indication Dylan is more than good enough and I think his bandmates overall are helping open doors for him (as far as acceptance outside of AI).  James’s label has had a couple of stumbles, but James himself is doing everything right, from forming his band to just working his a off and bonding with his fans.  You can tell too that his Idol exerience, tour and show, is really paying off, he seems years ahead in development as a performer.

  • justmefornow

I didn’t know what to think about his choice of Dylan at first also. But he has really impressed me lately. The whole band has impressed me. They are really starting to gel. Imagine how good they’ll be after touring for a few months.

I saw James, Dylan and Blake at one of those acoustic shows, but I’m dying to see the whole band. And I agree, his choice of band mates is going to make a huge difference. I really believe he will be the first real rocker accepted off of Idol.

Here’s video of the entire set from Corpus Christi on Wed, You can plainly see it’s all about the music with James. He lives and breathes it.

Those are very high quality videos, thank you!  Texas knows how to rock.  Metalheads are a tough crowd, but the fact that many of them expressed opinions about MOABD, although mostly negative, they seem to really like James.  They want more.  There are hardcore rock fans on the “Rock on the Range” community boards defending James’ right to be there and that was before he started his so far well-reviewed and sold out tour.

  • Anonymous

Holy crap – that really is a hot video! I’m a huge fan but I’m not one of those, “Oh he is so hot” type of fans. But that was really hot!

Kris Allen Talks ‘Idol’ Return, Taylor Hicks, Remixes & Colton Dixon Elimination

The fact that WindUp let James pick his band, and he chose some kick-ass musicians, was the best move WindUp has made (LMB being the worst move). Those guys have extensive touring experience on the hard rock and metal circuit and it’s showing. James is really getting his groove on. And he knows he has to start on the bottom and work his way up, and earn credibility, and he has repeatedly said he looks forward to earning his way in rock. He knows he will have to win over the naysayers. I’ve heard of some Idols picking bandmates partially based on “their look.” James had a totally different set of criteria – how good they are. Smart choices on the band. They are sounding better at every gig. And I agree with everyone, it turns out Dylan really is a beast on guitar.

  • Anonymous

I’m rather surprised how quickly James seems to be getting accepted (I don’t get the sense that he’s going out of his way to try to gain their acceptance…he’s just doing what he does) even tho MOABD was never meant to be a metal album. I thought it would take a couple years but
I think it has helped tremendously for James to have gotten so many endorsements from many respected metal/hardrock musicians and mag editors. Of course there will always be those whose schtick is to rag every single musician as poseur to maintain their own metal cred…but who cares about them.

Also, from what I’m hearing from the performance videos, James and the band are giving the MOABD songs a much harder edge so I’m sure he’s making believers out of many in the crowd who weren’t quite sure about his music.

LOL! I don’t sound like a very loyal fan, do I? There are peeps that are either flying midway across the country or driving 8 hrs. to see him but I can’t seem to muster the energy or the motivation to drive thru Manhattan on a Friday night (and probably waiting at the Lincoln tunnel for a couple hours).

Ever hear good things come in small packages? That really applies to Kris!

  • Anonymous

I can’t blame you re: traffic on a Friday night in New York. That is why you should go during the morning, get a hotel room for the night, and make a girl’s night out party of it. Well, I guess you could take the hubby and take a break from parenting too. LOL.
I’ve only flown to concerts for one artist whom I don’t like anymore so that kind of burned me out on that. James needs to get somewhere within a driveable distance for me. No more flying out and renting cars, hotel etc for me unless there is another reason for it. But if I can drive I will do it! The one I’m thinking about flying to is in a city where my best friend lives – so it’s a twofer.
I couldn’t be happier with how James and his band are gelling. They are going to have a great summer. Now just come closer to my home guys!! (During Idols live in my city I was in China, so I have never seen James live – whah.) OK enough of my whining – lol.

Funny that, that saying can be applied to so many. Especially those in the entertainment biz.

Haley’s even tinier than him. I’m pretty puny myself so with my luck both are probably taller than me. Kris definitely is. If I happen to meet Haley when she’s wearing heels then I’m doomed.
