American Idol Charging Crew For Craft Services — Exclusive – American Idol is one of the most profitable shows on TV, and RumorFix has learned exclusively that they are charging their crew a nominal fee for craft services. A source close to the production tells RumorFix, “They are charging at least 25 cents if you want anything. You have to hand the money to a lady standing by the table.” We are told this new system was implemented two weeks ago and the crew is furious. “It’s really awful,” our source says, “Idol should be embarrassed.” – Read more at Rumor Fix

Burnell Taylor Wants to Stay True to Himself on American Idol 2013 – You chose Ruben’s song, what lead you to that choice? Did you consider anything else before that? One reason why I picked the song is because I always find myself singing it because it’s so inspirational and then two I just wanted to pay homage to Ruben because I feel like everyone that came before us kind of paved the way for us because if they weren’t there then there would be no American Idol. I just wanted to do something where I could pay homage to somebody. – Read more at Wet Paint

American Idol’s Nicki Minaj: Love Her or Hate Her? – Anyone who tunes into American Idol regularly knows that this season sometimes feels like The Nicki Minaj Show. Among the new blood that’s been injected into the judges panel this season, Minaj is hands down the most polarizing. Keith Urban is the surprisingly astute critic, Mariah Carey is the softie who finds something positive to say about even the most dismal performances, and Nicki is … well, Nicki. She’s unprofessional (showing up late to a job that requires about five hours of her time every week), overdramatic (threatening to walk off the show after Curtis Finch, Jr. was eliminated last week), and often inappropriate in her comments to the singers (too many examples to pick just one). – Read more at TV Guide

Based on the spoilers so far:
Angela Miller is going to be the cheese queen of S12. Lazaro is picking one of my favorite songs. He won’t do it justice but it’s still a good choice.
Candace is going with the safe choice. Not sure about Kree. The song she’s picked is kind of boring. Burrell is another inspirational type singer (boring) and Amber’s choice is a little odd.

  • chillj

I started to get indignant – then realized I have never had an employer who paid for my food.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I was thinking that too, except I thought that Angie’s pick was a good song choice (as long as she doesn’t oversing). It could be a “moment” for her.

  • chillj

Kree’s choice doesn’t sound like a choice to me. If it is, I will be surprised if it turns out to be a good one. Maybe it’s me; I don’t like the Beatles songbook under most circumstances (Including a Beatle singing it). Same with MJ.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Lazaro is picking one of my favorite songs. He won’t do it justice but it’s still a good choice.

It’s one of my favorite songs too. I have this bad feeling that a massacre is on the horizon. lol

If Burnell does a good job, I’ll bet that he has the pimp spot.

Craft services’ food is either sponsored by the crews’ union or paid for by the production company, so FOX’s ratings would have nothing to do with it financially.

Oh dear… I luv me some Lennon & Macca songs… but if this is right its as bad as I thought… lots of ballads and songs already done to death… Let It Be, Yesterday, In My Life, Come Together, With a little help… all done before…

trying to look on the positive… I guess at least Kree and Candace are trying something a little more up-tempo…

Amber in the death slot… and doing She’s leaving home… am omen of her fate?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Do you mean that Kree’s song was foisted on her by Jimmy? lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Nevermind.

  • Xentusk

Well, I’m a HUGE Beatles fans and I’m not that thrilled at the list either, but then again, its a balance between chosing something everyone knows or taking a risk singing a song that is less traveled, and possibly lose votes because the general audience isn’t familiar with it.. Too early, at this stage, to be taking those kinds of risks.
…. Incidently, IMO some of those songs should never be chosen for a ‘singing’ competition, as they were written for Ringo to sing aka ‘Not Vocally Challenging’, so count me as curious how the Idol will change the song into a “Singer’s Song” :P
(Trying not to be ‘spoilery’ ;) )

    okey dokey :)

  • chillj

It did occur to me it might have been foisted on her by someone. Just so out of her “wheelhouse.” But maybe she drew the last straw.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yeah, I was surprised at Kree’s choice too. It seemed really “out there” for her.

    Reminder:

The headlines thread is NOT the place for spoilers. I’ll put up a separate post.

  • standtotheright

I haven’t either, but I also have maybe two meetings a week on average and so I have a lot more flexibility to head around the corner to the CVS if I want a snack.

Phillip Phillips is now a SEXTET!!!

I miss the cello, but there’s so much here to love, I’ll get over it.

Wow. That is really sad that there would be threats of physical violence. So proud of Adam and the Russian fans for not letting this scare them away. Thankfully, everything turned out OK and hopefully they are en route to Helsinki.

I actually had my work pay for my food this weekend, because I had to work on both days (as did everyone in our office) to finish this huge project. :)

But when you work in film or tv, crafts services are a regular perk of the job. The PA’s, grips, camera people, etc. etc. work 10, 12, 16 hour days in a lot of cases. It’s not too much to ask to give these people a freaking free sandwich and bottle of water.

  • Anny_nanny

From Wiki: “The signed artists are Phillip Phillips, Jessica Sanchez, Skylar Laine, Colton Dixon, and Heejun Han.”

There is no links. I know that Wiki can’t believe, can anyone confirm or refute the information? I am interested about Skylar.
