Scotty, Lauren, Dierks, Luke Bryan, Many Others Debut Unreleased Tunes In Nashville Showcase – With Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina, much was made of the idea that their forthcoming sophomore efforts were being made in Music City at leisure, away from the pressure of the post-Idol rush. McCreery was introduced as “finishing his first true Nashville album,” and he said he was determined to “make sure I can write a little bit.” Saying he wanted to “show you what my penmanship is like a little,” he sang the up-tempo “Girl I Gotta See You Tonight,” playing a frustrated beau who gets tired of phone calls and texting and has to rush over to see his gal in the flesh. “Listen for me pulling in the drive,” he sang, sounding just a little bit more sensually fixated than he ever did on his debut. The host said they hadn’t been sure Alaina would make it in time for the noontime show after rushing up to Nashville from Chattanooga, and soon enough, she explained: “I had to take my test for high school graduation today. If I failed, I hope you like my song! – Read more at Rolling Stone

Carrie Underwood – Bobby Bones Show Interview

Magnus raises funds for positive change by channeling Patti Page – Main Street Hyannis got a singing treat this Thursday as American Idol finalist Siobhan Magnus celebrated Patti Page Day and kicked off an anti-bullying fundraising effort with the release of her retro vinyl 45 at Rendezvous Cafe and Puritan Clothing. Yes, a record. The disc –and yes, it is black, round, and played on a turntable –offers Magnus’s rendition of the Cape Cod classic Old Cape Cod on one side and her own anti-bullying rock piece, Pure Inspiration, on the other. For each of the $25 records sold, The Cape & Islands United Way receives 50% which it holds in a fund for regional anti-bullying work. – Read more at Cape Cod Today

Peyton Manning’s touchdown on Bagram – The musical portion of the tour comprised of Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo, of American Idol fame. The couple, incidentally who are engaged to one another, met on Idol’s season 11 and have been touring with USO for the past two years. “To be able to come here and perform for the troops is first and foremost an honor, said DeGarmo. It’s nice to be able to bring a small piece of home here and hopefully help put their troubles behind for just a moment.” – Read more at dvidshub.net

Terry McDermott Gives Amazeballs Performance At Yahoo! Music – “The Voice’s” breakout star Terry McDermott may have placed second on Season 3, but he’s done quite all right for himself since leaving the show–and it all came together organically for him, in a way that never would have happened if he’d been tied to a record label. Just last week, while on a visit to Los Angeles, he got together with his buddy Todd Burman (formerly of Australian band Juke Kartel); the two wrote the power-ballad “Pictures,” put it up on SoundCloud, and the response from Terry’s fans (aka the “McHobbits”) was so overwhelmingly positive, he rushed it to iTunes. And less than five days after the song was recorded–and less than 24 hours after it became available for download–it hit number one on the iTunes rock chart. – See more at Yahoo.com

Lea Michele Talks Finchel Babies! Plus, Jayma Mays Thinks Finn Kiss “Made Sense” – “I had no idea it was coming! [I was] reading the script and I went, ‘What?!’ It was kind of weird,” Mays tells us on the carpet at the PaleyFest event honoring Ryan Murphy. And while most Finchel and Wemma fans would all agree that the kiss was out of the blue and completely uncharacteristic for both Finn and Emma, Mays argues that in TV world, it wasn’t that out of the ordinary. “She was in such a frenzy and I felt like he was doing it because he thought, ‘OK, this is going to help’,” she says. “I feel like it made sense in kind of a crazy Glee sort of way.” – Read more at EOnline

Naya Rivera Talks Quintanna Plot Twist! Plus, Darren Criss on Klaine’s Future – “It’s getting boring,” Criss complained to us. “They’ve broken up, so they’re a broken up couple now.” So are Klaine fans doomed to suffer broken shipper hearts forever or will they get back together? “I hope so! I think that would be the ideal goal but I really hope it doesn’t happen any time soon for the sheer sake of them growing apart from each other and hopefully adding to who they will be together whenever they get back together,” Criss mused. “I think they have some learning to do on their own.” – Read more at EOnline

Jim Cantiello Idol in a Minute

  • elliegrll

As a whole the girls are usually better than the boys.  Probably because 2 to 3 times as many girls as boys audition for AI, so the talent pool is deeper.

Pocket Full of Soul, the Harmonica movie documentary opened in select cities across the country last night to fantastic reviews. The 90 minute film features our very own Season 5 idol winner Taylor Hicks (which was filmed in 2007 in Houston), along with many other harp afficionados, such as Clint Black and John Popper.

Here’s an excerpt about the film:

“Like the harmonica itself, “Pocket Full of Soul” is a compact thing that explodes with life in the hands of Slobin and his partner, filmmaker Marc Lempert. It includes testimony from notable harmonica players such as James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Clint Black, John Popper of the Blues Travelers, the J. Geils Band’s Magic Dick, the Fabulous Thunderbirds’ Kim Wilson and Taylor Hicks. The film also includes great archival footage of harmonica greats, an informational segment on the mechanics of how the instrument works and a valuable history that explains its prevalence. The harmonica is, perhaps, the only thing Abraham Lincoln and David Lee Roth have in common.”

Perhaps they’ve seen the success of the Taylor Hicks residency at the Paris Hotel and Casino and Idol wants to get in the ‘action’, so to speak! lol

“It’s a Wicked Whisper & Racy Rumor, but my sources are nearly 100 percent accurate. I’m hearing rumblings that “American Idol” will create a “winners showcase” for a possible permanent but ever-changing residency show to kick off the opening of The Quad at The Linq, when both become The Q.”

20 Hit Songs Meant For Other Singers

”Adam Lambert’s biggest hit to date could have ended up on “Funhouse” by
P!nk, who co-wrote the track with Max Martin and Shellback before
delivering it to the “American Idol” runner-up. P!nk eventually recorded
her own version of “Whataya Want From Me,” complete with the exact same
arrangement, and placed it on her “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!”
compilation in 2010 — but Lambert’s rafter-reaching vocals still score
the victory in a side-by-side comparison.”

    I wish Randy wouldn’t talk.

I really like Terry’s songs – wish he hadn’t done so much icky American rock on the Voice. It will be interesting to see if he gets an invite back to perform this season if he’s not signed. I’m sure Blake will drag out Raelynn again, ugh.

I’m so happy to read Siobhan is moving forward professionally after the loss of her father. Sometimes getting back into work is good therapy.

I admire anyone who tours with the USO. Volunteering time and talent for the enjoyment of our military is true selflessness. I’m particularly proud when one of the AIers participates. So kudos to Ace and Diana.

She absolutely sounded like a man in that Lion King song.  Never heard a bass voice like that on a woman before.

Springtime Sizzlers: Get Ready For These Rising Release
JESSICA SANCHEZ featuring NE-YO – “Tonight” Interscope Records

We haven’t heard a lot about 17-year-old Sanchez since placing second on last season of American Idol, just losing out to singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips.
Of course, a tour followed the show for several months, but since it’s
been over, the singer has been working on a couple of different project.
She’s signed on to appear in a four episode arc of the television show Glee,
though a character name has not be identified, but her appearances
should be airing in April or May. She’s also been working on original
music for her first full-length album, reportedly a 16-track effort,
which is due this summer. Her runner-up single, “Change Nothing”,
literally changed nothing for her, so she’s gone in a more
dance-driven direction and has been previewing songs like “Fairytale”
and “Jump In” in promotional appearances as of recent. However, her
leadoff single is a song called “Tonight”, which features Ne-Yo. A video is production, directed by Justin Francis, who has been behind recent videos for Carly Rae Jepsen and Trey Songz. Sanchez
also put out a casting notice on social media for backup dancers for
the shoot. Will she and her Blujays set her flying to the top of the
charts? Sanchez has a strong voice, so we’ll see how she does on this
non-ballad. “Tonight” goes to radio by the end of the month.

The boys are so weak this year, that viewers are tuning out in drove.

There is no male contestant on par with previous mid-pack finishers. Anoop Desai and Matt Grand both put this year’s crop to shame. I like Angela and Kree, but not enough to watch an otherwise horrible Idol season.

  • Mateja Praznik

So, the definition of American Idol winner is now white male (preferably playing guitar), either in pop/rock, folk or country genre that has to be mediocre in every way. If there are no suitable contestants of this profile, the season sucks by default.

  • irockhard

LOL hate to break it to you but the majority of people that watch these shows are female. Males, especially those in 18-49 demo, generally wouldn’t be caught dead watching anything on TV besides sports.

I’m not a fan of the WGWG myself but substituting it with “too vanilla for pop” girls and “10+ years out of date R&B crooner” guys (almost none of whom are attractive) is a poor substitute. There were a few interesting contestants in the top 40 and Hollywood but they were cut.

  • Karen C

Actually, I do know some men that watch Idol, mainly though around 40-50, and they prefer the rock and country guys too. Even when I went to the tour, there were a lot of men there.  It’s not just females that like a certain type of artist.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Out of curiosity why Jessica’s fans are calling themselves “Blujays”?

  • Liteasy

The judges made sure there weren’t any attractive WGWG or even WG.  The fireman that was cut was great, and there were a number of other attractive WG’s.  Idol has shot themselves in the foot with this group.

  • annie12120

“So, the definition of American Idol winner is now white male (preferably playing guitar), either in pop/rock, folk or country genre that has to be mediocre in every way.”

There are many who do not find this type mediocre… I’d say its the lack of rock/alternative that many are going to miss this season. Hopefully there is a girl who can bring it in this category – if there is one, she has the best odds IMO
