Idol Headlines for 2/25/14

We’ve got LOTS of TV on tap for you tonight! The American Idol semi-finals begin! Filmed last week in Detroit, The Top 12 boys will perform tonight for YOUR votes, beginning at 8/7c pm on FOX. At 9/8c pm, Empire takes over! What’s up with the Lyon clan this week?

On CBS, It’s a double premiere. At 8/7c PM, Survivor Worlds Apart premieres on CBS in it’s regular time slot. Immediately following at 9:30/8:30c is the new Amazing Race, featuring blind date couples. Amazing Race moves to it’s regular time slot on Friday at 8/7c pm. Steven will be live blogging it all!

New Musical By “American Idol” Finalist Among This Year’s New York Musical Theatre Festival Selections – The 2015 New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) announced the selections for the 2015 Next Link Project, including a piece written by “American Idol” finalist Jon Peter Lewis and his band mate, Ryan Hayes of “The Voice.” The 10 musicals, and three initial invited productions, were announced as part of the 12th edition of the festival, which will take place in July at locations around midtown Manhattan in New York City. – Read more at Playbill.com

Mia Z (Zanotti) of Hyde Park advances on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ – “At first, I was star-struck by Blake,” Mia said in a phone interview with the Valley News Dispatch following the show. “But then I realized I had to go with Pharrell. He is so humble and kind. He is very careful about everything he says, and it is always spot on with what’s going on.” “I definitely wanted to work with Christina,” Mia said. “She’s always remembered her hometown and look where she is now. Today is “Nick Fradiani Day” in East Haven – EAST HAVEN – He has become a prime time player on American Idol and, on Tuesday Feb. 24, at the Momauguin School by Cosey Beach, CT native Nick Fradiani delivered a message to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes at the school. Fradiani has wowed the judges on the hit singing contest, making it to the final 24 contestants in Hollywood. The lunch room at the school was packed with over 150 exuberant kids all holding signs cheering on Fradiani who went to elementary school in East Haven before moving on to Guilford High. The message was delivered via iPhone video and in it, Fradiani said to the students, “I’ve worked so hard for this and it shows you guys that whatever you want to do make sure you go after it.” – Read more at FOXCT.com

Singer from S.D. advancing on ‘Idol’ – Loren Lott woke up Tuesday morning and found herself in the Top 24 finalists of “American Idol” Season XIV. “Yes, it was frustrating,” she said Tuesday in a phone interview from Los Angeles. “I knew but I couldn’t tell anyone, not even my mother. Ole Miss ‘Idol’ contestant faces crucial test – Lumberton native Michael Simeon will appear as one of the top 12 men Wednesday night on “American Idol,” broadcast from the Filmore Detroit Theater. He’ll sing “How am I Supposed to Live Without You,” by Michael Bolton. His performance is crucial because it is the first this season where his fate will be decided by the nation’s voters. The results will be revealed next week. Simeon, 21, said his daily routine consists of polishing his song. “I’ll take the song and practice how I want to sing it and how I want to connect with it. Tyanna Jones of Jacksonville will sing for votes from viewers on Thursday’s ‘American Idol’ – Having survived another crucial round of cuts by the judges on “American Idol,” Jacksonville’s Tyanna Jones will now be singing for votes from viewers as she tries to advance. Jones, a 16-year-old junior at Westside High School, made it to the Top 24 last week on the Fox series. She sang Beyonce’s “Love on Top.” “Many people dream about being in this position,” Jones said Monday in a telephone interview from Los Angeles before going into rehearsal. “I’m really excited and grateful to make it this far, and I hope to continue to do well.” – Read more at Jacksonville.com

From the age of 12, Georgia studied Taylor Swift’s career, cold-emailing Swift’s co-writer Liz Rose, who suggested the aspiring singer visit Nashville. When she finally moved there — after briefly appearing on season 12 of American Idol — she crashed a recording session to ask Paul Worley to mentor her, and worked diligently at winning over publisher Arturo Buenahora, Jr., who eventually signed her to Little Louder Music. “People started taking notice when Arthur started taking notice,” she says. “Arthur just really doesn’t care what people think. Convicted killer sent to X Factor bootcamp – A convicted killer will be sent to bootcamp – but not as penance for his crimes. Masterton’s Shae Brider won the approval of TV3’s X Factor judges in Tuesday night’s episode for his reggae interpretation of Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady and was sent through to bootcamp where he’ll be put to the test – musically. But it was the 29-year-old’s criminal past which really struck a chord with viewers.
