Kelly Clarkson’s New Ring — No, Not That One. The Other One! – He put a ring on it — twice! Kelly Clarkson’s fiancé Brandon Blackstock proposed in December, but her canary yellow diamond engagement ring wasn’t the only dazzler he had in store. For Christmas, Blackstock, 36, surprised Clarkson, 30, with a replica of a ring once owned by Jane Austen. A huge fan of the 19th-century English novelist, Clarkson bought the original ring at an auction in London but has been unable to bring it home. “They claimed it as a national treasure and I can’t take it out of the United Kingdom,” she explains. “Behind my back, Brandon was trying to get that ring out of the country as my engagement ring. He was trying to work with my lawyer and they wouldn’t do it.” – Read more at People Style Watch

Grammys 2013: Kelly Clarkson (and her engagement ring) shine through stage fright – Of all the performers called up during the first two marathon days of Grammy rehearsals, none arrived on stage as visibly nervous as Kelly Clarkson who made no secret that she worried about a one-woman train wreck at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The 30-year-old isn’t fretting about her singing voice (which sounded amazing at Friday rehearsals) or her three Grammy nominations (which include record of the year, perhaps the most coveted trophy in all of music). So what had the American Idol alumnus moaning weakly into the microphone? “I can’t believe you’re making me say all of this,” Clarkson said Friday as she faced a cruel teleprompter with a speech about two of this year’s Grammy lifetime achievement award winners, Carole King and Patti Page. The mighty stage singer, it turns out, turns to jelly as a public speaker. At one point, mocking herself, she let loose with some speed-talking gibberish that sounded like an alien auctioneer. – Read more at Popwatch

‘American Idol’ Scotty McCreery balancing music and education – “That’s why we call it The Weekend Road Trip,” McCreery says in a phone call from his home in Raleigh. “I’m balancing a lot right now, so Monday through Wednesday, I’ll go to class. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we’re going to be hitting the road, getting on the touring circuit. “You know, I’m only this age once — I want to make sure I have those experiences as well as my education. Education’s important. If you have the chance, the opportunity, I think you should capitalize on it. So while I can, I’m doing it.” McCreery says he’s “still putting 110 percent into my music.” He’s also been stealing time to work on a proper sophomore album — “we’re going to be flying back out to Nashville for more recording and stuff” — after a holiday disc, “Christmas With Scotty McCreery,” released in October, also went gold. – Read more at McCall.com
