Kelly Clarkson performs at Mardi Gras ball in 1st major event at Superdome since blackout – NEW ORLEANS — This time, the lights stayed on in the Superdome. The glitzy Mardi Gras Krewe of Endymion rolled its parade and super float through the Superdome on Saturday night and Kelly Clarkson performed amid purple, green and gold lights in the first major event at the venue since the Super Bowl blackout. Clarkson, the first winner of TV’s “American Idol,” was the parade’s celebrity grand marshal. Her hits include “Because of You” and “Since You’ve Been Gone.” She is one of several stars serving as celebrity riders in this year’s Carnival parades. – Read more at Washington Post

Kelly Clarkson’s New Ring — No, Not That One. The Other One! – He put a ring on it — twice! Kelly Clarkson’s fiancé Brandon Blackstock proposed in December, but her canary yellow diamond engagement ring wasn’t the only dazzler he had in store. For Christmas, Blackstock, 36, surprised Clarkson, 30, with a replica of a ring once owned by Jane Austen. A huge fan of the 19th-century English novelist, Clarkson bought the original ring at an auction in London but has been unable to bring it home. “They claimed it as a national treasure and I can’t take it out of the United Kingdom,” she explains. “Behind my back, Brandon was trying to get that ring out of the country as my engagement ring. He was trying to work with my lawyer and they wouldn’t do it.” – Read more at People Style Watch

Grammys 2013: Kelly Clarkson (and her engagement ring) shine through stage fright – Of all the performers called up during the first two marathon days of Grammy rehearsals, none arrived on stage as visibly nervous as Kelly Clarkson who made no secret that she worried about a one-woman train wreck at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The 30-year-old isn’t fretting about her singing voice (which sounded amazing at Friday rehearsals) or her three Grammy nominations (which include record of the year, perhaps the most coveted trophy in all of music). So what had the American Idol alumnus moaning weakly into the microphone? “I can’t believe you’re making me say all of this,” Clarkson said Friday as she faced a cruel teleprompter with a speech about two of this year’s Grammy lifetime achievement award winners, Carole King and Patti Page. The mighty stage singer, it turns out, turns to jelly as a public speaker. At one point, mocking herself, she let loose with some speed-talking gibberish that sounded like an alien auctioneer. – Read more at Popwatch

‘American Idol’ Scotty McCreery balancing music and education – “That’s why we call it The Weekend Road Trip,” McCreery says in a phone call from his home in Raleigh. “I’m balancing a lot right now, so Monday through Wednesday, I’ll go to class. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, we’re going to be hitting the road, getting on the touring circuit. “You know, I’m only this age once — I want to make sure I have those experiences as well as my education. Education’s important. If you have the chance, the opportunity, I think you should capitalize on it. So while I can, I’m doing it.” McCreery says he’s “still putting 110 percent into my music.” He’s also been stealing time to work on a proper sophomore album — “we’re going to be flying back out to Nashville for more recording and stuff” — after a holiday disc, “Christmas With Scotty McCreery,” released in October, also went gold. – Read more at

I know the prognosticators are all about fun and frank ocean, but I just have this feeling that this night could be a big one for Kelly.  She is ten years into her career and having one of the biggest years of her career (yeah, Breakaway sold more than stronger, but stronger spawned her biggest selling single and this era has all the other stuff -the super bowl, snl, the inauguration, etc etc etc).  She appears to be absolutely beloved in the industry and by the media.  She has won before and been nominated a bunch of times – the Grammy folks love her.  I dunno, I just think that this could be Kelly’s night.  We will see.

There was a good amount of surprise in opener Phillip Phillips’ set. Last year’s winner of “American Idol” said he was suffering from a cold, but based on his gruff but smooth vocals and steady acoustic guitar work, you would have never guessed he was sick.
Phillips clearly follows the mold of Dave Matthews, but supported by another acoustic player, cello player and a percussionist slapping beats atop of a cajon, he nevertheless displayed a great deal of talent in his 30-minute Saturday, particularly on his sweeping smash hit “Home,” and on “Thriller” (yes, that “Thriller”), which was imaginatively transformed into a sweet, soulful southern jam.

I hope you’re right.  I would love to see Kelly grab the big prize.  She is so deserving.  Hard-working, always has a smile for everyone.  And you’re right – so far, this has been one heck of a year for her.

playiga says that Phillip’s song is going for adds on HAC and allaccess has it on Triple A and not the other way around for both sites. Do you understand that ?

Phillip’s song, “Gone, Gone, Gone” is the background music for an ad for a new show, “Ready For Love”, on NBC. I also heard it playing at the US Gymnastics Championships a couple of weeks ago.

Errol Cooney is a very good guitar player, I would not dispute that – I like his work…but Clapton? Good grief, No.

Listen to one of Clapton’s live performances, this particular cut usually gets an extended solo, since the 24 Nights set from Albert Hall it’s almost a tradition…so there are plenty of examples out there.

    Just an Opinion.

  • tucker davis

Someone’s got way too much time on their hands….lol   But it was funny!  I thought ‘why is P2 playing guitar with his left hand; then realized everything is backwards…lol.

  • Namarinad

i loved the live performance of the song and how Phillips voice was sexy on it (i even dowloaded it) i did not even know who Clapton was, i watched his live performance and i love it too

  • Incipit

i did not even know who Clapton was, i watched his live performance and i love it too

Oh My. Namarinad, that ‘could’ have been reason for me to to sit right down and cry – but I’m looking on the bright side here – now you ‘do’ have a small idea of who Eric Clapton is – and you loved his video too, and that’s good.

If you are a fan of Phillip’s I expect you will encounter more covers of renowned guitarists in the future, since he seems to like the fusion of blues, soul and rock that Clapton is the Industry Diamond Standard for. So, in the process, I hope you will come to appreciate the giants…and become familiar with the history of the music that Errol is playing…that would be a real bright side. IMO.

Also, JIC Errol ever does play it for Phillip – it wouldn’t hurt to be familiar with “Layla”, in all of it’s incarnations – considered by some to be the best known of Clapton’s songs. I think you would like that too. IMO.
