Plant/Krauss, Lil Wayne Win Big At 51st Grammys

Whitney Houston made a surprise appearance to present Jennifer Hudson with the trophy for best R&B album for her self-titled Arista debut. Hudson, whose mother, brother and nephew were murdered in Chicago last fall, was overwhelmed by emotion as she accepted the Grammy. “I would like to thank my family in heaven and those who are here today,” she said. The artist later performed “You Pulled Me Through” with the help of a choir.

Sparks wears dress by Scottsdale designer

Jordin Sparks wore a black-and-gray rose-print dress by Scottsdale fashion designer Debra Davenport to the Grammy awards.

Simon and Paula not idle?

Are Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul dating?

My God, that would be like Darth Vader and Princess Leia hooking up.

During E!’s red-carpet coverage at the Grammy Awards last night (the actual ceremony aired on Global and CBS), seemingly lubricated interviewer Ryan Seacrest confronted the always seemingly lubricated Abdul about Cowell’s alleged advances. So what if ‘Idol’ picks semi-pros?

But Pacitti is only one of many wannabe “Idols” this year who’ve already felt the heat of the spotlight. There’s an Osmond, a Miss New York USA, a “Sopranos” actress, an actor from “Wicked,” Jonny Lang’s sister, and more.

It’s hard to blame the producers. If they’re really supposedly looking for someone to sign to a record contract, it helps to have some singers who’ve proven they have the discipline to sing in a musical or work on a record, even if they don’t manage to make it big.

“Dancing With the Stars” Announces New Cast

The coveted mirrorball trophy is up for grabs once again as 13 superstars prepare to team up with professional dancers and face off on television’s hit ballroom competition, “Dancing With the Stars.” Past seasons have given actors, a racecar driver and two disabled contestants an opportunity to samba, fox trot and tango their way to victory.

Season eight, which begins March 9, brings seven men and six women the chance to hoist the super-silvery prize above their heads. And for the first time three real-life couples will face-off on the dance floor.

But first: Julianne Hough is back. I know I’m not the only one whose bedazzled heart lost a little luster when Julianne said she was going to take this season off to focus on her music. But by the sparkly magic that is reality TV, this appendix-less pro will, in fact, return for Season 8. Not only that, she’ll be partnering with none other than her real-life boyfriend, country singer Chuck Wicks. Could there be any more happiness in this world?

And back on the pro side, a “So You Think You Can Dance” crossover alert: Dewy “SYTYCD” contender and fan favorite Chelsie Hightower (check out her fantastic “Bleeding Love” routine) will no doubt bring a much-needed gust of youthful energy as she joins fellow alum Lacey Schwimmer on the show.

That article says that Julianne will be partnering with her boyfriend. Seems like an unfair advantage but oh well, it might add entertainment value. Lots of real couples this year.

Jennifer Hudson was beautiful last night at the Grammys and that song was heartrending. As always, her vocals were shatteringly good. She handled herself with total dignity and her boyfriend seems so nice. Jennifer doesn’t have that same megawatt smile she used to have, you can see the sadness. This tragedy has changed her. Nobody should have to go through such a terrible thing.

Carrie was awesome with that song and I take it back, she is not too thin. That picture yesterday made her look thin but she looks fine. Perfect you could say. She has really overcome her reserve/shyness to become quite the exciting performer now.

Sorry to hear about Chris Brown and Rhianna. Violence seems to happen a lot in the rap world. The producers covered up the absences well. I didn’t notice any gaps. The grammys have gotten a lot more classy and glamourous the past 2-3 years. They had gotten so raunchy that I had stopped watching them for several years. I think I wasn’t the only one. Ratings were way down and they got it back on track. It was also dominated for several years by hiphop and rap, and lots of gangstas and bling. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

Al Green is a class act. I really enjoyed the Miley/Taylor duet too. It’s always fun to see Paul McCartney. Cold Play vocals even sounded decent for a change. That’s a great song, love it.

    Chris Brownà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a rapper?

Yeah, the Chris Brown is a rapper idea seems to be going around. I guess because of the arrest? But for the record for all those not familiar, Chris Brown is an R&B/Pop singer who is marketed mostly to the teen set, and in fact has a very boy-next-door image. If Disney had a R&B singer, he’d be Chris Brown. That’s what makes the story so shocking.

I missed the Grammys last night but I did see Carrie and Jen thanks to mj. I think they both did very well.

We shouldn’t pass judgment on Chris Brown and the reason for the bust-up yet. Could be she got pushy or loud with him and said some unkind things….we don’t know….alcohol could be a player in this…we just don’t know. But it seems that these two are over.

It was announced that Jennifer is going on tour with Robin Thicke. She cancelled a guest star appearance with Brian McKnight in November. I hope she comes to Chicago, which I’m sure she will. I will be there!

    From Perez:

In a 2007 interview with Giant magazine, Chris Brown revealed that his mother had been physically abused by his stepfather.

“He used to hit my mom,” the singer, who was arrested Sunday night for allegedly assaulting girlfriend Rihanna, told the magazine. “He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day . . . ‘ I hate him to this day.”

In the same interview, he said he had studied martial arts, which he used to defend himself once in a fight with several classmates.

Brown said after his mother broke up the fight, he urged her not to go to the police. “Don’t go to no cops pressing no charges,” he reported begging her, “like we don’t do that in the hood.”

Unfortunately, growing up amid domestic violence, is one of the strongest precursors to behaving that way yourself. They are both so young. I hope he gets help and I hope she walks away.

I also hope Rihanna never speaks to him again.

According to TMZ, the “deadly weapon” issue might simply involve them charging him with the worst crime they can at first until they are able to involve the DA and the charges are formalized. If he has martial arts training they might be counting his fists as a deadly weapons.

How do we know HE needs serious help? maybe SHE needs serious help.

If he was in an abusive household, and he in turn became an abuser, connect the dots. Of course he needs help if he feels the need to hit a woman he is dating. The break up excuse is ludicrous. I’ve broken up with a few guys here and there and have never been battered for it.

Of course she needs help if she’s been letting him kick her ass. There is evidence that this sort of stuff is rampant in their demographic, maybe she will become the face of young domestic violence. I am sure it wasn’t a part of either of their marketing strategy.

  • ptslittlecomment

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not get dramatic. How do we know HE needs serious help? maybe SHE needs serious help.

I would agree that it is possible that she needs serious help. If she was injured, she needs help. If she was abused and denies or fails to report that abuse she needs help. If she is in an abusive situation, she needs the help of others to safely get out.

However, if the allegations prove to be true, he needs serious help as well. According to interviews, he has admitted growing up in an abusive household. Statistically speaking that means he is more likely to continue the pattern of abuse. He will need help to break that pattern.

No matter what the cause of the arguement there is never -EVER- an excuse for abusing a family member or significant other (or anyone else). I urge anyone who might be in this situation to call 1-800-799-SAFE or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

If one person is helped by this situation, then something positive has come out of a very bad chapter in the lives of all involved.

Cook was in Florida the day of the Grammys. Archie met him in the airport when he flew to Hawaii, Cook was heading to Florida – They were both leaving LA at the same time (pre-Grammys) heading for different destinations.

I don’t know if they were invited, but neither of them was in LA to attend anyway.

Aw. The Davids are going to be reunited. They are too adorkable. :)

Yes, but my point is David Cook could have remained an extra day in LA so that he could attend the Clive party on Saturday, since peeps here have been saying that this party is a very big deal for networking. They said it’s something a young upcoming artist should not pass up on.

I’m guessing that they met up at the airport on Friday since Archie was in Hawaii for Ahona Day on Saturday.

Cookie’s Ameristar show in Kansas City sold out in 6 minutes this morning!

Oh you know what’s funny is while I was in the LAX airport for my layover, I ran into Cook and his gang. We were in the same gate area haha. Only he was headed to Florida, and I was leaving Florida.

How this two keep finding each other with out their big and passionate, I don ´t want to said insane, fanbases finding out… they are ninjas… :laugh_tb:

  • yeahyeahsure

^ Cool! It’s crazy how these tickets are selling out. I just read one article about Taylor Swift selling out the Staples Center in 2 effing minutes! How the hell is that even possible?! Scalpers?!

  • Jolene

Maybe he could have and maybe not, he didn’t go to Florida on holiday, he went there to start tour rehearsals, and quite possibly also to prepare for whatever it is he’s doing on GMA and the Disney event. I have no idea how early the plans were put in motion and whether or not an invitation to a party would have trumped these plans. My guess – no. David Cook hasn’t shown a great penchant so far for attending the glitzy party side of Hollywood. I can definitely imagine him passing on Clive’s party if they already had a schedule lined up.

I just don’t know that going to that party is something that’s top priority above everything else. It’s an honor to be invited, but if you’re not performing… it’s just a party.

Jennifer Hudson is amont the list for Best Dressed at the Grammys, Jordid is an Amost Best Dressed and Paula is worst dressed at the EW list

  • Jolene

Post ho-ing away, but I just saw this picture of David and Andy in a helicopter, I’m assuming from Iraq, and I think it’s just awesome.
I love that they got to go there, do something good, and have all sorts of new experiences along the way.

  • mac

^^ Thanks Jolene. Now that’s hot! Could they be any cuter?

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

If Cook was already in LA, why didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he stick around to attend Cliveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s party? Could it be that they really werenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t invited after all?

I wouldn’t be surprised if both David C. and Archie weren’t invited to Clive’s party. Cos, Clive didn’t have anything to do with their records, right?

Idk whether Archie thanked Clive in his album notes or not, but David C. only thanked Barry Weiss..

  • hardkandy

^^yeah that’s probably it.. coz I think if the Davids were invited to the party, they would attend it in a heartbeat. They would probably rearrange their schedule to make way for it. It’s not just a party…you’d get to meet a lot of big named stars (you even get to see them perform in close proximity), lots of big time producers… all the right people that you could be so lucky to work with in the future. They’re relatively new, I don’t think they’d see themselves to be above this kind of event.

About Rihanna and Chris Brown…it’s sad that these things happen. I wonder if CB’s career can survive this, it’s a pretty huge scandal… especially for someone squeaky clean like him.

Update on the Build a Bear project…

    * David Archuleta will be the first to record the song.
    * Available in 5 days, as in Feb. 14th – Valentineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Day!
    * The song will be available as a download for $1. BAB will donate that $1 to Save the Children Foundation.
    * The download card is available in the stores at the register. (not sure if it will be available on the website.)
    * The download will be available until March 4th ONLY. YIKES! Not a lot of time.
    * There will be a sign with Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cutey-patootey face at the front of the store, at the register and where the t-shirts will be on display. She thinks it is the Album cover picture.
    * T-shirts should also be available on the 14th. Not sure what they look like, though. Not sure if the Canadian stores will be getting the t-shirts.
    * However, the Canadian stores will be getting the song in both English and French (obviously David did not sing the French version).

    source: Fans of David

ETA: I’m not sure, but I think the T-shirts are for the stuffed animals to wear, not for people. Haha.

Idk whether Archie thanked Clive in his album notes or not, but David C. only thanked Barry Weiss..

I checked. Archie also thanked Barry Weiss but made no mention of Clive Davis.

Cool blog post about David A. http://blogs.augusta.com/node/2167

  • oceana

So, if she got pushy or loud, she deserved a smack? Or, if he was drunk, we should forgive him?
    Not in my world. Sorry.

Not in my world either. There is no excuse for violence, especially against women or children, or anyone smaller or weaker.

Sorry I got it wrong about Chris Brown being a rapper. I don’t follow Jordin Sparks or top 40 music much. Very true, mj, that domestic violence cuts across economic, racial and cultural lines. I shouldn’t have lumped it together with other violence.

Re: Clive’s party, it’s very likely the Davids weren’t invited, but it’s also possible that they had other commitments. I’m sorry they didn’t get to go, whatever the reason.

  • Lu

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The whole thing with Chris Brown is really sad. He obviously needs some serious help!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not get dramatic. How do we know HE needs serious help? maybe SHE needs serious help.

Well, since you directly quoted me and then followed up with the “Let’s not get dramatic” comment, I feel compelled to respond. I firmly believe that he does need serious help if he committed an act of violence against someone. Allegedly the woman has a broken nose. I dont know people who go around hitting people so I think when people do, they need to get some help. That is not a normal way of responding. I dont’ care what she did or didn’t do, what he did was not justified. So I dont think I was being dramatic at all – jsut stating my opinion.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Again we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what happened. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all sorts of rumors on the internet about him wanting to break up with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“herà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and she wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have it. So we should wait to see what happens and why it happened.

There’s never EVER EVER an excuse for domestic violence. I don’t give a flying FUCK what she did. If he hit her, he was WRONG.

  • Trina

    http://www.tmz.com/2009/02/09/rihanna-bloody-and-bruised/

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Rihanna’s injuries were severe — two “huge contusions” which swelled up on both sides of her forehead. We’re told she also suffered “a bloody lip and nose.”

One of the law enforcement people put it this way — the contusions “look like an MMA fighter or something … [It] looked like she was growing devil’s horns.”

There is NO reason or excuse to do that to a woman. NONE. If the above is true he did a hell of a lot more than just HIT her.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

He’s an idiot if the allegations are true. So yes, he does need help. Not just help, but significant jail time.

It’s sad that someone would throw their life away when they seemingly had everything going for them. The situation is sad on so many levels.

  • cookcricket

Honestly, could she have tripped and fallen to get these injuries? Maybe I’m completely naive, but I still believe in the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. Have any witnesses come forth? I realize everyone is saying IF, but I’d like to know more. Maybe I never will, but…

Having said that, anyone who hurts someone who is weaker than them deserves jail/prison time and needs major/major help.

  • hypertwink

Let me just preface this by saying that I believe Rihanna’s claim that Chris Brown hit her…BUT I’ve read about some women who set up men by having someone else hit them.

Which is probably not the case since if I were a devious bitch who looked like Rihanna, I probably would have planned on not breaking my nose.

  • oceana

I agree that there’s no excuse for violence, and no tolerance for it. If true, jail time is warranted and also getting help. Women in that situation might need help too.

It is sad that a young person with so much going for him can’t control his inner demons, if allegations are true. Sad that the cycle of violence repeats itself. Hopefully he will get help with that. Anyone who acts out violently definitely needs help.

What happened to Jennifer Hudson’s family is a case of domestic violence taken to its worst extreme. Women and children are killed frequently due to domestic violence. It begins with hitting and usually gets worse.

It kills me to hear people blame the victim. That’s really disappointing but sadly it’s common.

Honestly, could she have tripped and fallen to get these injuries?

Not if the injuries are as described. Also charges were brought against him. There would be no charges filed if she tripped and fell.

Why are people looking for excuses to make for him? Is it because they like him and don’t want it to be true? Of course he hasn’t been tried and convicted, but it’s clear that violence occurred here.

Both DCTR and DATA are due to drop in Brazil in March according to Portal POPLine. The website is in Portuguese, but this is the translation:

The two American Idol finalistsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ albums in stores in March

David Cook and David Archuleta (pictured), will be released in Brazil. Their albums will be in stores in March. The winner and the runner-up of the 2008 season of American Idol, despite having the same name, have styles that are very different.

    David Cook (right)
With a rock rhythm, his first single is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Light On.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ The video debuts tomorrow (02/10) at 9 AM (Brazilian time) on MTV Brazil. Soon, it will be on other TV channels.

    David Archuleta (left)
Is a true pop star. “Crush,” his first hit, debuts on Wednesday (02/11), also on MTV Brazil, at 9 AM. Other TV channels will have the video on their programs by the end of the month.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The albums will be in stores in March. Because of the carnival, I believe it will be in the second half of the month,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ said a Sony Music representative exclusively to POPLine. The record company plans to premiere them on pop radio.

Besides the Davids, another American Idol artist will be released. Jennifer Hudson will have her album debut here as well.

It has been sad to read articles online at various websites today and see the amount of excuse making on Chris Brown’s behalf. I think some of his fans are so desperate to hang onto their perception of him that they aren’t letting themselves see reality. Seeing a hero fall of a pedestal is never easy but that’s probably a good reason not to put any celebrity on one in the first place. We don’t KNOW any of these people. It doesn’t matter how nice they are on tv. It doesn’t matter how many autographs they sign and how many pictures they take. It doesn’t matter how religious they claim to be. Much of it is an illusion and we need to be careful not to buy into it too much.

As has been said ad nauseum in this thread, it doesn’t matter what Rihanna did or didn’t do. Even if she was the clingiest girlfriend in the world or the world’s biggest bitch, she didn’t deserve to be beaten. Chris Brown probably needs some therapy and definitely needs some anger management skills. Otherwise it WILL happen again, either to Rihanna or another girl.

  • LK09

Seeing a hero fall off a pedestal is never easy but thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s probably a good reason not to put any celebrity on one in the first place.

Now that is something we can agree on. We have to be careful that we don’t expect these people to be perfect, because they are human.

Hitting someone though is a major is a pretty major mistake that you wouldn’t expect from a decent, reasonable person.

  • cookcricket

Why are people looking for excuses to make for him? Is it because they like him and donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want it to be true? Of course he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been tried and convicted, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clear that violence occurred here.

I can only answer for myself. I had personally never heard of Chris Brown before “No Air” and it wasn’t until I saw the name over and over that I realized he was even well known. (Never pursued him further.) I’m not even a Jordin fan in the sense that I own her music. I just believe in the whole innocent until proven guilty system in our country. (However, I’ll be the first to admit that this system doesn’t always work especially when the famous are involved.)

I also don’t know a THING about Rihanna, but I do know of a particular situation (perhaps the only abuse situation I know almost first hand) where the woman was the true abuser. So I’m only saying anything can be possible.

OMG! My heart so goes out to all of the women who are abused and don’t feel as if they can do anything about it! I cannot imagine being in this situation and I would be the first to fight for this person if I was aware of something like this.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

The whole innocent until proven guilty thing is reserved for the court of law. Chris Brown will get his chance through the due process of law.

People are reacting to the news, which seems damning. The latest is that the person who called 911 was not Rhianna, which means there could be witnesses.

As far as I can tell, Chris Brown is healthy and not hurt in any way. So I’m not sure how the woman, in this case Rhianna, could be the *true* abuser. If she said or did something he didn’t like, that’s no excuse.

  • cookcricket

pj, point taken. My final word, may justice be served.

  • gabam

Some pictures online of Chris Brown in his lawyer’s car with his face covered showed bruises on his knuckles. If he hit her with his fist with enough force to cause those bruises on his hand, the punches must have hurt her very much.

They are so young. I wish them both well. I hope that she’ll be strong enough to get out of the relationship.
