Nearly 300 fans of David Archuleta, the seventh season “American Idol” runner-up, braved the rain and chilly temperatures Monday for a chance to see the 18-year-old Utah resident at The Swamp Restaurant.

Archuleta performed a couple of songs from his new self-titled album, answered questions from fans and signed autographs for about an hour and a half as part of the Kiss 105.3 Acoustic Concert Series.

KISS 105.3 chose The Swamp because it is a traditional Gainesville restaurant and a staple in the city, said KISS employee Christian Chase.

Archuleta was scheduled to sing on the front porch of the University Avenue restaurant, but because of the rain it was moved to the second storyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s back porch.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I love the rain,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  Archuleta said. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“But if you are in it too long you can get sick and that gets risky, especially if you have to sing.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 

Yesterday in Utah, David performed and spoke at a fireside for a group of Mormon youth.

I have to correct myself. Since he was with Cook in Florida on Saturday and doing radio appearances this morning, then he must have done the fireside thing in Florida as well. I just assumed these fireside things were a regional thing limited to Utah for some reason.

Jennifer Hudson plans six-week U.S. tour this spring

As the rave reviews roll in for Jennifer Hudson’s national anthem rendition before Super Bowl XLIII last night — her first public performance since tragedy struck her family in October — the singer is already preparing to launch a full U.S. tour. Manager Damien Smith tells EW that the Dreamgirls Oscar winner will headline a roughly six-week run in theater-sized venues beginning in late March or early April. “Everybody stay tuned,” says Smith. “You’ll be seeing a lot more of her.”

Now, I’m a little confused. She’s with Will Smith’s Overbrook? and had a manager by the name of Miguel? If this Damien Smith is her new manager, she’s gone through about 4 since Dreamgirls. That’s not a good sign.

Private gigs are lucrative. Idols do more than you’d be lead to believe.

Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an idea. Write how the new semi-finals format puts even more power into the producers hands to manipulate the final 12.

Actually, that’s one of the ideas I’ve been tossing around… .

Well, it’s a corporate event. No public tickets so no reason to make it known to the public beforehand. Sounds like good practice for tour, though.

It’s so nice that DA and DC can be back together again for a performance. Strange how no one seems to have known about this in any of the fan sites that I frequent. Wow, 10 songs! That’s practically his whole album. They are probably the songs he’ll perform during his tour. I hope someone has videos of the event, or at the very least tell us which 10 songs!

Quite true. Any time humans are involved, we gotta expect the gaffes.

I think the only people who should sweat it are the ones who were planning to attend that venue.
