Kelly, never the idle Idol

SITTING in the miserable Manchester drizzle, it’s hard to empathise with the enthusiastic Kelly Clarkson as she proclaims a love for the city unrivalled even by its own residents.

“God, I love Manchester,” howls Kelly, her Texan accent still plump and pronounced. “Manchester always comes out for us, it is one of my biggest audiences. That’s why we’re starting the tour there, Manchester will get it all going.

To give the city its dues, Manchester, where her 11-date tour begins in March, has supported Kelly since she won the landmark first series of American Idol in 2002. It seems far longer ago that she started on the road to pop stardom – a
journey that’s seen her sell more than 10m albums and scoop a bucketload of awards and famous fans along the way.

‘American Idol’ Finalist Jessica Sierra OK After Pregnancy Scare:

While the rest of the world was toasting the advent of 2008 in the company of family and friends, “American Idol” alumna Jessica Sierra spent New Year’s Eve at a medical facility in Brandon, Florida, according to a TMZ.com report.

The Web site claims Sierra, 22, was transported from her jail cell in Tampa to the nearby Brandon Regional Hospital, because staffers at the jail feared the singer would lose her unborn child. It was announced on December 20 that she is pregnant with the baby of a man who has not been identified.

According to TMZ.com, Sierra was suffering from “severe bleeding” before she was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Sierra and the unborn child are said to be doing fine.

VH1 puts reality TV into rehab

Brigitte Nielsen, who has made a second career out of third and fourth careers, puts it this way: “People who don’t have a heart are going to find it entertaining, but really it’s educational and it should be looked at in that way.”

The Danish-born actress is referring to her earnest participation in VH1′s “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew,” which premieres at 10 p.m. Thursday and costars eight other low-rung celebrities battling for sobriety. Some, like Nielsen, who had to drink half a bottle of vodka to make the initial phone call for rehab, are still winning: Almost six months after taping the program, she said, she hasn’t had a drink. Others on the program, like Jessica Sierra, a former “American Idol” finalist who was arrested and jailed last month in Florida on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest, clearly are not.

Fallen Idol Sierra Bound for Rehab

The 22-year-old, who also happens to be pregnant, will remain in jail until her transfer to California. Should she again be found in violation of her probation, she will be placed behind bars for good.

“I tell you what,” Perry said. “When you come back here, you will not get treated different from anybody else. You will be going to prison, and if you don’t think I will, give me a try.”

Sierra will be receiving treatment for one year at the Pasadena Recovery Center, the same place where she logged just three weeks of recovery during filming of the VH1 show. Her treatmentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ including psychiatric care, medical care and 24-hour supervisionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ would ordinarily cost in the six-figure range, but the center is footing the bill.

Pinsky also said he would be a willing participant in Sierra’s recovery and was the one who recommended 12 months in the center.

Clay Aiken’s Golf Tournament, Part 5: Hanging with Mr. Aiken!

“You were here all day! I had no idea you were Leslie. If I known you were here we could have talked sooner,” Clay Aiken said, shaking my hand as I sat down to interview him in a small room at Mirasol Country Club.

Anyway, I finally sat down to talk to Clay right before the awards and informal dinner hour, where he sang and auctioned off a carriage ride in New York with himself for two ladies for $20,000 each. He’s extremely down-to-earth, and the more he talks, the more pronounced his accent gets, which reminds me of my cousins from Arkansas. He also said he could tell I was from “up North” somewhere, because I seemed big-city sophisticated. And since we know “sophisticated” and “Baltimore” are not usually used in the same sentence without the words “is not,” I can tell you – Clay is a nice guy.

Jordin Sparks – Jordin Sparks Review Another Idol winner, another half-baked debut.

To all those sites and radio DJs that conspire to make the worst possible singer win American Idol, you can give up. Winning America’s favorite vocal competition has become its own penalty. There is a freedom to loosing on the show, rewarding you with the option to choose your own label and songs. Sure, the formula worked for Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, but they seem to have scraped the bottom of the pop barrel by the time Jordin Sparks came along. With the weak bubblegum pop fodder Sparks is saddled with on her disappointing debut, losing the contest sure looks like the way to go.

From the Billboard chart recap today:

“Don’t be alarmed by the 123-32 jump for Elliott Yamin’s “Sounds of the Season” holiday EP. The set, exclusively available through Target, was offered at a bargain basement price last week at the retailer. It moved 23,000 this week — a gain of 112%. It’s not the only album to benefit from blowout pricing. Among the obvious beneficiaries are KT Tunstall’s own “Sounds of the Season,” re-entering at No. 92 with a 176% gain.”

So Eliott’s Target Xmas CD outsold Jordin and Blake this week. That’s fairly hilarious even if it did it by being on sale. All the Target Xmas CDs were being sold at 75% off last week.

Selling music in 2007 proves one thing: Better try every medium for scattershot success

  • Nik

This is how I see things and certainly don’t expect people to feel the same way. So I personally don’t understand the negativity aimed towards Blake. Yeah playing music loudly and disturbing his neighbors was inconsiderate, but I don’t feel it warrants calling him vile or a jerk. I assume these perceptions aren’t just coming from this story, but from others like the one with ‘titties in your mouth,’ which I saw many people found in poor taste. I didn’t see what the big deal was, just Blake being silly during an exciting time in NYC. I like outspoken Blake with his tendancy to be blunt, and I have yet to hear him say anything that is truly offensive or disrespectful to others. Anyways, that’s just my opinion. I do hope hope he apologized to his neighbors for being disruptive though.

Then yes, Blake IMO is a jerk. Interesting quote from Simon, and also quite true, at least from the business aspect. I wish the show would at least stop pretending it’s a search for talent and originality and admit it’s a search for a cash cow regardless of talent and/or originality. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that’s a distinction that many people who can’t look past the title tracks on their NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL MUSIC! CDs would be able to comprehend.

Edited to clarify: I don’t mean, of course, that anyone who owns a NOW CD or enjoys the songs featured on the NOW CD can’t make the distinction…just that there are some people who refused to believe that there is a world of music beyond what is sanctioned by the most mainstream of the mainstream.

I also agree with Star. He comes across as a bit immature, but that doesn’t make him a bad person. Someone at Kimmel last night said he was goofing around and then saw two Marines in the audience and he stopped and respecfully saluted them.

He was getting ready to sing Scattered and then paused and said, “I’ll have to change this up a little for my younger audience.” At that moment, I was ready to propose to him – lol. Even if I hate the music on Ace’s cd (I know I wont), I’m buying it because I want to support him. As a mom, I like to back the good guys (and gals).

Geez…Page Six people! Grain of salt, and all that. :) .

I’m sorry MJ – I dont even have a clue what Page Six is… I just saw the article posted in the headlines. I’m somewhat suspicious since the “spy” is unnamed. We’ll see. If it did happen the way that spy person said it did though, he’s a jerk, imo. But, we’ll probably never get the real story if there even is one.

I dont even have a clue what Page Six is…

It’s gossip, like the Enquirer or Perez Hilton. Reading page 6 is kind of like reading your horoscope imo–for entertainment purposes only. :) .

Oh – you mean like – Idol Star Born on Mars! – headlines like that? lol – thanks for pointing out the shakiness of the source. I’ll reserve judgement.

Well, Perez had Blake on his site recently too. It was linked here. Called his friends “heterosexually challenged.” He didn’t even realize one of them was Nick Hexum from 311. I think Perez got flamed by more 311 fans than Blake fans, lol.

Lu, I did hear that Ace has a distribuion deal even if he’s putting his album out on his own. *crosses fingers*

I do not think season 5 was the best overall season…American idol and J-records had thier eyes set on Chris D first and formost (year of Daughtry in ai history) secondly they got a bubbly southern country singer. Whom they pimed big time durring season 6 along with Carrie U. Whom called the top 12 plus 3.

Elliott or Mandisa were in the top two either probably would of left j-records too. No matter what thier probably a fews Chris D fans who think it is funny how his cd creamed the competition like lsu did to ohio state.. I really do not think it was humorous at all eventhough I can be harsh . Thats why season 5 is the near the bottom to me it is the is the far far right fanactics which put others in defence mode, which turned it into a wierd thing.

Page Six has been accused of lazy reporting so maybe this is a case of mostly true but, define is.

Sooo McKat got McDumped, very interesting. Is old Daddy Warbucks getting cranky in his dottage or is he starting spring cleaning early?

Re Blake. I am sure all of the contestants on Idol have said things everyone would be shocked at. I know one in particular who could be quite nasty when they wanted to be on season 5 and everyone would be shocked cause they were so *nice* on *tv*, lol. It’s just tv, great entertainment and hopefully great careers for a few. I wish all these kids well. For *me* I am glad they are all getting out from under old cranky.

Just to add. The Blake item didn’t make it to the NY Post itself. There must be some kind of Page Six blog now(I guess like TMZ). In general, page six items are negative but tend to be true. So usually if it’s included, it’s for real.

I don’t know about that. They get quite a few things wrong. Some of their mistakes are so obvious, it’s laughable. So yeah, I find their pages entertaining, but I don’t take it as gospel.
