‘American Idol’ favorite overcomes Tourette’s, Asperger’s

I believe it was December of ’98 when my dad passed away of an overdose. A few weeks later, around my 10th birthday, I was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and Asperger’s syndrome. It was a really rough time, especially at that age, being told I have a neurological “disease,” when I already felt so different. At that point I was being bullied for being different, having big ears, and now for having no dad AND for making weird faces and noises I couldn’t control. I was a walking target. – Read more at CNN

Blake Lewis Discusses Third Album and LGBT Support – Coming in second in any competition is never the ideal outcome, but placing second on a reality singing competition show as big as American Idol is a completely different story and not something to be ashamed of. Blake Lewis, 31, proved he was a force to be reckoned with on the show with his unique arrangements of popular songs and beatboxing skills after rushing to audition sign-ups only a few hours before the cutoff. After receiving a standing ovation from Paula Abdul during the audition process, a comment from Simon Cowell saying he was “over the top” and delivering a memorable performance of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name”, which has been considered one of the show’s best moments, Lewis was labeled a front runner for the title and eventually became the last male contestant standing in the competition. – Read more at Album Confessions

VIDEO: Chris Colfer and his love of blackmail – For 2013, what do you see coming up for yourself and what are you obsessed with, pop culture-wise? Well, I’ve got a lot of stuff planned on the books. I think I’ll be doing my second film that I wrote, mostly likely be filming that in the summer. And then I have my third novel, the sequel to my first novel, is coming out at end of summer, early fall. And then “Glee.” And as far as pop culture, what am I obsessed with? I’m really bad at being obsessed with pop culture. I know I reference it quite a bit in things that I do and write, but I don’t know. I really love the new creatures they find in the ocean. That’s not really pop culture, that’s just being a nerd.
