Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett starring in holiday musical ‘Black Nativity’ – A slew of Oscar faves like Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson are on tap for holiday musical “Black Nativity,” which began principal photography today in New York. The adaptation of the 1961 Langston Hughes play, “Black Nativity” will boast new songs and arrangements from producer and singer Raphael Saadiq, with director Kasi Lemmons (“Eve’s Bayou”) at the helm. Considering its a musical film, there are other artists on tap in the cast: Nas, Tyrese Gibson (or, simply, Tyrese), Island Def Jam’s Luke James and RCA artist Jacob Latimore are also added. – Read more at Hit Fix

‘American Idol’ Alum Colton Dixon Brings the Noise — And a Message — on New Album – “I’m just blessed,” the 21-year-old singer tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s been a crazy ride and I’ve learned so much, not only about music and the music business but about life itself.” Dixon’s standing in the Christian market certainly has created some buzz, particularly from fellow Idols like season seven’s Jason Castro, who just released his own CD, Only a Mountain, in January. “I really like his first single, which is, ironically, the name of my first single,” joshed Castro. “He’s got an amazing voice, and we haven’t crossed paths yet. This number represents a 33% increase over Logo’s previous top-rated season premiere (fourth season premiere of “RuPaul’s Drag Race”) and clocks in as the highest-rated season premiere in Logo history. Barbra Streisand to Perform on Oscars for First Time in 36 Years – Barbra Streisand will perform on the Oscars telecast for the first time in 36 years, the producers of this year’s show said Wednesday. They did not say what song she would sing. Streisand, who has battled stage fright at various points in her career, has only sung on the Oscars one time before. She sang the love theme from “A Star Is Born” on the 1977 show, which won her the Best Original Song Oscar that same night. – Read more at The Wrap

Justin Timberlake To Perform On Music’s Biggest Night – Six-time GRAMMY winner Justin Timberlake is set to perform on the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast. This marks the first time in four years that Timberlake will perform on the GRAMMY stage, and will be his first TV performance since he announced the release of his first studio album in seven years, The 20/20 Experience, which will be released March 19. Previously announced performers for the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards are current nominees Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert, the Black Keys, Fun., the Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Jack White, as well as Elton John and current nominee Ed Sheeran performing live together for the first time.
