OK, I don't like country, I'm not a Carrie fan AT ALL, but that video was adorable. I loved the bit w/ the pick up & the baseball bat, and how she faked winning the beauty pageant. It was a hoot. My question - why can't they do a decent video like that for some of the others? Why does Carrie keep getting decent songs but Taylor & Kat got stuff that didn't really suit them at all? Anyway - cute video.

The CP is closing -- so fast! Do we know why? Damn Lakesha didn't have any time with the show. I guess Chaka Khan couldn't keep it going. They probably needed a big star to fill the Celie role. Fantasia was probably wore out! Too bad. They have a touring company so that's good. I feel sorry for Lakesha.

I'm not a big Carrie fan but I really enjoyed that. Thanks for posting it as I'd probably never have seen the video let along heard the song as I don't do country radio. I like country in small doses. I hear Garth Brooke is doing a show and that might interest me more. Carrie really is one of the best looking young singers out there, maybe she'll try films.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080124/ap_en_ot/theater_color_purple_2

Broadway's `Color Purple' is closing

"The Color Purple" will close Feb. 24 on Broadway after a run of more than two years.

The musical, based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of triumph over adversity, will have played 910 performances by the time the final curtain falls next month at the Broadway Theatre.

The current cast includes Zonya Love as Celie, Walker's determined heroine, as well as Grammy winners Chaka Khan and BeBe Winans and "American Idol" finalist LaKisha Jones.

The $11 million musical, which opened in December 2005, recouped its investment in less than year for the show's producers, who include Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones.

A touring company, starring LaToya London of "American Idol" and Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child, is currently playing Los Angeles. The tour is scheduled through 2009.

I hardly remember any of the non=finalists. It's odd that a recording company is spending money to make these records. They are probably doing very low cost productions.

I think people will eventually be surprised by Jordin's success. One major hit single and a second that looks like it will be just as big bodes well for album sales down the road and will boost her radio opportunities with single number 3-- weaker songs will get more airplay than they normally would, a la because of you, hazel eyes and walk away.

RE: Gedeon Mckinney and Patrick Hall

I thought Gedeon deserved the spot Kevin Covais took.

Patrick Hall never got the chance to prove himself because of one bad song choice that did him in. I've since seen his other performances at YOUTUBE and he also has the Billy Joel vibe about him.

Just proved what a talented bunch Season 5 was. A season that will be hard to duplicate ( so hard that they have to try to duplicate it now by choosing failed major label recording artists to join the competition ).

The articles how so and so did not meet expectations do you think that an Elliot , Katherine or some other would also if they would of won? It is very doubtful but who knows some also have hits. The expectaions in Idol land are way to high for an artist to consistantly do well and reach a quick million or have a million each time it is a rare occurance. Dolly Parton or the Band Queen it took awhile for them to make it both thier first records did not do well. Maybe American Idol was braught down to earth and does not like it because it is hard to consistantly get lightning in a bottle. Thier taking former signees or ones that had a hit back and trying to relaunch or just tweek them to fit mold more to become the next super star. The media knows this since season one .I do not think it will effect the show but it is becomming more apparent. This is my opinion from watching bits of the show and reading about it.

I want good music not generic pop stuff that does not truely represent the artist .They can find a middle ground hopefuly.

Yeah Elliott is getting a sort of a Clive cd just like some past contestants. Maybe thier tweeking (mold) him a bit and turning him into a bigger yet generic pop 40 star. I hope they do not mold him which may happen but most people would not even notice.

Speaking of molding here is one who did not fallow ing mold of holleywood about Heath Ledger From NYT and it is not sad but very well written.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/24/movies/24appr.html?_r=1&ref=arts&oref=slogin

Thanks pj and lu

Vol. 2, tentatively scheduled for March 4, will spotlight Alaina Alexander, Rudy Cardenas, Patrick Hall and Gedeon McKinney.

Go Gedeon! Talk about someone who got screwed. They didn't focus on his "backstory" at all.

The LA Times article was completely on the money. The show is suffering from two back to back winners who couldn't move the necessary units in Idol world and the fact that Daughtry is the biggest star of the past two years.

As they wrote "As the season progresses, the tension will decrease, and, in turn, "Idol's" pop-culture mystique, if the market continues to get flooded with near winners" This is so true and deadly to the show. They have to do something to make winning important again. Simon already said the entire top 12 could get record deals so why bother to vote or care when someone gets eliminated.

Elliott excited to be working with Dianne Warren. He's making the album that Clive would have wanted him to. LOL.
