Mark Ballas Injured on Tour

Dancing with the Stars pro Mark Ballas suffered a groin injury and will have to sit out à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“a couple of weeksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to heal, he announced on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

Ballas, who won the season six DWTS mirror ball trophy with Olympic skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi last May, is on tour with the show. He grimaced in pain as he apologized to the Staples Center crowd for not being able to give his all, though he did manage a spirited performance with Yamaguchi as well as a crowd-pleasing, high-energy hip-hop routine with fellow pros Lacey Schwimmer and Derek Hough.

An Aggie idol’s rise to fame comes in at #9 on our Top 10 Stories of 2008 as voted on by KBTX.com visitors.

Construction Science major Jason Castro went from small town singer to the top four on the nation’s most popular television show, American Idol.

Before last spring, Castro was just your average college student at Texas A&M. That was before Idol.

It didn’t take long for the dread-locked crooner to became a favorite on Fox’s hit reality show, especially among Aggies.

Michael Johns Christmas Gift

I am a bit late commenting on this, but the Christmas spirit has run strong in Michael Johns this year, who took the unusual step of making his first post-”Idol” single an all-for-charity effort, donating the proceeds to the Muscular Dystrophy Assn.’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis division and to the Red Cross. Johns wrote of the single and his involvement with it on his MySpace blog:

Michael Flatley and Nigel Lythgoe interview: Superstars of Dance on NBC

NBC has a great new reality show from the Kingpin of smallscreen veritas, Nigel Lythgoe.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Superstars of Danceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ features the crà ¨me de la crà ¨me the world over in a professional level competition that eschews audience and call-in voting, and opts for pros to weigh in on their peers. The show is hosted by Lord of the Dance, first-generation Irishman Michael Flatley of Chicago, who even excelled in boxing; Flatley was a Golden Gloves champ in Chi-town back in 1975.

1. Clay Aiken
Perhaps the Claymates were the only ones surprised to learn the “American Idol” runner-up is gay, but the earlier news that he was going to be a father made quite a ripple. The American Idol and his friend Jaymes Foster decided to raise son Parker together. “I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things,” the singer said when he came out and introduced his son in the same People article. “I wasn’t raised that way, and I’m not going to raise a child to do that.”

Forget that, Vulture wants to marry Archie…. lol I love me some vulture:

David Archuleta Is Now a Man

A happy belated birthday to the most talented singing sensation ever to take the stage! … turned 18 yesterday, which means David’s of legal age to marry. So if you’ll excuse us, we need to step out and buy something in a little blue box. But is he the brilliant- or princess-cut type? Oh, who are we kidding à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ he’s BOTH

    :lol_tb: :lol_tb:

  • weareallinnocent

LOL Vulture does provide excellent — albeit offbeat and sometimes off color — tongue-in-cheek humor!

And, so ya know, I always cast Archie as the next great hip-hop sensation. :cool2_tb:

ETA: From some notes on the votes on Standard net, it seems the voting was done by teens? Is that accurate? I’m just not at all familiar with that site, but it may explain the odd opinions on Coldplay and Mraz songs? Who knows, I’m just guessing, pretty unintelligently too. LOL

Not only is “Crush” labeled as Hip Hop, but “Low”, “Viva La Vida” and “I’m Yours” were voted as the worst songs of 2008…really?

EW list American Idols season finale in the Biggest Showbiz Events of 2008:

    AMERICAN IDOL FINALE
    May 21

Season 7 of Fox’s behemoth closed as a battle of the Davids: baby-faced crooner Archuleta versus scruffy rocker (and eventual winner) Cook. November found the pair in an album-release rematch, with Cook maintaining his top spot, selling 280,000 copies in the first week and besting Archuleta’s 183,000.

  • David_Cook_Rocks

Aw, poor Mark. I hope he gets better soon. I’m going to see the Ballas Hough Band in two weeks in Detroit. I would like to see the DWTS show the same day but only if I can find cheap tickets.

I think it ´s not to difficult to accept this result after all, YMMV… by example I hate it Viva La Vida the first time I listen to it, its took time for it to grow up on me, and I don ´t listen to it that often… and I ´m yours I love it the fuirst time and download it but now I ´m tired and I don ´t want to listen to it again…

I guess it ´s really depends, we also will ahve to see to the demographic of the site, if it is really teenagers of people who like to listen to Top40 is not crazy that kind of results… always when surveys are use to made this kindof awards or list there is a lot of things to take in to an account…

And beside I think this is a site from UTAH so is not crazy that they choose the local boy as the winner…

  • central80

LOL Mac…. :) Though you’re about 10-15 years behind in the lingo, I like your moxie :bye_tb:

My hip hop loving son did once comment that he thought Crush was “sick”… I only recently figured out that was good!

KSL.com puts David Archuleta American Idol Journey as #8 in Top Ten sTORIES FOR 2008 (this is from UTAH)

Top Stories of 2008, #8: Archuleta on ‘American Idol’

A teenager from Murray High School won Americans over as a finalist of American Idol. Seventeen-year-old David Archuleta was picked as one of the 24 finalists on seventh season of American Idol. Week after week his solid voice made him a crowd favorite, and Utahns couldn’t get enough of him.

During the show, Archuleta made a trip back home to Utah. One excited fan said, “Well he has a great voice, he’s very funny and shy, and he’s really cute.”

Another fan said, “He’s fantastic. She wants me to say that he’s hot, she wants me to say that he’s cute. I love the pure singing talent.”

While here, Archuleta said, “I can’t believe it. I cannot believe this many people came. I didn’t think this many people would show. Oh my gosh.”

After a stop at The Gateway, Archuleta performed at his stomping grounds, Murray High School. The mayor of Murray gave him a day in his honor, a street was named after him, and he sang the national anthem at a Jazz-Lakers game.

Then it was back to business, back on stage for the season finale. Thousands of fans gathered at the Energy Solutions Arena to watch the finale live. Family members were also there. His grandfather James Archuleta said, “David probably has achieved the goal he set when he was a young boy – to be able to reach many people with his music.”

There were 97.5 million votes cast that night across the country — an American Idol record — but it wasn’t enough for the hometown hero. He lost.

One fan told us, “I’m kind of disappointed because I was going to marry David Archuleta.

Another fan, Cheyenne Marquez, said, “I really don’t think that David Cook deserved it. I think David Archuleta deserved it so much more! He’s come so far!”

Fans who invested time and energy into Archuleta were crushed. “His voice and his smile, it just brightens up my day and it makes every bad day turn good,” Marquez said.

A professor at BYU calls it a para-social relationship. Professor Steve Thomas said, “They’ve seen them in a variety of different situation, circumstances, they’ve learned about them, they’ve come to know them. It’s much like developing a normal relationship. The primary difference, however, is that the relationship is only one way.”

Thomas adds most fans have probably already moved on and now will anxiously await season eight, to see who their next American Idol will be.

Since the competition, David Archuleta has released a self-titled album, with the lead single “Crush.”

  • soundscene

LOL… I really can’t stand the song “Low.” So, yeah, YMMV.

American Idol Heartthrob David Archuleta Turns Eighteen

Women around the world are rejoicing as David Archuleta reaches his eighteenth birthday and officially enters adulthood – at least from a legal standpoint. David Archuleta, last year’s American Idol runner-up, captured the hearts and imaginations of women of all ages from around the world. His pleasant demeanor and strong singing voice were more than enough to make him the most “attractive” contestant for most of the show’s viewership.

And now, David Archuleta is eighteen. And while that is big news for big-dreaming twenty-somethings and mildly disturbed thirty-somethings, it’s actually bad news for the tweens and teens under eighteen who pine for young David.
Now that he’s eighteen, his handlers will likely prefer him to only have relationships with women older than eighteen. No sense risking any legal issues by dating minors, now that Archuleta is legally an adult.

David is staying relevant and in the public eye with various holiday appearances and working the talk-show circuit. He is likely going to be back for the upcoming season of American Idol, appearing as a celebrity singer to coach or perform with the new contestants. Cruz ´s Note: I don ´t think so….

Archuleta signed with Jive records in June 2008 and his first single, Crush was released in August on a New York radio station. After hitting iTunes, it rose to #1 within 18 hours and debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Lisa- I read and for the life of me don’t remember where, that Eli signed with Epic Records and starts recording in LA in January…..YAY!!!!

For the record, I know it was a reputable site, I just am having a complete brain fart and can’t remember where I read about it.

  • Lisa

Thanks Baxter! Weird, I got the above info off of Eli’s uncle’s site (below) and he did not mention him signing with Epic. If you find it please post a link! I sure hope it’s true. I would buy his cd asap.

Thanks for posting the Eli videos. I really like him. I’d definitely check out any CD he comes up with. This also makes me wonder what’s up with my favorite Canadian Idol contestants…Earl and Mookie (and maybe Sebastian for the eye candy he was).

Just saw a new AI commercial that stars all of the Idol winners from all seven seasons. It was good to see them all. It starts and ends with Cook, and then shows them in the order of their season. I’m sure there is a video of it somewhere. Very interesting advertising this year but I like it. Bring on the new season, I’m ready.

More shocking news. David Archuleta is one of the candidates being considered for the replacement of Robert Plant in the Led Zeppelin band!

    Zep’s PLan

Deep sources in the Zeppelin camp provided us with this shocking document à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ from an agent hired to find a replacement for Robert Plant…

    William Morris Agency
    Talent and Literary Agency

    December 20th, 2008

Mr. Page, Mr. Jones, and Mr. Bonham,

If youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re insisting upon replacing Mr. Plant on the Led Zeppelin tour, I want you to have all options. I know you like this fellow from Alter Bridge, Myles Kennedy, but please consider these alternativesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    * Axl Rose. Sure, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gone a little crazy and his album just tanked. But after Robert, he has the best scream in rock. Upside: guaranteed sellouts. Downside: canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t leave house.

    * Conor Oberst. Work with me here. Yes, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sensitive but huge with the iPod kids. Drives own van, wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t cost a lot to feed. Upside: learns songs quickly. Downside: might cry.

    * T-Pain. Again, unusual choice. But a master of contemporary pop, has tons of Top 10 singles, and top hats will be a good look for you. Upside: will use Auto-Tune on vocals. Downside: will use Auto-Tune on vocals.

    * Amy Winehouse. Sure, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a little frightened of her too. But maybe you want a Brit. Upside: superb at converting classics. Downside: makes Bonzo look like Pat Boone.

    * David Archuleta. Don’t laugh. The kid is magic. I read he sang “Immigrant Song” to a crippled man and he walked again. Upside: can easily handle “The Battle of Evermore.” Downside: wears mom jeans.

    Hit me back,
