Music project aims to keep Civil War stories fresh – ATLANTA (AP) — Blood once soaked the soil of battlefields that have since been covered up by skyscrapers and commuter train stations in Atlanta, strip malls in Nashville and farm fields and forests across the South. Now, 150 years after the American Civil War, two musicians are trying to keep that history from being lost in the new landscape. The women, who write about Civil War clashes and those who fought them, are recording videos on the battlefields that inspired their songs. “The whole point is to make sure these stories are kept alive, that they’re not forgotten,” said one of the artists, Vanessa Olivarez. – Read more at Seattle PI

    Just for fun:

The new Opel car is called Adam. Some of the model cars are called Adam slam; Adam Jam & Adam Glam. And no, their decision to name the car has absolutely nothing to do with Adam Lambert.lol  ? pic.twitter.com/ngynolEc

I will admit to researching three of  The Most Searched TV Shows of 2012.  Oh, I also researched Adam Lambert.

Interview: Catching Up with @KrisAllen - Blogcritics Musichttp://bit.ly/V40aSu

  • tripp_ncwy

Thanks for the interview. Lots of good tidbits.

  • Ratna12

What a really great interview of Kris by the Blog Critics, lots of information.
I can not wait for Out Alive Tour, new (really new) music, cover, etc.
I hope also that I can hear the song Love Me Not live for the first time.

  • mzbet

That’s really a nice interview with Kris. I was very interested in what had inspired him to write the song he dedicated to the Newtown victims. I empathize with Katy when she heard him sing it the first time. I also had tears when he sang it on the Stageit show.

Hope to see Kris when he is in WA. Love his new take on Monster.

  • girlygirltoo

That’s a really nice interview with Kris. Looking forward to going to a show (okay, a few shows) on his “Out Alive” tour.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

That was an excellent interview with Kris. Nice job, Kirsten. He answered many of the questions I’ve been wondering about. It’s interesting that he’s going to bring World Vision along for his January and February shows. I wonder how he’ll incorporate them.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

I”m confused on the importance of the Civil Wars music project. Are Idols, or Xers, etc involved in this?

  • MissMyEm

@Miz Vanessa Olivarez was a contestant on Season 2 of Idol and came in 12th, if I recall.

  • MissMyEm

Nice interview with Kris, Kirsten.   I loved his answer for how the song, Where Are You Now Amy came about and how the tour name Out Alive came about…sort of.

  • Larc

I think Vanessa technically came in 11th since Corey Clark was DQed in Top 9 week and wouldn’t have a spot.

  • hellomusicgirl

Enjoyed that interview with Kris! I’ve got a busy few months coming up but really hoping to make it to a show on his Out Alive tour. I haven’t seen him perform live yet so I’m excited about it.

  • Axxxel

Congrats Ryan Murphy… I guess this will give him a lot of inspiration for his series “The New Normal”.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Aha! I don’t remember her at all.

  • Emmuzka

I really dislike it when human aid organisations pay for celebrities to visit the children that are aided (unless the artists or their management pay for themselves and that is clearly told). If I hadn’t revoked my monthly contribution to World Vision (when I learned just how christian they actually are, contrary to what they let us beleive in my country) I would revoke it now because I don’t like the idea of the money going somewhere else than food, water, hygiene and education.

  • Pippygirl

Oh no, what did you find out about them? Before I donated, I looked them up on charitynavigator.org (they evaluate thousands of charities for effectiveness and how transparent they are about finances), and they got 3 out of 4 stars. According to the website that indicates they do a pretty good job with donors’ contributions.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Wasn’t Vanessa the girl who was told to call Ryan a monkey (scripted) and it backfired on her.  She didn’t want to do it.  She was one of the first that revealed manipulation by producers.  I liked her, and how great to be involved in such an omportant project!

  • elliegrll

World Vision also does well on the Better Business Bureau’s chart.

  • Emmuzka

World Vision is pretty good at actually channeling the money to the aid targets. My problem with them is that in my country in Europe, they basically lie about being a christian organisation. It’s all about sponsoring a child etc. Nowhere it says that in actuality it’s an evangelical organisation, with the aim to convert the families they are helping. That was left out for me to find out later.

  • mjsbigblog

Yes. Season 2, she was the first of the finalists to be eliminated.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“My problem with them is that in my country in Europe, they basically lie about being a christian organisation. It’s all about sponsoring a child etc. Nowhere it says that in actuality it’s an evangelical organisation, with the aim to convert the families they are helping.”

I agree. That kind of deception would prevent me from supporting this organization also. I really don’t like charities or charitable actions with “strings attached”, especially when it comes to trying to convert people to a religion or religious beliefs.

  • Pippygirl

I totally agree with you, but I can’t find anyplace that says that is what the organization is doing. In fact on their website they actually say they do not proselytise. However I wouldn’t be surprised if that does happen at times.

The original commentator stated one problem with the organization is that they are paying celebrities instead of using the money for its intended purpose, and my research indicates that they have a good reputation for using donations wisely. I am sure they paid Kris’ expenses for his trip, but whether he received money for going is unknown.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

It is doubtful to me that Kris was paid anything other than expenses and as we saw in the videos and from his blogs, it was hardly lap of luxury accommodations.

I see nothing deceptive in World Vision and the good works they do for people all over the world irrespective to the recipients religious beliefs. Such a shame that shade is cast on them because they identify as a non-denominational Christian organization.

What’s amusing to me is that I first found out about them through a Jewish friend who sponsored a child in my name as my Christmas gift many years ago. She also volunteered with them.

  • MissMyEm

Kris said he did some research on this organization so since I think Kris is pretty intelligent, I am going to assume they are a decent organization.

  • http://twitter.com/DogwoodtiredKat Kat

I wasn’t aware that it was “shameful” to identify as a Christian organization. A pity that posters here are too bigoted and narrow-minded to associate with people who might pass out Bibles along with food and water.

It’s a shame that there are those here who would rather see innocent people suffer rather than have them associate with Christians,

  • HermeticallySealed

That wasn’t the point of their comment, actually.  It’s about organizations that try to hide ulterior motives behind the guise of “charity.” Yes, charity is good, but be up front and honest about your motives if you aren’t being  altruistic.

  • wordnerdarchie

It’s called “throwing the baby out with the bath water”. ;)

This thinly veiled fan war over World Vision is SUPER THINLY VEILED. Let’s move on to something else.

Loved the interview with Kris.  The inspiration behind the song, Where are you Amy, is very heartfelt.  If you have a chance to see Kris, Cale and Chris, on the Out Alive tour, I highly recommend it – they won’t disappoint.  I just hope I get a chance to see them again in 2013.  -:)
