Randy Travis Pleads Not Guilty to Simple Assault Charge – Country superstar Randy Travis has pleaded not guilty to a simple assault charge, after being accused of intervening in a dispute between girlfriend, Mary Beougher, and her estranged husband, reports WFFA. Plano police issued Travis a citation for class C assault outside Prestonwood Baptist Church in August, and on Friday, the Grammy-Award-Winner told his fans to be skeptical of recent accusations against him. In Friday’s hearing, Travis entered his plea and asked the judge for a jury trial. His attorney said the singer was merely trying to defend his girlfriend and another woman. Travis will head to trial on March 11 at 8AM. – Read moer at Extra TV

Kelly Clarkson Spreads Holiday Cheer at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with Musicians On Call Nashville (from the mailbag) – The Christmas spirit was alive and well when the multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson stopped by Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt yesterday afternoon to sing and celebrate the season with patients, staff and families through Musicians On Call (MOC) Nashville. Clarkson, who recently released her Greatest Hits – Chapter One album, visited with the children and performed an acoustic set in the Children’s Hospital Theatre. The songstress led the packed room in a sing-along of her favorite holiday carols including “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer,” “White Christmas,” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.” Clarkson encouraged singing and dancing, and the children were happy to oblige. Following the show, the kind-hearted entertainer generously offered to visit the rooms of patients unable to attend. – Read more at Nashville Gab

The Pulse: Guarini takes hope from Playhouse’s “Life.” – “When I was younger I had trouble sleeping. I would go to bed and … my mind would just be going and my parents got me for Christmas one year this ‘Golden Age of Radio’ tapes,” he told me last week. “I would listen to George Burns and Gracie Allen, Abbott and Costello, the Jack Benny show, and it was so amazing because I realized how people would go, sit in a big studio, and watch people stand in front of a microphone and do this comedy half-hour, and would see the people live making the sound effects at the Foley table.” – Read more at

Nice article and photos of David Cook in Style:Men Magazine, published in Singapore. Love the scary shot! What a face!

James Durbin and Chris Rene will be appearing at the home opener tonight of the Santa Cruz Warriors in conjunction with the Grind Out Hunger organization.
James with be singing the National Anthem.

  • irockhard

I hope someone gets a video of this! He always slays the anthem!

  • justmefornow

    He does, doesn’t he.
I’m sure Heidi or MamaDurbin are on it :)

  • jdanton2

Good to see a Jordin and Melinda  reunion .not popular but  in my opinion Season 6 was the best. here is the link.

  • suenigma

Definitely fun to see them together. Season 6 is not my overall favorite season, but oh how I loved Jordin and Melinda. Melinda’s phrasing and technique are practically perfect, and her performance of My Funny Valentine is, for me, probably the best pure vocal performance on any Idol Stage, ever. Still gives me the shivers. Jordin had the looks, the voice, the youth, the charisma and perhaps most important, the likeability/relatibility – I knew she was going to win from the start. She just had something that I think some of the more recent beautiful diva vocalists have lacked (Pia and Jessica, I’m looking at you). Another year of vocal seasoning and performance experience and Holly might have been able to pull it off.

Just saw a promo for Idol during the Cowboy game. Nikki Minaj telling a guy contestant to take his shirt off. Kara deja vu

David Archuleta’s video “Forevermore” was the #1 most viewed video of the year on the Pinoy MYX Top 20 Countdown.  His “Wait” video was #20.

  • suenigma

That is really impressive journey1! Not only is he the only non-Filipino on the list, but he is on there twice, and he took the top spot! Weirdly, I don’t see “Wait” on the list, but “I’ll Never Go” is #18. Two different lists? He has really touched a chord there. He is the Adele of the Phillipines!

  • milwlovesadam

I really love listening to Slezak and Doolittle. They crack me up, and are so spot on with their feedback. IMHO.

  • Axxxel

It was not Kara who asked the guy to take his shirt off, it was Randy… so it is a Randy deja vu…

  • Axxxel

Nice reality check with Michael Slezak and Melinda… Can Melinda become a reality show judge one day ??

  • DorkAngel-GBW

“Wait” is #20 on the MYX International Top 20 Countdown.

  • suenigma

Oh man, are those lists ever confusing. They need a list of lists. So he is # 1 and #20 on one list, # 1 and #18 on another list, and #4 on a third list. Any way you slice it, he kicked butt. :)

  • journey1

Yes, that is impressive to say the least.  They do love him over there.  Too bad he is not as appreciated here.  It will be interesting to see what happens when he returns in 2014.  I just hope he continues to make music.  I think that is what he wants.  Stardom never seemed to be what he wanted.  I think he is happy just to sing.

  • suenigma

It would be a travesty if David Archuleta doesn’t continue making music when he returns. It is so sad to me that there doesn’t seem to be an easy place for exceptional vocal talent like his to slot into in popular music today. And I’d say the same about David Cook. Maybe if they were flashier, trashier kinds of guys? I just don’t know.

  • lovetheusa1776

Agree.  Melinda was a joy to listen to, and Jordin was my girl as soon as I saw and heard her.  Her potential, IMO, is very bright (and you defined the characteristics that help to set her apart).

Like Axxxel’s post above, too.  Melinda would make a terrific judge – her humor, experience, musical chops all combine to make her someone you’d be interested in listening to.

  • hellomusicgirl

Thanks for posting that article, journey1! I see they finally gave an approximate release date for the next single, indicating “soon” and 2013. I would guess the single and video will be out in January. I’ll be interested in how it fares on the charts there with David having been gone so long at this point. Fans who bought the recently released extended edition of the album have already seen the video, as it was included with the bonus DVD.

In other Archie news, an “official” very nice quality HD video of his duet of “The Prayer” with Rebecca Lopez at an outdoor Christmas show in Santiago, Chile two weeks ago has been uploaded:

I’m not quite sure who this person is that took the video but they had multiple camera angles, including close up and on stage shots so I guess they were part of the production for the event. They also uploaded a clip reel of the whole show on the same channel and indicated that full individual songs would be uploaded as permission was obtained.

Danny Gokey had the last of his Christmas special appearances at various church holiday celebrations this weekend. Cute photo here with kids as there was a bike giveaway to children in the community in addition to a special concert program and the services.

Video has surfaced with Danny singing three Christmas songs this weekend for which I don’t recall media before (usually he does O Holy Night). The songs are Joy to the World, Mary Did You Know, and O Come All Ye Faithful.

Sounds like James nailed the anthem again. Hope a video pops up on YT.

Jacob May ?@JacobBMayI’ve listened to a lot of National Anthems as a sportswriter. None have been better than James Durbin’s. #scscore

  • justmefornow

Here’s the link to the game broadcast. I saw the beginning of it live a few hours ago.
(He sings the NA at about 18 min into the video), and yes he nailed it again :)

  • lovetheusa1776

That was just great – go, James!

  • J

Kelly has such a sweet heart to go with that phenomenal voice of hers.

  • getaway1

Interesting.  Chris Daughtry’s Home was the all time best selling song by an male Idol alum.  That record was shattered this year by Phillip Phillip’s Home.

Phil’s Home currently ranks #4 after Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger, Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats, Jordin Sparks’/Chris Brown’s No Air.

But Home hasn’t peaked yet, so it could still take over one of the above spots.

Ahhh Adam is performing in SG March 8

O-M-G … Adam … Contact Gin Lam School of Dance in Singapore, please.I love those kids. Their dances are more current and go well with Trespassing songs.
Remember .. their Shady and Trespassing Dances ?Here they are …

  • durbesque

That was incredible!  It took me several minutes to recover enough to type this.  It doesn’t make sense that the NA should affect me like this.  It’s not the song.  It’s the singer!

  • suenigma

Very nice job on the NA James. Nice rock vibe.

  • sabbia

Holy crow, G, you are fast! Thanks for the link.

The quality of the audio (muffled mike that I’m assuming it is not just on my end) is a little off but I got the gist of it. Another great job by James. I hope he gets more invitations to do the NA.

  • roarpen

Nice to hear James’ version of the NA again. He does a great job with it. I wish the mike weren’t muffled in that version. But he sounded great, much like he did for the Kings NA.

  • certain1

Nice job Danny. The MDYK is especially intense

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Very nice job on the NA James. Respectful, but an awesome Rock vibe.”

I agree. Very good rendition of the NA with James personalizing it nicely.

  • irockhard

Keely was among thousands of locals who not only saw the team win its debut, but saw an entertainment spectacular that included American Idol finalist James Durbin singing the National Anthem like it was a classic rock tune, trick bicyclists doing daredevil somersaults, indoor fireworks, dance groups from Oakland that had the crowd shrieking for more, the Warrior girls cheer team, Mav’Rick’s, the turtle mascot.

Fans got an extra kick as the hometown rock star, James Durbin, an “American Idol” star in 2011, sang the “Star Spangled Banner” at center court before tip-off.

They moved on to introducing the city’s outgoing and incoming mayors, and the president and the owner of the Golden State Warriors. James Durbin belted out a stirring rendition of the national anthem, and the players took the court accompanied by pyrotechnics.

The muffled mike was kinda sucky but he killed it alright! He really wailed out “the land of the freeeeeeyyyyyyooooooooooooooww”. Still hoping for a better vid to turn up soon.
