Carrie Underwood’s ‘Soul Surfer’ Heads to Church

Carrie Underwood dazzled millions on the small screen as she competed on ‘American Idol,’ and eventually was named the season’s winner in 2005, so there’s no telling how big of an impact she’ll make on the silver screen. The newlywed will make her film debut in the upcoming flick, ‘Soul Surfer,’ but while most star-studded movies premiere in packed theaters, Carrie’s will take place in sanctuaries.

The movie, based on the true story of 13-year old Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm in a surfing accident, is a tale of fierce faith and determination. Because of the positive message geared to audiences of all ages, free previews of the movie are being offered to select church audiences, in hopes that their rave reviews and praise for the flick will help fill movie seats when ‘Soul Surfer’ is officially released on April 15.

Sing-Off Champs Committed Thrilled to Perform with Boyz II Men

“I felt like I was in a dream,” says Geston Pierre, who celebrated along with group members Robbie Pressley, Tommy Gervais, Dennis Baptiste, Maurice Staple and Therry Thomas. “It was surreal. No words can express how I felt when they announced we won.”

“Performing with Boyz II Men was like a dream come true because they’ve been one of our idols for years,” says Thomas.

Adds Stockman, “Committed were the ones who showed up and remained consistent throughout most of the competition and they deserved it.”

‘Sing-Off’ Finale Is Down 18% – but Still Leads NBC to Monday Win

Despite an 18% drop week-to-week, the finale of The Sing-Off was enough to lift NBC to a Monday win. The two-hour episode, which saw Atlanta-based gospel group Committed take the top prize, scored a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.5 million total viewers. That’s up 17% compared to last season’s Sing-Off finale, but down 18% compared to last week to tie its lowest-rated episode of the season.

Pretty fan video matching Danny’s acoustic stripped version of I Will Not Say Goodbye to the movie “Blue Valentine” due out December 27.

OTR was the most entertaining group on The Sing-Off. Their elimination probably had a lot to do with the 18% drop from last week.

I wish I lived closer to Nashville, lol, I’d totally go see the Whiffenpoofs and Street Corner Symphony :)

  • tripp_ncwy

The Oxygen Channel is airing reruns of this season’s The Sing-Off today.

  • gangreen29

That is not very good for NBC that the ratings declined for the finale of The Sing Off. Looks like that show won’t be some savior for NBC like people were proclaiming last week.

I can’t wait to see Carrie on the bigscreen!

me too :( , but I am happy I got to experience the Wiffenpoofs, Street Corner Symphony and On the Rocks on TV this year. Yeah! For that matter, I am really GLAD I saw the Sing off this year. I am totally impressed :)

  • tierbee

Ooh, thank you, I have to clean my living room and can put the “Sing-Off” on – actually my boys Street Corner Symphony are about to perform so good timing!

They should have expected some drop since it’s Christmas week. Peeps out shopping, going to parties, etc., takes a lot of them away from TV. That’s one of the main reasons most prime-time programs are doing reruns now.

  • tierbee

Yeah not everyone is going to set aside two hours when they should be wrapping gifts and such like, ahem, me :) I think they still had a hit on their hands – definitely far more buzz than last year when I sometimes felt like my sister and I were the only people watching.

Now we not only know the Bieber cannot sing, he also cannot read. lol

His attitude sucks. Seems like a typical Hollywood kid…spoiled brat.

Adam and the others were so cute. He’s so dramatic. I could see him tucking in his kids reading the story to them.

  • lili_anne7

That’s kind of disturbing. Can the beiber kid really not read a simple children’s book?

  • koshka

That’s kind of disturbing. Can the beiber kid really not read a simple children’s book?

Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if he had reading issues. But I think it may have more to do with maturity than anything else. Adults are comfortable with themselves, even if they flub up a story, they’ll laugh it off. Beiber had a childish reaction, reminded me of my 6 year old when I tell her its time to do her reading homework and she has issues pronouncing some of the words. If she can’t do something she’ll toss the work aside. Or maybe it is the situation of “Johnny can’t”.

  • sagi

Now we not only know the Bieber cannot sing, he also cannot read

Saddened to say, that is typically how a child who has trouble reading reacts. But I suppose to all his 10-15 year old fans, they are seeing this and squee-ing thinking he is bad ass!

  • birchtree

Saddened to say, that is typically how a child who has trouble reading reacts.

That’s what I took from the clip. He appeared to me like a kid (he is a kid) who was caught in a situation he couldn’t manage. Reminded me of some learning disabled youth I know. It’s a scary thing when you are a poor reader/dyslexic. Maybe that’s what was going on.

Your right, he’s acting like spoiled brat, who don’t like people to see him screw up. I am sure he can read, he’s just embarrassed.

  • Willis

That Buffy reboot is such a bad idea. The original creator wasn’t asked to be involved :(

  • lili_anne7

Saddened to say, that is typically how a child who has trouble reading reacts.

It is sad. I think his parents should have done more to make sure he was properly educated. That’s the downside of being famous at such a young age. He has no incentive to learn since he’s already making a living.

  • goboywonder

Saddened to say, that is typically how a child who has trouble reading reacts.

This is so true. Too bad he didn’t know about the reading before hand. He could have practiced or opted out to save himself from looking bad especially when all the others were such good sports.

  • Kris

That is so cool that David’s version of The First Noel is used in that Christmas lights display.

  • TwigLA

That’s a really cute idea that Kat McPhee had. The video turned out quite well. I like the guy dressed as a Christmas wreath :)

  • kmd

That video of the Christmas lights display that used some of Archie’s The First Noel was really cool. Adam and the others in that Q102 video were cute and good sports. The Biebs was acting like a brat. I think that kid has a major attitude. But I guess it does not matter to his fans.

Question to anyone who might know:

One of the new Idol Season 10 promo commercials, with the judges and possible contestants, ends with a guy and his guitar, but you can’t see the guitarists face. Am I the only one who thinks the guitarist looks like he’s wearing what Kris wore on the Idol tour?

  • tinawina

Y’all are taking the Beebs way too seriously I think. He was clearly joking around. LOL. I see no evidence the kid can’t read. From reading these comments I thought he stomped away in anger or something. He was laughing, so were the radio guys.

  • sass

Loved the kids especially the 2nd graders. So adorable. Thanks to Kat for this Cyber Christmas Carol…cool idea.

  • TwigLA

Nice version of The First Noel from Archie with that Christmas lights display.

On the reading of ‘night before Christmas’, the guy who read the smoking part ‘go Santa!’ seemed like he was really getting into the book and wanted to read it all. It’s amazing to me it seemed most of them never heard or read that story before. It makes me realize that everything is computers and TV these days and families don’t read together. Sad.

On Bieber, he just seemed like a typical teen boy. He doesn’t want to be caught reading a children’s book. Reading out loud is a learned skill, and reading something for the first time can be difficult for even the most seasoned.

  • Soberba

Yeah, Bieber can read (I think). What happened was he tried to act cool, but he acted like a child (well, that’s what he is, lol).

No kidding, tinawina! I wasn’t going to watch it (I’m glad I did) but then when I saw the comments, I had to see for myself. I’m amazed how much people read (no pun intended) into things.

  • lorismile

I never said he couldn’t read. I just called him a spoiled brat.

    Yes it’s Kris.

About the Beebs, I think he can read. He was just trying to be “cool”.

  • tinawina

I don’t even see spoiled brat or acting cool. He started out half laughing, tripped over a word (maybe because he was giggling too much?) then mock threw the book down, making the host and everyone in the background crack up. Beiber was laughing too. Then he wished everyone a Merry Christmas, and it seemed sincere enough to me. Everyone was smiling.

Now, he is a little snit I totally agree, I just don’t think he actually did anything this time.

But perhaps me and TwigLA are alone on this one. That’s cool. **mock throws computer down, stomps off** :D

I get so much of “this is baby work”, “this is too easy”, and “I’m too cool for this” behavior with my sped students who btw, actually can’t read or do the work, and I read way too much into it. Glad that’s not the case with JB.

That was cool of Paul Tudor Jones to do that display. David’s First Noel is gorgeous. I wish I could hum that pretty. lol

I cannot imagine how much work that was for the crew to set up and synchronize the whole display, but it is way cool.

I was getting into the Night Before Christmas reading and then Bieber blew it. It looks like someone was making him giggly and then he up and quit the reading.. poor sport. :(
