Menà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Club being sued for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Stripper Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ show name

Simon Cowell would much rather be a judge of this competition! FremantleMedia, the corporation that created à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is suing the owners of the Palazio Menà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Club in Texas, TMZ.com reports. The suit is over a $500 stripper competition they held called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Stripper Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ In the lawsuit, filed this week in U.S District Court in Texas, Fremantle claims Palazioà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s competition, which allegedly used Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name and trademarked logo, has tarnished the singing showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s good name. Fremantle is looking to strip away the clubà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s profits from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“S.I.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ along with collecting on all damages sustained and legal fees accrued from the suit.

‘American Idol’ coming to Disney World

Starry-eyed singers who dream of being discovered — like Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson or Clay Aiken — will have a chance when a new “American Idol” attraction opens in February at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Or, if singing on stage doesn’t appeal, visitors to the theme park’s new attraction can make like Simon Cowell or Paula Abdul by taking on the role of judge in the live, interactive competition.

The attraction, scheduled to open Feb. 12 at a time when attendance and revenues are down at the Orlando theme park, was announced today in a joint statement by Disney Parks and Resorts and producers/creators of the phenomenally popular “American Idol” TV show, Fremantle Media Licensing and 19 Entertainment.

A number of idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s this year were nominated for Grammyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Jennifer Hudson, Carrie, Fantasia. I was wondering your thoughts on that. Obviously, you must be proud.
You know what? I absolutely love it when that happens à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ (a) because they deserve it and (b) I was referring to this earlier on: Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so much snobbery in the music business about what we do on these shows and I know how upset they all get, so I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fantastic.

‘Rock of Ages’ locks Broadway run

“Rock of Ages,” the Off Broadway tuner that draws its score from a variety of 1980s rock hits, will jump to Broadway in the spring with a reduced pricing plan and in-seat cocktail service.

Show will sit out the industrywide January doldrums by shuttering at Off Broadway’s New World Stages Jan. 4, then begin Rialto perfs at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in March.

As many producers tout discounted tickets to encourage legit biz in what’s shaping up to be a particularly chilly winter, “Rock” arrives on Broadway with lower-than-usual pricetags already in place.

Tickets for the Rialto incarnation of the tuner will range from $46.50 to $99, with a top ticket price of $89 on weeknights and $99 for weekend perfs. (Most musicals on the Main Stem top out at around $120; “Billy Elliot” stretches up to $135.)

CD Salesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Coldest Winter: December Numbers Plummeting

As is becoming an annual winter tradition, CD sales are having yet another icy December, with sales down 21.7 percent compared to the first week of December 2007. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard to blame this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s slate of releases, as the Top 10 albums are selling better than their counterparts last year. So whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s to blame? Review: KISS 108 FM Jingle Ball 2008 keeps rollinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ along

Due to an unfortunate bout of commuter exodus traffic, my companion and I arrived at the Tsongas Arena too late to catch opener Lady Gaga. Instead, we were treated to the menthol-cool vocal styling of David Archuleta, 17, a former American Idol runner-up. I was quite proud of myself for knowing this small slice of sonic trivia, though less so for legitimately enjoying his performance of current single, “Crush.” Evidently, I was not alone: everywhere screaming throngs of suburban teenage girls paid tribute to their inoffensive, non-threatening teen idol by cloaking themselves in matching sets of jean skirts, purple leggings, oversized UGG boots and David Archuleta t-shirts. Scarier? Their moms were dressed the same way.

Nigel Lythgoe has spoken out about the lack of impressive dancers in the UK.

The American Idol producer is preparing to launch his new reality dance competition, Superstars Of Dance, which sees masters of various dance genres from around the world compete against each other. But the UK is a noticeable absence in the line-up.

“There aren’t really any outstanding dance groups that I know of at the moment that could compete in. I’m sure that’ll change and I’d love it to see it change, but not at this moment in time, in the short amount of time we had to get this together.”

Hallelujah set to be a Christmas No 1 and 2

If the fans behind an audacious internet download campaign get their way, the 74-year-old Canadian could find his 1984 anthem Hallelujah making chart history by becoming the first song to hit the top two slots at the same time.

And second place is almost within the posthumous grasp of Jeff Buckley. The American singer-songwriter, who drowned in 1997, recorded what some believe to be the definitive version of Cohen’s Old Testament-informed love song for his 1994 album Grace.

Such is the awe in which Buckley’s cover is held that horrified fans from all over the world embarked on a campaign to get it to No 1 as soon as it emerged that Hallelujah would be released as a single by the X Factor winner.

If the overall album sales have crashed from last Christmas, it seems the Idols are doing even better overall, since they weren’t that prominent last Christmas (Jordin was slow out of the gate, and Blake didn’t do that well, plus it had been a while since any other big Idol release came out).

I received the Dec 22 issue of TV Guide yesterday, and inside are not one, not two, but three blurbs on Cookie:

A revisit of the lovely “fake album photo” they did of the Top 4 back in April. Which, I might add, is much much nicer than the one he got stuck with. The caption: “This was the faux disc for Idol victor David Cook, who couldn’t look more natural as a chart-shattering, YouTube dominating rock-and-roll heartthrob.” Couldn’t agree more.

Cute pic from that Disney World photo shoot he kept cracking up during. A few typically lame questions I’m too lazy to type, except this one about buying gifts for the family this year with his new-found cash:

Q:Better cough up some big gifts!
A: I know, right? I lucked out the last couple years, since I was definitely under the poverty line.

And he made the “Year in Cheers and Jeers” article: “CHEERS to David Cook for bringing genuine emotion to American Idol. The heart-tugging story of his brother Adam’s battle against brain cancer made the rocker’s victory even more bittersweet. Besides, anyone who can wring tangible angst out of pop dross like Lionel Richie’s ‘Hello’ and Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby,’ deserves to be worshipped.”

Oh, I forgot one. He’s playing the Las Vegas New Year’s show on FOX (which we knew) and they list him as “The Big Draw.”

If you’re rushing out to the store to find a copy, it’s the one with How I Met Your Mother‘s Barney and Friends on the cover.

Not to be contentious or to minimize Cookie’s acheivements or anything, but “Hello” was already full of palpable angst. It’s just that the song has been around so long, and Lionel Richie had become so irrelevant to current pop culture (being eclipsed by one’s offspring, regardless of the level of talent can do that — just ask Billy Ray Cyrus) that the song in it’s original state seemed stale.

“Always Be My Baby” was a good song when Mariah did it (and she IS still somewhat relevant), but I didn’t hear Cook do his version on Idol, so I can’t comment on the worship-worthiness of that.

Also, good luck to Constantine and the cast of “Rock of Ages” for their upcoming move to Broadway.

    Stars’ Most Regrettable Moments

    SOUR NOTE
American Idol’s top 5 contestant Jason Castro had performed the first of two songs during a Neil Diamond-themed episode in April when Paula Abdul told him, “The second song, I felt like your usual charm was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty and the two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four.” Oops! Later, she called the gaffe “an honest mistake.”

Lionel’s Hello wasn’t so much angsty as whiney. The video was crazy velveeta cheesy.

Confession: I love me some old school Mariah, and I flove Always Be My Baby, BUT, I always just thought of it as fun, airy pop, and never ever noticed the longing in the lyrics until DC’s haunting interpretation. Haha, I can’t believe I always bopped/sang along to the chorus without realizing that the “Baby” had actually left! I thought it was a happy love song [slaps forehead]. How I missed that “now you wanna be free” or “you’ll be back again” lines, I really don’t know. But yeah, I flove DC’s version more than Mariah’s now.

I actually wasn’t familiar with Hello but DC’s performance that night totally got my attention because it was just plain good IMO. I enjoyed his audition, but didn’t notice DC until that night. I’ve since listened to Lionel’s version, and you know, I think the basic tune of the original was still pretty good, but oh boy did I not enjoy the whininess/cheesiness of it all…

this is kinda interesting about the RIAA and music downloading..

    http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/patterson/31678

At last, the music industry admits what we’ve known for years: That filing music-swapping lawsuits against teenagers, little old ladies, and corpses is a fool’s errand (not to mention an expensive headache for the defendants). But don’t worryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the RIAA has something new up its sleeves.
The new strategy (as reported by the Wall Street Journal): If the music industry finds out that you’re swapping music files online, it’ll send an e-mail to your ISP (agreements have already hashed out agreements with “some” unnamed service providers, apparently), which will in turn forward the message to youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ probably with a little “P.S.” asking you to stop. [Update: CNET has a copy of the RIAA's form letter to ISPs.]

If you don’t stop, well … your service provider probably won’t sue you, but it might slow down your broadband connection, or cut off your service altogether.

American Idol is teh second worst tv program this year according to EW:

    THE WORST:
    2. AMERICAN IDOL (Fox)

The combination freak show/amateur hour rolls on, crushing its time-period competition and not declining in ratings fast enough for my taste. Of course, my taste also includes a predi lection for music that hasn’t been strangled by osten tatious mannerisms. And since history suggests that the also-rans can become bigger stars than the winners, who cares about a competition that’s increasingly meaningless in every way?
