No need to explain, but FYI I'm right! If 95% of the people voting for Adam were his uber-fans linking from his fansites, it is a logical assumption that 95% of the ratings would be very high, thus giving him a MUCH higher average rating than 62. It's elementary my dear May.

Probably too late to respond, but now I see the problem. You are referring to the % of people actually RATING Adam and I was referring to the percentage of people voting FOR Adam (as in PRO) Adam. I'm confused. Isn't knowing the percentage of favorable votes from spammers vs. casuals ulitmately the more important number? The poll is about who matters, not who you know enough about to vote for. However, your clarification would explain why your math is so elementary my dear will . That poll is a flip-page poll so casual people visiting the site will probably try to rate everyone they know well enough. Therefore, it's strange for twice as many people to be rating Adam as the president. The only way to explain that is that a percentage of fans (at least 50%) are directly getting to Adam's page by a link (or a spammer is saving the page and going back to it repeatedly and bypassing the others). I'm sure others will assume differently but that's my assumption. Anyway, if you do the math, the % of favorable votes that are due to spamming can end up anywwhere in the range of 75% to 99.99% and the average score given by casual people ends up being about 25%.

Well please explain it to me. Because your assumption is that anyone who is not an Adam fan would be voting negatively for him and statistically that would not be accurate. I am a numbers guy and unless there is a new math out that has not been discussed then his take is correct
.
Dhunken, short of being psychic, there is no way you can know what assumption I made, but see above. I may not be a numbers "guy" but I definitely know numbers. Also, if you are talking about the number of people RATING Adam, there's no way I could mathematically get that percentage to 95% spammers even if I assumed that everyone else was giving him a score of zero...therefore not sure how you thought I made that assumption.

But the media loves him...a lot. And the list goes on: The Hollywood Gossip:Celebrity of the Year Finalist #5: Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga!
http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2009/12/celebrity-of-the-year-finalist-5-adam-lambert-and-lady-gaga/

As 2010 draws near, The Hollywood Gossip staff looks back on the year that was, honoring finalists for our prestigious, 3rd Annual Celebrity of the Year award. These stars have given us their best, their worst, their off-the-wall antics and in the case of these two, an immediate, but lasting impact on the music world. It's time for THG to pay tribute to this greatness. Yesterday, the '09 countdown featured lots of Tiger Woods mistresses at #6. Today, we present Celebrity of the Year Finalist #5: Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga! He started the year as an unknown; made headlines in February for his flamboyant acts; finished second on American Idol; and has to already be considered one of the most successful singers in the show's history. Adam Lambert hasn't merely made a name for himself in 2009, he's created a cult following in fewer than 12 months. Hated by some and embraced by others, the crooner managed to handle his sexuality with both subtle grace AND over-the-top exploits. Adam has more in common with Lady GaGa than unique fashion taste and controversial performances. Both are well-spoken in interviews and deadly serious about their craft. Lambert made out with a man at the American Music Awards, but 2009 will be best remembered as the year he made off with the title of Most Fascinating Singer Alive. It's only fitting that these dynamic performers share the #5 spot on our end-of-year countdown.

I'd rather he had been established as a singer performer, so that he can keep on giving inspiration to people like Trevor.

Well those things all take time, give it a few years (or even just a year) and it will be pretty obvious what's more important to him. Lady Gaga is a good example of someone who was percieved as an autotuned no talent performer but has proven time and time again that she is really a very gifted singer, musician, songwriter and performer.

That new David Cook album? The one where he whistles the national anthem with a syncopated R&B backtrack courtesy of Claude Kelly?

Oh wow - where can I go buy 20 copies?!

On a more serious note:

WinkS8 - your post on your young friend Trevor was very moving and yes, it's great that someone like Lambert can be in the national spotlight on a show such as Idol and become important to him.

Those personal stories are always touching - and in those is where the importance of Lambert's story this year lies, absolutely.

But to me, they (the media) are totally overdoing it and are in danger of creating a negative reaction, rather than the positive one they might hope for, because everything with Lambert comes down to the fact that he is gay - everything. And therefore everything in response to Lambert gets forced into two narrow channels, pro and anti gay, when in reality it just is not that simple

He has the talent to be a success story from AI - not the only success story or the only AI singer who has ever mattered, but a success story nevertheless.

At the moment, it seems to me that his establishment by the media as the ultimate symbol of the repression of gay artists/people is far far more his story, than him as a singer and a performer.

It's certainly garnered attention, but where is he as an artist in the middle of all this?

To his fans, I have no doubt as an artist he is right there at the forefront. But honestly, if I didn't frequent AI boards, I don't think I know much about him other than that he's the gay AI bloke who causes controversy - and that just wouldn't interest me from a music point of view, no matter how politically valid and important the argument is.

Oh my! Do you mean there were over-invested fans of David A. and David C. last year? Looks like Archie's fans won this poll. lol

Alas - there were! :lol

But I can hand on heart state that I've never voted on one - and that I think that those who did were nuts: unless it's one of those 'who's the best Idol' ones, in which case they were just wasting their time.

Luckily, there weren't any best of the decade polls last year, it not being the end of a decade and all.

Fortunately, a lot of that stuff has fallen away now. Makes me hopeful that the transition from 'Idol Star' to musician is fully underway.

Again, if what you say were true, Adam's overall rating would be at at least 95. Nope, just checked, it's still at 62.

I just realized that Peggy Noonan would give Adam a rating of 100, as he is single-handedly causing the downfall of Western Civilization. So rating him 'very important' is not necessarily a compliment.

I found your posts very charming and witty :D

Loved the bubbletweet. Brings back good memories of all the bubbletweets they did on tour

Adam was just interviewed on KIIS here in L.A., although I think that was recorded from when he was there yesterday (I had already heard the mac&cheese question) WWFM was #3 on the Top 9 at 9
