Glee: Why Kurt and Blaine Haven’t Kissed Yet

“That’s the greatest part about it,” Criss told me last night at the Trevor Project benefit. “It’s this wonderful dance—dancing that fine line which ultimately is more enticing than the actual thing.”

Not that Gleeks would mind if the so-called actual thing happened already. Don’t forget to show your support by joining our hashtag campaign on Twitter: #kurtblaineKISSalready.

Smooching aside, Criss says the duet was inspired by a Dean Martin rendition of the holiday classic. “Isn’t it sweet?,” he said of his Colfer’s performance. “I thought it was really well done and cute and really sincere. I think Chris sounds so wonderful on it.”

Cowell Denies X Factor Fix Claim

Simon Cowell has defended The X Factor from claims that Sunday’s results show was a fix, saying: “We haven’t done anything wrong.”

Fans have been angered by the decision to let the judges pick which act went home from the bottom two on Sunday, leading to the departure of popular contestant Mary Byrne. At the same stage in previous years, viewers got to decide which singers went through to the final.

Some viewers have accused the ITV1 show of making the change to allow Cher Lloyd, 17, to get into next weekend’s final rather than Byrne.

But Cowell told The Sun: “We haven’t done anything wrong. All the artists knew there was going to be a sing-off. Mary and Cher were told last Monday to prepare a song for a sing-off if necessary.”

Exclusive: “Glee”‘s Chris Colfer is Living the Teenage Dream

After a little joking about what he gets if he wins – he said he’d like a pony, and if he gets one, he’ll definitely name him “Elton” – the conversation turned to the the clip of Blaine (Darren Criss) singing “Teenage Dream” to Colfer’s character, Kurt. The clip was, and is, solidly in the lead for “Best gay moment of the year,” even ahead of the overturning of Prop 8 and the “It Gets Better” anti-bullying campaign, for which Colfer made a video.

“I have to tell them all that I so appreciate that,” he said, “But I think that the ‘It Gets Better’ campaign and the federal court decision overturning Prop 8 are much more important.” Still, he agreed, both “Teenage Dream” and the more recent, holiday-themed “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” feature a kind of flirtatious singing that’s unlike anything ever seen between two high school boys on television before, and he definitely understands why moments of visibility like that are important to GLBT youth.

Q&A: ‘Glee’ Creator Ryan Murphy Reveals Plans for Rest of Season

Looking at the other nominations for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, two of the other songs are the original versions of songs that have been performed on Glee: Paramore’s “The Only Exception” and Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.”
I know, and looking at that group we’re actually covering one of the other nominees: we’re doing Maroon 5′s “Misery.” There’s only one nominee in that category we haven’t done, so that was funny to us.

What can you reveal about “Misery”?
“Misery” is a track that Blaine (Darren Criss) is going to do with the Warblers. I’m friendly with Adam Levine, and he texted me saying, ‘I think it’s time we get Maroon 5 on Glee.’ I said, ‘I agree, I think it’d be great.’ I love that song, I love Adam’s performance on that song, so we’re doing that in an upcoming spring episode.

In a shift of power among the major record companies, Barry Weiss, a top executive at Sony Music Entertainment, has signed a new deal with Universal Music Group, the industry leader and Sony’s chief competitor.

The move, which has been rumored in the music industry for weeks, was confirmed on Tuesday morning by a spokeswoman at the RCA/Jive Label Group, the division of Sony where Mr. Weiss is chairman and chief executive.

Lee has another radio show today at Monterey, CA:

I think no one knew about this until Lee tweeted last night:

Hip-hop sensation Travie McCoy and American Idol season seven finalist David Archuleta will perform on Fox’s New Year’s Eve Live.

Usually some of the current Idols get that gig. So, either Lee/Crystal have something better to do that night or Fox is pretending they don’t exist. Time will tell.

  • Valentin432

Kelly looks beautiful. Is her new album going country?

Nope, I doubt she will do a country album until she leaves RCA.
She just prefers to hang out with her friends from the country music world.

  • frogcooke

Awww the big cats thing is neat! Also cool about the new years eve thing.

  • Tess

Yea, a gig for Archie that isn’t charity related!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Kelly looks beautiful! Cool that she performed with Reba and Miranda at the after party. Nice to see that Archie got a high profile appearance on FOX’s New Year’s Eve show.

The AMA’s and NBC/Rockefeller forgot they exist so hey whats one more? Doesnt matter that the winner has done this every year. Well Daughtry did it his year but it was still a 19M Idol. Dont get me wrong I’m happy for Archie and I want him to have good promo, but seriously WTF?

Giant Center Dec 9th, @KrisAllen will perform at Jingle Ball including Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Justin Bieber, The Fray, Ke$ha… http://on.fb.me/fxqrrx

I don’t think this is legit. The Jingle Ball is happening, but none of these people are listed on Hershey’s site, and I think Justin is still on his UK tour. It sounds like a ticket agent is just trying to scam people.

Didn’t Billboard take over producing the Fox New Year’s show? If they are doing it again this year, then it’s not really a case of Fox snubbing Lee or Crystal. If I was those two, I’d rather be on ABC or NBC’s shows, since they get higher ratings, and actually show more (and bigger) acts.

Nice gig for David to do the Fox NYE show. It does seem odd Lee or Crystal haven’t been announced for one of the NYE shows, but they could easily be added later. Kris is in NYC this week for some private performance, but no one seems to know what it is exactly.

‘I can’t even take the Tube’: Terrified Katie Waissel is still struggling to cope after X Factor death threats

Katie added that she tried to turn to mentor Cheryl Cole for help, but felt the judge was too wrapped up in her own problems, so she instead asked Louis Walsh for help.

She said: ‘Cheryl told me not to read the papers and she was nice but she had her own problems. This show has been tough for her.

‘Cheryl and I didn’t have long chats – she would just advise me not to read the papers and say she had had a hard time too. She’s very focused, which you have to be. I don’t have her mobile number so I don’t know if we will keep in touch. I admire her.

‘But Louis was my absolute favourite. He gave me his mobile number and I’ll definitely keep in touch. He understood how awful it was for me to be painted in a way I could do nothing about.’

And Katie also said she struggled to make friends with her fellow X Factor contestants during her time on the show.

She explained: ‘With people from the house slagging me off, there was nowhere I could drop my guard. Matt Cardle thought I had sold a story about him. I couldn’t convince him otherwise. After that, he lashed out at me in the press, which really hurt.

‘Aiden was his best friend and laid into me too. I was an easy target. There were two people who I liked and trusted: Mary and Rebecca. They are the loveliest people. Apart from that I was on my own and it was terrifying.’

Archie’s with 19R. So glad that he got the FOX NYE gig. He could use the promo. And why not promote a tween star from the Idol ranks. Go Archie!

Kelly looks great. So looking forward to her next album. Why not leverage her country ties? Her manager is Reba’s husband. She clearly got a huge response at the CMAs. She can cross over nicely whilst still remaining firmly pop/rock.

Yes, I think Lee will definetly be there and maybee Crystal too.
Too soon to tell for sure of course.

Kelly looks great. So looking forward to her next album. Why not leverage her country ties? Her manager is Reba’s husband. She clearly got a huge response at the CMAs. She can cross over nicely whilst still remaining firmly pop/rock.

IMO, I don’t think Kelly wants to do a country album. She listens to every style of music and has a lot of ties to the country world (more than with pop artists) but she has never said explicitly that she will do a country album.

Also, I’m not sure how crossing over to country while still remaining a pop/rock artist would work.
Country artists crossing over to pop happen sometimes but I never heard of pop/rock songs being played on country radio.

  • SashaB

I’m not saying Kelly will do a country album. However, why not leverage the audience. Adele is certainly not a country star. She just performed on CMT with Lady Antebellum. Crossing over does not mean being a country star. Carrie crossed over into pop with “Before He Cheats” but still remained country.

  • tripp_ncwy

I don’t know about too soon. Didn’t the official announcement of Kris & Allison being on the Fox NYE show come today (12/7) like it did today for David. It had already been rumored but I think it became official on this date.

  • Valentin432

Crossing over does not mean being a country star. Carrie crossed over into pop with “Before He Cheats” but still remained country.

I’m all for leveraging the audience and trying to use the connections she has in the country world to reach more people, but I don’t see how she would do that while still recording a pop rock album. Adele didn’t perform her next single (great one for anyone interested), she performed Need You Know as a tribute to Lady A (with Darius Rucker).
Yes, a few Country artists (Lady A, Carrie, Taylor) have had cross over success, (and it’s a bit overblown IMO, since for Carrie and Lady A it’s basically one song), but to my knowledge country radio has never played pop/rock artists and they don’t perform on country award shows either.
Nashville is its own world and it’s very hard to penetrate.

  • oceana

At one time, Reba’s husband was Kelly’s manager. Is that still the case? Kelly’s close to Reba who was her hero before Kelly made it big. Kelly has country roots, I don’t see her making a country cd but I could see her having a crossover song or two on a cd when she sheds RCA and doesn’t have to be so ultra-popified.

I haven’t been following Idol lately but wonder if there’s any news about Casey or David Cook, like when their cds might come out? Can’t wait for those.

Great news for David and the New Years show and the tree lighting in Sacramento tonight. He has been very busy, maybe we’re starting to see the fruits of his new management, WEG.

Happy about the Nat Geo spot, David said he wanted to be a zoo keeper in his younger years so this must have been cool for him to do.

  • heidijoy

Happy for David A and his fans that he has been invited to sing tonight @ the tree lighting @ the Capital by the Governer and his wife. They were @ the Grove when he sang there.
Also love that he’s singing on Fox New Years. He’ll be performing in Anaheim on Dec 29 the day after he turns 20.

Also happy about the Nat Geo spot. Forgot about the zoo keeper story. Fans are having fun with the “Hush Cats” memory!!

He’s a busy little bee the rest of this month. Can’t wait for the Mo Tab concert!!

You’re right, Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock are two artists that have had some success in country music. Maybee there is a song that will have the kind of cross over success All Summer Long had.

In the case of Bon Jovi, I think Kelly and Reba duet of “Because Of You” is a similar situation. A pop/rock act that pairs up with a country star to do a country version of one of its hits.

Country artists crossing over to pop happen sometimes but I never heard of pop/rock songs being played on country radio.

I think if rock acts cross over to a significant extent they try to; they will identify themselves as “country”. Like Darius Rucker, Kid Rock, not really sure about Sheryl Crow- haven’t followed her music lately. Does she really get any radio play? I know she pops up on the occasional award show. Uncle Kracker only crossed over because he teamed up with a country artist. Jaron and the Long Road, blah, blah (hate that name, lol) had the one hit Pray for You that wasn’t country- more of a novelty, funny song. IMO, kind of like the naked Scotsman song you hear a lot on Country radio. And Soul Sister by Train (country remake) really didn’t go anywhere, as big of a hit as it was on pop.

So, basically, I agree it is unlikely for Country radio to pick up pop/rock singers just because it’s a good song. They are a very insular group, I agree it would be difficult for Kelly to put out country songs (unless she is teamed up with a hot country person like Reba or Jason Aldean).

  • Grammie Kari

I am sure Lee and Crystal will be singing somewhere on New Years Eve – not necessarily together.

I immediately thought of Sheryl Crow, with or without Kid Rock. Didn’t Bon Jovi perform “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” on American Idol without Jennifer Nettles?

Did they? Since last year? I was going to say after watching the last two years for David Cook and Kris and Allison, I’m far from impressed with this show and really don’t think it means to much to be one there. I still have to giggle at Evil Kneval’s (sp?) son from two years ago. The build up was so big and a little while after it was finally done, one of the kids at our party said, when is that guy going to jump? LOL. I only watched Kris and Allie sing last year and can’t remember what other things were featured.

So unless Billboard’s really revamped the show, Lee and Crystal are not missing out on much. JMO, YMMV. (And yes, I realize any TV exposure is good…I just don’t think missing it is bad).

Well yeah I agree the Fox NYE show sucks BUT for me that’s not the point. When a show, the last FOUR years has clearly had some connection to Idol/19E by showcasing the current winner and/or runner-up and suddenly that’s not the case it just bugs me a little. (ditto for the AMA’s which goes even further back in Idol history )Especially in Lee’s case because he can needs all the promo he can get. Its also kind of ironic this is a FOX special, Fox who seems to be trying to go with the whole winning matters meme by the latest promos. FWIW I said the other day when it came out that the last gig for Lee’s band for the rest of the year was the Florida thing I suspected he wouldn’t be doing it.

  • pineappletree

I think any special on TV is good for exposure, and Lee and Crystal need it to be honest. This is Fox, who has had the winners perform each year, but this year they are having Archie. Great for Archie; bad for Lee and Crystal. It doesn’t look good when Fox/19 are already ignoring Lee. I wonder how he will be portrayed on Idol this season.

    Wow, David A is everywhere!
The video clip on Nat Geo Wild is of high quality. David has been building his name in a respectful way and his new management also pushes that way; a young, clean-cut role model who CAN SING!!
He personally loves to commit his gigs for charities especially in the holiday season. I remember last year, he sang Christmas songs in an Independent Living for elderly residents right before his Christmas concert on a cold, cold day (with no camera crew). Nobody knew it until a daughter of a resident there uploaded her cell video in her facebook. After his singing, he went around to talk with everyone. Such a great guy. He just knows how to use his gift.

I don’t know how anyone stood watching the damn thing long enough to *see* David Cook — I mean, I’m a huge Cook fan and I could barely stand it and I *definitely* only kept watching to see him. Gawd, it was unbearable.

  • cmom

I think it is great for Archie and for anyone to be on any of the NYE shows. I know that I and my early-20′s kids flip from show to show to watch whatever acts are on at any given moment. I doubt anyone is sitting in front of the tv and just watching one of the shows, regardless of which gets the hightest ratings. At the stroke of midnight I even flip from one to another to see who is announcing, etc. The more shows on, the better to see great artists, whether a huge star or not. For every one huge star, idol or not, there are 100 very cool musicians/singers that I hope to see on New Year’s. Otherwise, it would be boring. I would really love to see Crystal or Carly Smithson or Jason C (not to mention Cook, Archie, Adam or Kris) on any of the shows on NYE.

Adam Lambert: Acoustic Live! (19 Recordings) With its red, white & blue cover signifying his allegiance to the American Way, and the fingers of his hand helpfully pointing out that this is his second major release, former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert is back–offering up five songs, three of which aren’t bad at all, the other two better than anything else people from that show have ever offered, so why quibble? As a special bonus, if you sit where I sit at work, you never even have to play this thing to hear it repeatedly! Fave anagrams: Bad Meal Mart, Mama Lard Bet, Bald Meat Ram!

In looking at last year’s sales figures for Allison and Kris after the New Year, it doesn’t seem to have helped much. Allison had a -64% decrease and Kris had a -71% decrease. Single sales went down too. Those were pretty much average decreases for that week for other acts too. All the idol alums albums decreased between 60 and 75%.

    http://mjsbigblog.com/idol-sales-news-%E2%80%9C-week-ending-010310.htm#more-14614

Going back to the Cook times…Cook’s album decreased 70% and Archie’s by 75%. Pretty much the same as the other idols decreases.

So, long story short, doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to perform on the Fox NYE show.

  • Kris

David A. didn’t perform on the Fox NYE show. He actually didn’t perform on any televised NYE shows.

  • mhel

omg!!! this is soooo much fun!lots of promotion for our big D…i just wanna see and enjoy the epicness of mister david archuleta…can’t really wait for the fox nye thingy….i’ve been watching that show every year! and i must say, i enjoyed it for the past years…now, it would be more exciting cuz david a. will be performing, wooot!

  • pineappletree

So, long story short, doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to perform on the Fox NYE show.

Then why do they have them? Why do top acts perform on them? I thought all exposure is good.

  • djafan

lol…A NYE appearance on any channel is a plus in my book, the alternative is no appearance. I also have never sat and watched one show, Dick Clark or not. I jump around looking for the artists I’m interested in watching and TIVO what I can.

Yes, he seems to be doing quite a bit of promotion, I see so many interviews and performances here. He is popular so I don’t understand why his music isn’t doing better. I think though this is good groundwork that will pay off later.

Interesting that some just can’t give David his props. He is everywhere and everyone agrees he can sing. I think this is the groundwork :)

So, long story short, doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to perform on the Fox NYE show.

I think the declines in album sales has to do with how the week after Christmas is a huge selling week (mostly singles but also albums). Kids are often using up the iTunes cards and other Christmas money they receive during Christmas. IIRC, there is a pretty good spike the week after Christmas, thus making it somewhat realistic that there will be a rather steep decline the first week of January (i.e., after the Fox NYE shows). I’m not saying that that’s the only reason for the decline — but it does play a part. Also, as we all have learned over the years of following album sales in these here parts, January is just the doldrums throughout the industry in terms of music sales — and they usually don’t trend up again until after the Grammys.

Oh, I agree with you completely. The question was did it make a difference in sales to appear on the FOX NYE show. I was just saying that the idols that did experienced pretty much the same sales decrease as those who didn’t. That week is notoriously horrible for sales. Pretty much all of January is horrible.

While I think it hasn’t shown a big difference in sales for Idols in the past, it definitely increases exposure for the artists and promotion and exposure is never a bad thing. Especially for Lee and Crystal who are a little more under the radar than past idols, it may be a bigger help to them than in the past.

  • songsungblue

What exactly does it mean to release Crystal’s music to Triple A formats? I don’t think I understand :(

  • Trina

Interesting that some just can’t give David his props. He is everywhere and everyone agrees he can sing. I think this is the groundwork

No one is not giving David props, some of us are just pointing out that its odd they seem to be going a different route this year. Lee needs promo, but Archie is not selling a ton of CD’s either so I’m so certainly not begrudging him any promo coming his way.

What exactly does it mean to release Crystal’s music to Triple A formats? I don’t think I understand :(

It means that’s the radio format Jive is targeting for her songs to get radio play. AAA stands for Adult Album Alternative. This definition is from RadioStationWorld: “Adult alternative
Also known as AAA, this genre offers a hybrid of modern rock, progressive, alternative and classic rock music aimed at an older target audience that both modern rock and active rock. ”

I think it’s a format with less listeners than Top 40 and HAC. If you look at the allaccess mediabase charts, the #1 songs in formats have spins of and estimated audience of the following:

Top 40: #1 Rihanna, Only Girl in the World, 11,840 spins, audience impression of 74.72 million

HAC: #1 Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars, 4300 spins, audience impression of 25.22 million

AAA: #1 Radioactive by Kings of Leon, 486 spins, audience impression of 2.33 million

I am so glad to see all this David A. news. The FOX NYE show is good promo for him. I just knew that his new management WEG was going to help him get more appearances and promo. They are laying the groundwork for David. It is not just about his being on the FOX show. I see him finally moving in a good direction for his career. Way to go Archie.

  • tierbee

Of course it’s good to be on a televised NYE show! There as just a question r/e album sales after those shows/due to those shows, unless I misread it. Being on the TV on the show is promotion. Promotion is good. Good for Archie to get some promotion!!

  • bridgette12

Interesting that some just can’t give David his props. He is everywhere and everyone agrees he can sing. I think this is the groundwork

I think people know he can sing and all of this promo is great. But his problem is, his singles and album is not selling. If it wasn’t for his Christmas album, he wouldn’t have any sales. Archie is great at singing other people’s music, but his own music is pretty bland and the amount of sales so far shows it.

  • ross

The question didn’t mention sales. The question was, does anyone have any info on what appearing on the Fox NYE show did for them (Cook, Kris, Allsion). Actually, CindyM, you only said what appearing on the show failed to do for them.

I don’t think anyone can actually say what an appearance does for an artist with any accuracy. As Keel and pineapple mentioned, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.

Who knows when the payoff might be? Someone who sees an artist on TV may attend that artist’s concert one year later, buy an album or merch then. Or may buy nothing, but may tell a few friends about how good the performance was. Basically, any exposure is worth it. It may not bring instant results, but that’s not really the point.

  • Kris

Yeah, Kmd. Its nice to see how busy David is this month. Even though I won’t be able to attend any of the MOTAB shows, I can’t wait to hear about it. That is going to be amazing. Hopefully, promotion will continue on next year. I’m very interested in seeing what WEG has in store for David.

  • djafan

“but his own music is pretty bland and the amount of sales so far shows it.”

This to me is a matter of opinion. His music, melodies, lyrics, not to mention vocals are fresh and catchy, I love “his” music. He is also a dynamic concert performer. I’ve seen him live several times and he never disappoints.

One of the reasons his music is not selling is because not many out of his fan base or bloggers like here know it even exists, that is called lack of promo. And lets not forget the illegal downloads that keep popping up on my google alerts, thousands have downloaded The Other Side Of Down, but with new management it looks like things may just be turning around.

  • kmd

Of course it would be great see David’s sales pick up on his album. I hope that it happens. The reasons that the album is not selling have been mentioned by djafan. It is just as important that David have a good management team in place and that they have a plan for him. He finally has that now. I think it is going to make big difference. It is just going to take some time.

  • CindyM

The question didn’t mention sales. The question was, does anyone have any info on what appearing on the Fox NYE show did for them (Cook, Kris, Allsion).

Okay then. My bad. I interpreted the question to want some type of measurable statistic for an answer. If I had known it was just a throwaway question regarding results in the future that can’t be tied to a specific television appearance, I wouldn’t have bothered. Next time I’ll be smarter.

  • bridgette12

Touring and concerts has never been Archie’s problem. His problem is his album and radio choosing not to play his songs. Three singles have been released and none are making any impact on the charts or ringing up in sales. SBL was bland, Elevator was childish dreck and Falling stars has went no where. I know Archie said he wrote a lot of his album and he really should have hired some people who knew what they were doing.

Releasing three singles is somewhat debatable. Jive never sent out an adds date for Elevator OR Falling Stars that I’ve heard of. I guess they can just say that any song off an album is a “single” now and there you go lol.

As for Archie’s songwriting, every song on the album that he had a hand in writing was a co-write with a “professional” songwriter. And every song on the album was approved by Jive, experts that they are. So who knows what’s going on with the low album sales but I’m not blaming it on his songwriting.

  • KathyH

I love David’s album and won’t bother to list my opinions on how it is selling. People believe what they want. I will say, however, that my daughter just wrote a research paper on illegal downloads, and the articles she cited stated that younger bands with younger fan bases are at a distinct disadvantage in terms of sales.

  • djafan

Three singles have been released and none are making any impact on the charts or ringing up in sales.

It makes no sense to me how some music gets played over and over by the same singers repeating the same verse, so I don’t understand why his music won’t be given a chance. I keep reading about payola having to do with it and Jive has a history of not participating and not pushing their artists songs to radio.

SBL was bland, Elevator was childish dreck and Falling stars has went no where.

This is an opinion, if you think Elevator was childish dreck you don’t know what this song is about at all, but that’s fine you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. My issue is statements that are made as fact when people have different tastes.

I know Archie said he wrote a lot of his album and he really should have hired some people who knew what they were doing.

    David said he

    cowrote

, had part in the lyrics and melodies of The Other Side Of Down with some prolific songwriters that have songs charting by other artists. I believe that David’s approach is to have a natural growth and build his knowledge in the music business based on his interviews.

When you do interviews talking about how you got to write several songs on your album and that album is not selling, then some of the blame goes to the guys who wrote the songs. This is Archie’s second album, which I will assume he had a hand in creating, unless he just sat there and sang whatever they put before him. So when a artist music is not selling, whether that artist is Archie, Adam, Daughtry, Allison or whomever, that artist bares part of the responsibility for it success or failure.

  • music78girl

I will say, however, that my daughter just wrote a research paper on illegal downloads, and the articles she cited stated that younger bands with younger fan bases are at a distinct disadvantage in terms of sales.

    Unless your name is Bieber…

  • Kris

    I agree, music78girl.

I love David’s album. I think it shows a tremendous amount of growth for David. I can’t wait to see what he does next with his songwriting.

  • music78girl

So when a artist music is not selling, whether that artist is Archie, Adam, Daughtry, Allison or whomever, that artist bares part of the responsibility for it success or failure.

I guess that depends on your definition of success. Could he (and Jive) have put together a more “commercial” album? Sure. But obviously Archie had an idea of what he wanted on this album and Jive agreed to it. Was it the best thing for him, sales-wise? Apparently not. But maybe it was the best for his career in the long run. It certainly shows a progression from the first album (but obviously everyone has their own opinion on that).

It’s been my observation though that the quality of the writing on a song or album doesn’t have a heck of a lot to do with how many units it moves. Sadly.

  • KathyH

Yes, Bieber’s team has been fantastic and he’s the current ‘it’ boy. I’m impressed so far with David’s new management. I can’t see into the future in terms of payoff, but I’m certainly enjoying this round of appearances, lately.

  • Kris

It’s been my observation though that the quality of the writing on a song or album doesn’t have a heck of a lot to do with how many units it moves. Sadly.

Right. There are many factors that go into why an artist sells or doesn’t sell. Its not cut and dry.

  • kmd

I really like David’s album. I think David will have other albums that will continue to show a progression. With or without JIVE. What more can you ask of someone who is 19 well almost 20 years old? I think David did not want to be Bieber.

  • frogcooke

if anyone is interested LIVE stream of the sacramento tree lighting that david is singing at:

Watching Gov. @Schwarzenegger participate in the 79th annual state Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting – live at http://tweetcast.in/1411

  • Kris

Yay! Thanks, frogcooke. David should be singing two song. Someone said that David rehearsed Pat-A-Pan. Can’t wait to see it. It would be awesome if Joy to the World was the second song but I know it won’t be.

  • bridgette12

I guess that depends on your definition of success

My definition of success, is a album that’s selling and I am pretty sure that’s JIVE definition of a success. No one would expect a American Idol’s second album to not even sell a thousand albums just two months after it’s debut.

  • frogcooke

Uggg i dont know why he doesnt sing Joy To The World. Its the only one he hasnt sung. *shakes fist*
My guess is pat-a-pan and melodies of xmas. or first noel.

  • KathyH

Ooh. I’d love to hear Pat a Pan. And he’s great on so many songs, but I’d vote for JTTW just for you, Frog. :)

  • Kris

I don’t know why he won’t sing it live. It’s my favorite on his album. I just want to marry the ending of that song. I love love love when he sings “His love” and holds it.

  • frogcooke

Yeah jttw is one of my absolute favs on the album. He needs to sing it one of these days.

  • Kris

Seeing Arnold on this feed makes me want to see Twins.

According to FMQB, Crystal Bowersox’s single, “Farmer’s Daughter” will be released to the Triple A radio format on January 10. Releasing Idol music to Triple A? I do believe Crystal is the first.

Wow. So now can we assume that Jive has atleast some idea on how to promote Crystal’s music and lay to rest those rumors that they don’t really care about the artists they sign on (which is a weird business model)? AAA format is perfect for Crystal, even seeing the names on that on those artists she would be played alongside gives me goosebumps – Robert Plant, Ray laMontagne, Michael Franti, Jack Johnson etc. V cool indeed.

Yeah, he was really on with MOC tonight. He’s ended it a bit weird lately but I think he got it all worked out this time and it was really goood. Im waiting for a good vid with good audio to pop up. Since the stream was a little weird.

Can’ t wait to see and hear. Cool that David meets so many people and sees so many places. He’s the kind of guy who’ll appreciate these experiences to the fullest.

  • music78girl

Absolutely, that is commercial success. If Jive wants commercial success then they need to put up the money for solid national promo. You don’t get something from nothing. I don’t see Jive doing much of anything for any of their current artists and they are all suffering for it. But maybe that’s in the wheelhouse of management. Whatever. Promo sells albums. And Archie was sorely lacking that for this album. Maybe with the new management in place we’ll see a turnaround in that area. Keeping my fingers crossed because it’s a crime that more people haven’t heard his new material. I think it’s pretty great.

  • djafan

music78girl, D.I.T.T.O to everything you said.

If it wasn’t for his Christmas album, he wouldn’t have any sales. Archie is great at singing other people’s music, but his own music is pretty bland and the amount of sales so far shows it.

According to FMQB, Crystal Bowersox’s single, “Farmer’s Daughter” will be released to the Triple A radio format on January 10. Releasing Idol music to Triple A? I do believe Crystal is the first.

This marketing strategy is brilliant. AAA is the PERFECT format for her style of music, and her fan base. Plus, they do NOT play Christmas music, and they give air time to album tracks other than singles.

Waiting until January 10th to release this single is also smart marketing strategy, introducing it after all the holiday crap is over, the reviews have all come in, and allowing 4 weeks for the CD to seep into the public consciousness via word of mouth, music video, TV appearances and live performances.

Again, she’s not a Pop 40 style performer, never has been and never will be, so it would be misguided for anyone to use the previous statistics or strategies of Idols past for comparison purposes. This is effectively a stand-alone project. Jive understands that Crystal is different, and they are wise to not promote her using the typical Idol formula.
