AMERICAN IDOL – DIOGUARDI FINDS FAMILY LINK WITH PHILBIN

New AMERICAN IDOL judge KARA DioGUARDI has found an unusual family link – daytime U.S. TV personality REGIS PHILBIN is her cousin.

The pair’s ancestors both hailed from the small town of Greci, Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries, DioGuardi discovered.

But Philbin failed to recognise the link until the Idol judge appeared on his U.S. chat show Live with Regis + Kelly on Monday (19Jan09), when producers handed him a detailed family tree showing the two were in fact distant relatives.
And songwriter DioGuardi was quick to seal their bond, extending an invitation to Philbin to her upcoming wedding to boyfriend Mike MCCuddy, who proposed to the star earlier this month (Jan09).

Sanjaya to promote new book on Long Island

Hair today, gone tomorrow? That’s not the case for Sanjaya Malakar, the Season 6 “American Idol” finalist as well known for the weekly restyling of his tresses (ponyhawk, anyone?) as his musical performances. He was the darling of the preteen set, culminating in the memorable hysterics of “crying girl” Ashley Ferl. And, along with Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson, he is among a handful of former “Idol” contestants who are as well-known as the people who actually won the competition.

Kelly Clarkson Hooked On World’s Hottest Drug of Choice

As I wait with fingers akimbo on my iPod for Kelly Clarkson’s new album to drop, I am finding myself with a dearth of pop culture activities to fill my free time. OK, that’s totally untrue but I needed an intro for this story.

Any whosit, Kelly is not having the same problem since she has become addicted to Hollywood’s latest drug of choice — “Twilight!” Yes, only four months after the rest of the world, Kelly is finally making her way through all four novels that chronicle Bella and Edward’s love.

Presidential Idol: The dream becomes reality

Back in March, I wrote what became the first in a series of articles comparing the 2008 political season with ‘American Idol.’ As we moved through the primaries and the general campaign, I found myself intrigued by the charismatic appeal of Barack Obama and the “fandom” that he built, and continued to make the comparisons.

Unlike ‘Idol, ‘ however, Obama’s winning is not the end of the story – far from it. His inauguration takes reality TV to an entirely new level! And tonight, on the eve of this historic event, I am moved to share my own feelings about what is about to occur. Please, allow me to indulge, and I promise to get back to covering ‘Idol’ Tuesday night!

New judge signs on as ‘Idol’ tries to regain ratings

Here we go again.

Another long, twice-a-week pilgrimage to the May coronation of a new singing idol.

TV’s reigning heavyweight champ, American Idol, launched its eighth season last week, determined to reinvigorate the franchise.

Though still the top show by a wide margin, Idol saw its audience decline week by week last season right up until the climactic showdown between David Cook and David Archuleta, which drew an encouraging 31.7 million viewers, the third most-watched finale in the Fox singing contest’s history.

The Idol producers are clearly looking to halt the regular-season slide.
