That kind of stinks they are allowed to sell used CDs so soon after an artist’s release. I wonder how many people burn the CD and then sell it used?

I used to buy and sell cds on Amazon before I switched to itunes downloads, and honestly, it’s such a small number of cds for sale, it can’t hurt overall sales. In fact I just looked at Amazon and there are 40 cds (new and used) of Kris’s cd for sale right now. That’s like no effect at all on 80,000 sales.

Now illegal downloading is another story, apparently. That could hurt a lot I would think.

In fact, I’ll guarantee you, if he [David Cook] has anything to say about it, the next album and singles will sound nothing like Come Back to Me, that’s for sure.

I read U.S. iTunes comments for Adam’s FYE and alot of people don’t even judge the album but Adam’s performance of FYE on AMA’s. Homophobic haters comments most of them. It’s sad that most people in the US are that way. Afraid of sex and unable to be openminded.

Just my opinion & observation & I am only quoting the above to make an observation about that point which seems to be a common theme all over the internet when discussing Adam Lambert. I think if Adam had just sang the song & not contributed to what I viewed as a disgusting sexually explicit performance, he wouldn’t have gotten the flack he got, & given ammunition to “homophobics” and or “haters.” I am not homophobic, I just don’t like his style whatsoever & there are many artists that fall into my “don’t like” category. It’s not about “fear of sex” nor is it being “homophobic” it’s common decency & knowing when to curb your tendendies. There is quite a difference between a “sexy” movie & a porn flick.

I wouldn’t assume that at all. In fact, I’ll guarantee you, if he has anything to say about it, the next album and singles will sound nothing like Come Back to Me, that’s for sure. Don’t know about Light On, but I’d bet not. These were Idol influenced singles. Neither written by him and chosen not to scare off what AI stereotypically believed to be Cook’s Idol fanbase. In concert, he is definitely playing the album rougher, taking off all the over production polish, and there was even a post on DCO today commenting on the fact that the next album will involve Cook, his band, RCA and his A&R team. Not Idol.

As I said, Cook’s current album, especially once ypu get past the first 4 songs, doesn’t sound anything like Nickleback and fits into the indie rock niche far more once you strip away the AI gloss.

But there’s absolutely no reason why you’d want to do that if you don’t like the music, so ITA on that score.

My original comment, in which I wondered if Nickelback was popular in Europe, wasn’t meant to be an insult to Cook at all–funny that you took it that way. I don’t really respect mainstream or indie rock more than the other, but the sound he would be selling is the mainstream sound, so it makes sense to evaluate his sales potential on that.

But then they say, Well, but when I do it I *have* bought the album at full price, I’m then allowing somebody on a limited budget to get the album too, and I’m going to use the cash to buy more *music,* so it’s all good …

And while I still think that’s wrong, I do see a bit of something in that argument!

It is newsworthy because people have been posting that CD’s aren’t selling well this year because of the economy, and they are on a tight budget.

And ABC did not sign on for everything that happened I think that is the bottom line.

Exactly. ABC is in business, and they’re not in the business of promoting Adam’s Lambert’s tastes in entertainment. They have sponsors. I’m sure their morning show sponsors are even more careful about what kind of programming they’re sponsoring than their evening show sponsors. Think about it. Pampers, Snuggies, Dove, whatever. It’s not rocket science.

And how does giving the “fuck you” finger to the audience come under gay rights? If anyone else did it it would be considered very offensive. But we’re supposed to give Adam a pass because homophbia is afoot? I just can’t agree with that argument.

Nothing new. It happens to all artists/writers/computer program producers, etc. Adam, Allison and yes, even SuBo will have used items available sooner or later, if they don’t already.

Like I said in my earlier post, Adam’s CD, FYE, is also for sale used on Amazon. Allison’s CD goes on sale December 1st. Anyone and everyone who puts out a CD is subject to having it sold used on Amazon or many other sites.

Like someone above posted, it’s a question of a few dollars difference. My budget is tight but it’s never that tight. I believe in supporting the artists I like by buying new albums. If I can’t afford it this week, I’ll save a few bucks and wait until next week.

Picture Keith Urban or Chris Daughtry doing what Adam did. It’s hard to even picture because: A. It’s actually more disturbing in some ways, and B. It would never happen. Straight men do not get away with those kinds of sexually aggressive moves towards females unless they are acting or doing some kind of dance improv.

I cannot picture them doing this because that’s not the type of performer they are. Actually, I believe Adam WAS acting AND doing a kind of dance improv ‘“ I believe he has actually stated (see Fab interview) that he does not do this in real life. It was a PERFORMANCE based on a song that had an S&M theme ‘“ he was acting out the song. Raunchy yes, but that’s what they signed on for.

No, I don’t think this has anything to do with hate. You can find used cds by everybody on Ebay, and a lot of them do turn up soon after the albums come out. ….

(I’m sure there are other reasons, too — but I kind of doubt that hate has much to do with it, because if there’s hate involved you probably wouldn’t have bought the cd in the first place, would you?)

I’ve seen used items offered on Amazon all the time, even when the book/album/video game just game out!

People return stuff for a variety of reasons. I can think of a few right off the bat.

1)You order something to give as a gift and discover someone else is giving the same gift. So you ship it back.

2) You receive it, but discover you can get bonus tracks at other outlets, so you return it and buy it elsewhere.

3) You burn a copy (or read the book) and then return it.

Nothing new. It happens to all artists/writers/computer program producers, etc. Adam, Allison and yes, even SuBo will have used items available sooner or later, if they don’t already. Kris’s album has been out longer then the other three’s so he may be the first to have a used item.

ETA-Used items are never a significant number so I don’t think it makes that much of a difference in an artist’s album numbers. I have bought used items off of Amazon, and I will say, when things are tough, it’s nice to have that option. Think of it this way, some people my not buy Kris or Adam’s CD because it isn’t in their Christmas budget. But then they see it on sell, and they get it.

Also, doesn’t the original sale still count? So it doesn’t matter if it ws resold and the used sell doesn’t count?

I’m sure there are as many reasons as there are CDs. Like, someone buys it and then comes home and finds out their spouse already bought it. Or they got it for a gift, and they had already preordered it.
And aren’t there a lot of people who manage to obtain stuff as cheap as possible and then regularly re-sell it used on Amazon and Ebay?

Anyhow, I agree that it stinks that they’re allowed to sell them so soon after the release.

Too bad there is no way to stop it. I am a teacher and when I try to tell kids it’s wrong and how everyone associated with the CD, not just the singer or band, is trying to make a living they just look at me like I’m for another planet. *sigh*

As for different genres of music I couldn’t care less, I just like what I like. But if I have to think about it I guess the Rolling Stones are the only “real” rock band I like. Those who dismiss Adam as not being rock have no effect on my ear, I like his CD and I really don’t care what genre it is.
